1449092 Temperature control in catalytic apparatus SNAMPROGETTI SpA 30 April 1974 [30 April 1973] 05222/76 Divided out of 1449091 Heading B1F An apparatus, suitable for carrying out the partial oxidation of an organic compound, with oxygen, in the vapour phase comprises a reactor having a shell in which there is located a bundle of tubes, divided by one or more baffles into two or more zones, the bundle of tubes having its end terminating in plates to which the shell end edges are joined, there being one or more circuits for heating a zone at one end region of the reactor at the expense of heat withdrawn by cooling a zone at the other end region of the reactor and a cooling circuit for an intermediate zone, or, where there are two zones only, the zone at the other end of the reactor from the heating zone, the regions of the tubes in the intermediate zone, or the end zone, where there are two zones only, being filled with catalyst, the regions of the tubes in the heating zone(s) being filled with inert materials and the regions of the tubes in the cooling zone(s), where there are more than two zones, being optionally filled with inert material.
