Abstract

1359215 Rollers DUNBEATH HOLDINGS PTY Ltd 28 May 1971 17974/71 Heading F2U A roller sleeve 70 comprises a fibre (e.g. glass) reinforced synthetic plastics sleeve whose outer surface comprises exposed fibre giving a fuzzy surface 114. The sleeve may have an outer elastomeric layer 124 (e.g. natural or neoprene rubber or polyurethane) moulded there around, Fig. 8 (not shown), being bonded thereto by a bonding agent and fibres 114 extending into the layer 124. This composite sleeve may be press fitted or keyed to a metal core, Fig. 10. The sleeve 70 may be formed by winding, Fig. 1 (not shown), a continuous strand of glass fibres impregnated with polyester resin on to a mandrel, airing the sleeve, first on and then off the mandrel, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), then turning on a lathe, Fig. 6 (not shown), with a blunt tungsten carbide tool (110) to shatter the resin on the outer surface thereby exposing the fibres. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,264,549.
