Abstract

The rate of coke feed is controlled as a function of the rate at which coke dust passes off from the top of the furnace, while alternatively or additionally the rate of ore feed is controlled as a function of the ore loss rate as dust. The coke feed rate may additionally be controlled according to the top gas conditions which are possibly calculated from the furnace charge, the blast rate, its moisture content and any additional fuel which may be added to it. This cald. value may be compared with the actual value to derive a correction factor which is applied to the coke feed. The coke and ore feeds may additionally vary in accordance with their moisture contents.
