Abstract
Process enabling heat cured adhesive to be used when fabricating tubes from helically wound resin bonded paper strips. (a) strips of paper are pumiced (abraded) to a lenticular cross-section with thin edges, (b) the strips are coated with a heat-curable resin, (c) the coated paper is preheated, (d) the hot paper is applied to a mandrel by a spiral winding device set to apply a high winding pressure, (e) the wound tube is heated internally (via the mandrel) and externally (by any suitable means) and (f) the bonded paper tube is cut into lengths as desired. These prods. are useful for tubing for mechanical or electrical applications, requiring significant strength and heat resistance. The tubes are more durable than tubes bonded with dextrin or with thermoplastic adhesives, and can be of any length, unlike tubes consolidated and cured in closed moulds.
