1306509 Flocked articles DR PLATE GmbH 10 Feb 1970 [11 Feb 1969] 6280/70 Addition to 1146918 Heading B2E Flocked articles are produced by providing a substrate with a dry surface of adhesive based on thermoplastic plastics, softening or making tacky the surface of the adhesive by means of a plasticizer or solvent, followed by flocking, after which the substrate thus flocked is heated to at least the melting point of the plastics material but below the melting point of the flocks, and then subsequently leaving the flocked substrate to cool, the layer of adhesive being applied either in discontinuous form or is provided with discontinuities during or after application. The entire substrate may be produced from the thermoplastic material and then provided with discontinuities, e.g. by cutting. Alternatively, thermoplastic plastics are laminated on to the substrate, e.g. netting of adhesive thermoplastic filaments or tapes may be rolled on under heat, or a thermoplastic film may be laminated on to the substrate over its entire surface and then subdivided by means of at least one hot embossing roller. The thermoplastic plastics may also be applied by scattering dry powder on to the substrate by means of sieves, vibrators and optionally stencils. Flocking may be carried out electrostatically on both sides of the substrate and fibres of different lengths, in different patterns and/or different colours may be employed on each side.
