Abstract
Na dichloroisocyanurate dihydrate is continuously produced by (1) chlorinating cyanuric acid in a first aq. medium at pH 1.5-3.5 and at 5-45 degrees C in the presence of Na hypochlorite and/or NaOH as alkaline agent in a ratio cyanuric acid: alkaline agent of 1.90-2.1-1; (2) sepg the solid dichloroisocyanuric acid from the first aq. medium; (3) neutralising the solid dichloroisocyanuric acid with NaOH in a second aq. medium at pH 6-7 and at 5-65 degrees C to give solid particles of (I); (4) sepg. the (I) from the second aq. medium; (5) recycling the second aq. medium to the process and (6) drying the (I) at 15-50 degrees C so that >=95% of the non-bonded water is removed to give a free-flowing, finely divided (I) contg practically no NaCl as impurity. Process gives product with low impurity level, with high thermal stability.
