<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Description attached to a request for
BELGIAN PATENT filed by the company called: PONTEGGI DALMINE S.p.A. having for object: Right angle coupling, with two bolts, for tubular constructions Qualification proposed: PATENT OF INVENTION
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This patent relates to a right angle, two bolt coupling for tubular constructions in general. More particularly, the present patent relates to right angle couplings formed in cold pressed sheet metal, according to Italian patent NO 1.002. 461 of the applicant, to allow operation with two bolts.
Couplings for connecting tubular elements, at right angles or at different angles, which are now known, are generally formed of three elements, the central element (body) of which, on two opposite faces, is such that it comes into contact with the tubes to be connected together, and of which two outer elements (caps) are shaped on their inner surface to receive and block each tube on the central element or body. Each cap is connected to the body by two bolts, the tightening of which also determines the tightening of the coupling on the tubes to be connected, which is why the coupling generally requires four bolts.
Couplings of the type with two bolts are also known, in which each cap is attached to the body so as to allow an opening around two articulation pins, locks or similar systems being provided with a single bolt to make the connection of each hat to the body in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
closed position of the coupling and locking of the coupling on the tubes to be connected together.
In the right-angle coupling for tubular constructions, in cold-stamped sheet metal, improved according to the invention, the connection of each cap with the body is formed by articulated engagement of a head of suitable shape, on the cap, in a seat suitably provided on the body, this head being suitable for allowing the rotation of the cap relative to the body, of approximately 900, the placing of each cap in cooperation with the body, in the closed position and the tightening of the coupling on the tubes to be connected together being produced by a single bolt.
According to the invention to which the present patent application relates, the external element or cap of the coupling is formed of a rectangular sheet metal plate, cold formed so as to come into contact with a cylindrical tube with connect, on at least a quarter of its circumference, with lateral arms shaped respectively, on one side with a hammer head adapted to be introduced in an articulated manner in corresponding seats of the body to allow the rotation of the hat of about 900 relative to the body, and on the other hand with an open slot for the introduction of the barrel of the locking bolt, with wings bent at right angles to ensure rigidity during tightening, parts of the edges of these wings being concave for receive the periphery of the tube.
The central element or body of the right-angle coupling with two bolts for tubular constructions,
EMI3.1
according to the invention, is in turn constituted by a rectangular sheet shaped cold to have near its vertices and on each of its faces both a pair of arch projections to receive the tubes, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a pair of cavities with holes in their bases, of suitable shape, to allow the introduction of the hammer head of each cap and a play in rotation of the heads of the bolts (and caps) which are in the cavities.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the external element or cap has two lateral arms oriented relative to the central plate with an inclination such that it determines, in combination with the concave edges of the wings at right angles, in the position closing the coupling, bringing the cylindrical tube into contact over at least half of its circumference, the contact being distributed over the length of the central plate and of the winged arm; and in the open position of the coupling, that it determines the support guided by the horizontal tube.
The connection of each cap with the body is substantially without transverse play of the cap relative to the body in the open position of the coupling.
In the right angle coupling with two bolts, according to the present invention, it is also possible to fix each cap stably to the body, as provided for by safety standards, by simple connections consisting in forming the wings of the head. hammer at right angles with subsequent flattening thereof after assembly or even during the operation of the matting or cold hammering operation so as to form protrusions on the edge of the seat, with holes for the insertion of the hat in the body.
The right-angle coupling with two bolts, made of cold-pressed sheet metal, which constitutes the object of the present invention, is easily and quickly manufactured and does not require any special tools; it has the necessary mechanical resistance to fatigue, and has
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
appreciable advantages during use for the assembly and disassembly of tubular material.
In particular, the special shape of the caps and their connection to the body leads to an open arrangement of the coupling, which allows the establishment and support of horizontal tubular elements on couplings already fixed to vertical constructions, which facilitates greatly the installation operations.
Other characteristics and advantages of the right-angle coupling with two bolts, made of cold-pressed sheet metal according to the invention, will appear on reading the description which follows, with reference to a preferred embodiment, represented by way of nonlimiting example in the figures of the drawings attached to this specification.
