Apparatus for the partial oxidation with oxygen of organic compounds in the gas phase, in particular of ethylene to ethylene oxide, characterized in that it comprises a reactor consisting of a bundle of tubes and a shell divided by two baffles on the shell into three zones, as the tubes are connected at the ends to plates to which are connected the bottoms of the reactor and a cooling circuit of the intermediate reaction zone and one or more circuits for heating one of the end zones at the expense of the heat extracted by cooling the other zone, such as the intermediate tube zone is filled with catalyst while the tubular heating, in some cases cooling zone is filled with inert materials.
