Abstract
"AUMENTO DE LARGURA DE FAIXA COMPATìVEL COM SISTEMA DE TELEVISãO A CABO QUE USA CANAIS DIGITAIS EMBUTIDOS". A presente invenção refere-se a várias concretizações da invenção que apresentam um aparelho, processos e sistemas para efetuarem um aumento na largura de faixa efetiva de uma instalação de distribuição de televisão a cabo em uma maneira compatível com os sistemas de televisão a cabo mais comuns. Com o uso dos processos e sistemas para simultaneamente transmitir um sinal de televisão analógico padrão e um sinal de dados digitais em uma maneira que minimize a interferência mútua, uma ou mais portadoras de dados podem ser embutidas dentro de um ou mais canais de televisão analógicos. Estes sinais combinados são então transmitidos transparentemente sobre a instalação de distribuição de televisão a cabo existente para uma localização no assinante ou próxima deste. Várias concretizações empregam então um dispositivo que decodifica um ou mais dos canais embutidos; seja na casa do assinante, seja em um nó vizinho que serve a uma pluralidade de casas. Certas concretizações suportam também a inclusão de um meio de armazenamento na casa ou nó vizinho, de modo que a programação de transmissão possa ser temporariamente armazenada, permitindo assim que o operador do sistema a cabo ofereça uma série de programação que o assinante pode 'interromper ou resumir' em grande parte na maneira em que os Gravadores de Vídeo Pessoais trabalham. Em todas as concretizações, os dados extraídos são então remodulados em um ou mais canais privados<39><39> (tipicamente 64 ou 256 QAM) e depois convertidos ativamente em freq³ências não-usadas que podem estar localizadas bem acima da freq³ência mais alta usada pelo operador de cabo para transmitir a programação para a casa, enquanto ainda é compatível com modems de cabo ou caixas de decodificação de cabo digital comerciais. As freq³ências usadas para os canais privados locais podem ser reutilizadas para outras casas e vizinhanças em uma maneira conhecida na técnica como 'multiplexação por divisão de espaço'. Desta maneira, uma capacidade de canal nova o suficiente é criada no sistema a cabo para suportar uma ampla variedade de programação nova incluindo serviços disponíveis e do tipo 'gravador de vídeo pessoal'.
