Abstract

Tube envelopes are formed by spiral winding a separating material on a rotating mandrel, with overlapping lapers, one surface being softenable by heat a layer of reinforcement being then spirally wound with overlapping edges on the outside. The reinforcement is impregnated with thermosetting resin, which is then hardened and the assembly removed from the mandrel. Spirally wound tube of reinforced resin is formed continuously and after hardening can be removed from the mandrel. The separation layer may be of cellophane or waxed paper and is wound continuously onto a polished mandrel driven slowly by a motor.
