We know under the name of stage centrifuges, installations which consist of several centrifuge drums mounted to slide axially one inside the other. The material to be treated is removed at the front by the axial displacement of the centrifugal drums, the diameters of which are increasing in stages. Such centrifuges rotate around a horizontal axis of rotation. As the material moves from a lower diameter stage to a larger diameter stage, it is dislocated to some extent and is more easily discharged.
Under the name of propellant centrifuges, are also known rotary machines with horizontal axis which comprise a propellant plate intended to evacuate the material.
In the first step machines described, the provision of discharge means for each individual drum makes their construction very complicated and furthermore has the consequence that these machines easily have a relatively irregular rotation. The second machines with simple direct propulsion have the drawback that the removal of the highly agglomerated material by centrifugation is more difficult.
According to the invention, the advantages specific to each of the construction methods are combined at the same time as their drawbacks are avoided. In addition, special means ensure a permanent dislocation of the material, so that it does not clump excessively.
The machine of the invention is characterized in that the trommel, which in itself constitutes a single construction unit is provided with several stages with increasing diameters towards the outside and that, in addition to a platform

ges, a material propulsion ring corresponding to the width of the stage, mechanically coupled with the propellant plate, the latter being connected to the bottom of the centrifuge to the various propulsion rings by dislocation bodies in the form of slats.
The stepped trommel is thus guaranteed against deformation just as well as a simple cylindrical trommel. It is not necessary to provide a special propulsion drive member for each particular stage. Despite this, the material is not only pushed forward just as in centrifuges propelled by the constant section thruster, but it also arrives, during its forward propulsion, in the next stage with greater section, thanks to to which it is dislocated.
In addition, in the part of the largest stage which has an opening larger than the diameter of the thruster plate, the material is pushed forward by the corresponding thruster ring, with as much safety as the mass which is in the bottom of the narrowest trommel.
As, on the other hand, the propellant plate is joined, in the bottom of the centrifuge, to the various rings by bodies in the form of lamellae, it is ensured that the material will be permanently dislocated, by its propulsion in two directions, namely, on the one hand and continuously, by the bodies split into strips and, on the other hand, by the stages of increasing diameters of the trommel. The dislocation bodies themselves can furthermore have a stepped shape.
When the material passes through the more open stage, the thickness of the layer applied by centrifugation is reduced, so that
washing liquid can pass through it more easily.
