<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>

Device for picking up objects
On the ground.
Device for picking up objects from the ground.
The present invention relates to a device for picking up objects littering the ground, for example leaves littering a lawn or a path of a
garden.
Collecting leaves on a lawn or gravel path, for example, is difficult with known devices. These essentially comprise a cylindrical brush which rotates around its axis when the machine is walked on the ground, the brush driving the sheets by adhesion, these sheets then being collected in a collection bin. The effectiveness of these machines leaves something to be desired when the ground is wet or when the ground is covered with gravel in particular. In the first case, the wet leaves sink into the lawn and remain in large numbers on the ground, because they are not entrained by the brush. Also in the second case, a large number of leaves generally remain on the ground because they remain trapped by the gravel and, in addition, gravel is washed away and lost.
The problem which the invention aims to solve is to produce a machine which collects leaves or other objects efficiently, even when the ground is wet
or on a surface covered with gravel.
This problem is solved according to the invention by a device in which the surface of the roller is
furnished with a plurality of protruding radial elements
and in which the roller cooperates with at least one comb disposed with its teeth facing the surface of said roller, the outer edge of the row of teeth-extending parallel to the generatrix of the
surface of said roller and pressing against said surface. In this way, when the roller turns around its axis, the projecting radial elements pass transversely between the teeth of the comb.
The advantage of the device according to the invention is that it drives the sheets or other objects which come
in contact with any of the protruding radial elements which line the surface of the roller which
whatever the nature or condition of the soil. Efficiency
of this device is remarkable in that the roller drives any object which can be pierced by one of said projecting elements, any object thus driven being detached by the comb to be collected.
An additional advantage of the device according to the invention is that, the spacing between the projecting elements of the surface of the roller being judiciously chosen,
the roller can also entrain any elongated object which comes to be trapped between said projecting elements of the roller.
The invention is set out in more detail in what
follows with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating two examples of embodiment.
The reference numeral 1 designates the chassis of the machine, this chassis forming a tray open on the top. The frame 1 is provided with one or more rollers 2 and a handle 3. In the container which forms the frame 1
there is a cylindrical roller 4 capable of turning about a horizontal axis A. The roller 4 is mounted
so as to emerge under the base 10 of the chassis 1 through an opening in this base. The surface of the roller 4 is lined with a set of protruding radial elements 40. These elements can be made of any material and have any geometric shape, for example forming conical points. These elements can be formed as an integral part of the surface of the roller or attached to it.
At least one comb 5 cooperates with the surface of the roller 4: FIGS. 1 and 2 show an example
of embodiment with a comb, FIG. 3 shows an embodiment of two combs. Each comb 5 is arranged with its teeth 50 turned towards the surface of the roller 4. The outer edge 51 of the row of teeth 50 s 'extends parallel to the generatrix of the surface of the roller 4 and bears against this surface. In this way, when the machine is moved on = ci and when the roller rotates about its axis A, the projecting elements 40 of the roller pass one after the other transversely between the teeth 50 of the comb. The diameter of the elements 40 is advantageously chosen slightly less than the width of the spacing between the teeth 50 of the comb so
effectively detaching any object stuck on one or more projecting elements 40 or trapped between several of these elements.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
begins to rotate and the elements 40 bite and / or pierce the objects they meet, carrying these objects with them. The references F in FIG. 2 designate three successive positions of a sheet driven by the roller 4. When the elements 40 of the roller 4 reach the comb 5, they pass transversely between the teeth of the latter and the sheets F driven by these elements are detached by the comb 5 and are collected in the tray 1. The rim 60 defines the edge of the collection compartment 6 below the comb 5. Elongated objects trapped between the elements 40 of the roller are also driven by the roller and detached by the comb 5.
In FIG. 3 which illustrates an embodiment comprising two combs 5, the tray that forms the frame 1 is fitted with two sheets collection compartments
6. Advantageously, the or each compartment 6 can be lined with a bag (not shown) intended to facilitate the evacuation of the collected leaves.
It is understood that the elements 40 lining the surface of the roller 4 can be either projecting elements clearly isolated from each other, or
<EMI ID = 2.1>
It is however advantageous not to tighten the elements 40 too much against each other because otherwise elongated objects such as twigs, for example, could no longer come to be trapped between said elements and it is also necessary to prevent the surface of the roller a surface that works only by friction.
It goes without saying that the embodiments illustrated in the appended drawings are only in no way limiting examples serving to illustrate the principles of the arrangement according to the invention.