In these drawings: - Fig. 1 shows the assembled coupling, in perspective.
- Fig. 2 shows a front view of the closed coupling on a vertical construction.
- Fig. 3 shows the coupling of FIG. 1 in side view.
- Fig. 4 shows the coupling of FIG. 1 in side view with the hat open.
- Fig. 5 shows the coupling of FIG. 2 in section along the line V-V.
- Fig. 6 to 9 show a detail of the hat.
- Fig. 10 shows the draft hat.
- Fig. 11 shows the hat seen from the front.
- Fig. 12 shows the hat in plan.
- Fig. 13 shows the hat of FIG. 5 in side view in direction X.
- Fig. 14 shows the body seen from the front.
- Fig. 15 shows the body in plan.
Referring to these figures, and in particular to FIGS. 1 to 5, we see that the coupling indicated so
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
general by the reference index 1 is of the type with two bolts, and that it is constituted by a body 2 and by caps 3. Each cap 3 is linked to the body 2 by engagement with articulation, in a seat 4 formed in the body 2, of a hammer head 5 formed on each cap 3 and suitable for allowing the rotation of each cap 3, relative to the body 2, of approximately 900 as shown in FIG. 3 (coupling closed) and in Fig. 4 (open coupling). The placing of each cap in cooperation with the body and the tightening of the coupling on the tubes 6 to be connected together are produced by two bolts 7.
Each cap 3 is constituted (see in particular FIGS. 6 to 13) by a rectangular sheet metal plate 8, cold formed and comprising: a central part 9 which comes into contact with the cylindrical tube 6 over approximately a quarter of its circumference; and two lateral arms 10 and 11.
The arm 10 has a hammer-shaped head 12 with bent wings, while the arm 11 has an open slot 13 for the introduction of the bolt 7, with wings bent at right angles and edges 15 thereof. are concave, with the same radius of curvature as the central part 9.
On the outer surface of the central part 9 are formed webs 16 for reinforcement and stiffening, while on the arm 14 are formed sections 17 at the edge of the open slot 13, in order to prevent the sliding of the bolt 6 compared to hat 2.
The central element or body 2 of the right-angle coupling with two bolts is made (see in particular Figs. 14 and 15) of a quadrangular plate 18, made of cut sheet metal and cold formed so as to present
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
near its peaks and on each of its faces, both a pair of arched projections 19 to ensure the seating of the tubes 6, and a pair of cavities 20 whose bases are provided with holes, each of the cavities of the pair having respectively a hole 21 shaped so as to allow the introduction of the hammer head 12 of the caps 3 and having a hole 22 of a shape suitable for allowing the introduction of bolts 7.
As appears in particular from Figs. 3 to 5, each hat has its two lateral arms 10 and 11 oriented relative to the central plate 9 and inclined so as to determine in combination with the concave edges 15 of the wings at right angles 14, in the closed position of the coupling, bringing the cylindrical tube 6 into contact over at least half of its circumference, this cooperation contact being distributed along the central plate 9 and of the arm 11.
As can be seen in particular from FIG. 4, in the open position of the coupling, the cap 3 provides a guided support for the horizontal tube 6, resting against the central plate 9 and in laterally contact with the concave edges 15 of the wings 14 of the arm 11. The cap 2 , in this open position, is also sufficiently rigid due to the absence of transverse play in the connection with the body by the hammer head 12 in the holes 21 of the body.
To stably attach each cap 3 to the body 2, the wings 12 ′ of the hammer head 12 are flattened after the introduction of the head 12 into the holes 21 of the body 2.
As seen from Figs. 6 to 9, the hammer head 12 has two wings 12 'bent at right angles (Fig. 6) and it is introduced into the hole 21 of the body 2 by rotation of the cap 3 (Fig. 7) to allow the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
passage of the wings 12 '.
Then, the cap 3 is put in place and the two wings 12 ′ are flattened (FIG. 8) so as to give the shape shown in section in FIG. 9 which stably fixes the cap 2 on the body 3.
