Abstract

Title process is where a lap taken from a carding cylinder is divided into tapes pref. 160-200 mm wide which are condensed into slivers. The slivers are then pref. drafted with a 8-10 : 1 ratio and fed directly to associated open end spinning devices which spin them into yarn. The lap may be taken from the carding cylinder by one or more dofting cylinders which have axially spaced bands of toothed card clotting whereby each band of clotting removes a portion of the lap as a tape. alternately the tapes may be removed from the carding cylinder by a transversely oscillating row of suction nozzles. Carded fibres can be spun directly in a continuous process, thereby eliminating inter. handling and providing a more economic process.
