Abstract

A molten thermoplastic adhesive is applied in an array of discrete areas, pref. by embossed applicator rolls, pref. to each face of a textile web. A facing web is then applied to each face of the textile web and the assembly pref. pressed together between applicator rolls. The adhesive is then allowed to cool, to harden it and secure the facing webs to the textile webt. The webs may be knitted, woven, non-woven or needled fabrics. The process can be carried out at web speeds of 30m/min and the use of a thermoplastic adhesive eliminates the process of heat curing the adhesive after assembly of the webs.
