Abstract

In a process for pouring into ingot-moulds having the larger extremely at the top, the moulds, after filling with molten metal and solidification of the upper surface thereof so as to form a cover are tipped into a nearly vertical position until the cavities which are formed under the cover are filled with molten metal from the ingot interior, the moulds first being tipped into a nearly horizontal position for a certain time, after which the moulds are tipped upsidedown, when the ingots fall out of the mould for part of their length and hit against a stop bar fixed to the installation chassis, the moulds and ingots then being then tipped to a certain angle e.g. 160 degrees from the initial position, in order to let the ingots fall on to transport means, to be removed and cooled. An advantage is that the process is not limited by ingot-size or metal quality and special cooling apparatus are unnecessary.
