Abstract
The Cr-contg. slag is pref. formed in an electric furnace from ores of Cr and lime in the pref. proportions 3 wt.pts. Cr2O3 to 4 pts. CaO. After pouring the steel the slag remaining in the mixer-reactor, pref. with a little liquid metal is treated as rapidly as possible by adding ferrosilicon of normal quality i.e. which may contain C, to obtain a Fe-Si-Cr alloy into which passes almost all the Cr contained in the slag resulting from stage (1). Process is cheap and efficient.
