<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

Heat recovery device on ducts
combustion fumes.
The present invention aims to provide a device for recovering the heat of combustion smoke, in particular that of a domestic or other fireplace.
It is known that, during combustion, part of the heat of combustion is transmitted by radiation, by conduction and by convection. Another part of the heat released in the combustion is lost in the fumes which are evacuated by a conduit ending in a chimney. The fumes can sometimes reach fairly high temperatures and, generally, the calories conveyed by the hot fumes are evacuated to the outside and are therefore lost for heating proper.
The device of the invention aims in particular to reduce the loss of calories conveyed by hot smoke.
According to the invention, the heat recovery device comprises a main duct element, disposed in the direction of circulation of the fumes, to which is fixed at least one other duct element called lateral branch, closed at one end, so as to form a node where the different duct elements communicate with each other, this branch allowing a diversion of smoke and being divided, along the length, in two by a separation arranged substantially perpendicular to the plane formed by the lateral branch and by the main duct, leaving a traffic opening at the end of the junction.
The device therefore aims to recover calories from the combustion fumes by diverting them into at least one lateral branch.
The branches will be divided in two to allow a return and return of the diverted smoke in the same conduit.
The device of the invention can comprise a single lateral branching so as to form a T.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the device comprises two lateral branches so as to globally affect the shape of a cross or similar shape. In this case, it will be ensured that half of the smoke flow is deflected in each branch.
According to the invention, the lateral branching or branches may include a curvature making it possible to benefit from a diversion distance, therefore from a larger exchange surface for a small footprint.
The device of the invention comprises at least one circulation opening in the separation of the lateral branch at the closed end thereof. It is obvious to provide this opening to allow the circulation of fumes in the lateral branch which forms a back and forth thanks to the separation. Without this opening, the fumes would not circulate in the branch and the heat would be practically transmitted only by convection or conduction in the smoke stored in the branch. We can however imagine a series of small openings in the separation
along its entire length.
In order to force the fumes to pass into the lateral branches, it is necessary to create a pressure drop in the main duct at the location of the node. For this, the main duct can be closed, at the location of the node, by providing
there are however deflectors guiding the fumes towards the branch lines and reducing the pressure losses created by a sudden change of direction.
One can also work a constriction in the main conduit at the location of the node, respecting the same conditions as above. In this case, part of the smoke will continue its way in the main duct. This results in facilities during the dimensioning of the lateral branches.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the main duct is provided, at the location of the node, with a key making it possible to adjust the opening and therefore the flow of smoke to pass through the lateral branches. In the event of a weak draft, when starting the fire, in order to be
assured of an adequate draft, the key is arranged so as to allow the direct evacuation of the fumes and it is generally only after a certain period of operation that the heating rate is reduced by reducing the draft with said key, which then causes the passage of smoke in the side branches.
Similarly ,. you can also *, open it

branching, with an adjustment key
In this case, it is simpler, for assembly reasons, to mount deflectors at the location of the node, since it is possible not to mount a key at this location.
According to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the diversion branches can be provided with internal and / or external fins making it possible to increase the exchange surface with the atmosphere.
In addition, according to the invention, the device may include a jacket enveloping the lateral branches.
by allowing fluid circulation between the jacket and said branches. This fluid can advantageously be air.
The device of the present invention will be better understood by means of the appended figures, where identical references represent identical or analogous elements. The
a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention shown in the figures does not, however, have any limiting character of the invention.
Figure 1 shows a particularly preferred device where the device is in the shape of a cross and where the key is in the open position, Figure 2 shows this particularly preferred device where the key is in the closed position.
In the case of FIG. 1 (key 3 in the "open" position), the combustion fumes represented by the arrows, pass through the device without passing into the lateral branches. Mark 1 locates the position of the hearth and mark 6 indicates the evacuation in the chimney.
In the case of FIG. 2 (key 3 in the "closed" position), the hot fumes 2 coming from the hearth 1 are forced to pass into the branches 4 of the cross-shaped device.
The branches 4 being divided into two conduits by a separation 5 such a branch forms a return flow for the smoke flow by means of a circulation opening 5 '. Then, the two smoke streams join the exhaust.
Depending on the position of the key 3, it is possible to adjust the flow rates which pass through the node of the cross and that which passes through the lateral branches.
The air circulating between the jacket 8 and the branch lines
4 heats up on contact with the fins 7 and with the
wall of branches 4 ..
At the inlet of the jacket 8, a fan 9 can be provided allowing forced air circulation. The
outlet of the jacket 8 can be provided with a grid or a deflector 10 for directing the air in the room to be heated or even with a dust retention system.
Air circulation can also be done by convection? but then, the device must be able to evacuate the hot air to the top. This can be achieved by tilting the device or fixing the arms
oblique diversion on the main duct.
We also note that care will be taken to choose forms that minimize the pressure drop of the smoke and / or the air to be heated.
The device of the present invention therefore shows
that can be achieved with relatively simple means a device for recovering the heat conveyed by
combustion fumes and thus reduce the heat losses of a fireplace.
Of course, many modifications are possible while remaining within the scope of the invention. This is how we can provide a different orientation of the shirt
that of the flue, while adapting of course
to the general direction of the flue.
The plate which divides the branch can also be of a particular design, it can be for example in form
<EMI ID = 2.1>
lining the inside wall of the shirt. If this plate is hollow, it may be possible to provide a circu-
<EMI ID = 3.1>
the inside of the shirt to ensure better heat recovery.
The invention covers these different variants as well as other variants and modifications accessible to those skilled in the art.
