Abstract
Catalyst layer, reacts with liquid electrolyte; a layer of hydrophobic material allows reactive gas to pass but prevents liquid electrolyte from passing. The electrode also has a coating of a material which allows less water vapour to pass than the hydrophobic layer. Pref., the later layer is a synthetic plastics, e.g. microporous non-plasticised polyvinyl chloride, or an emulsion paint, or it is metallic, e.g. a sheet of porous Ni; or is porous filter-paper, or a bed of bound mineral particles or a sheet of fritted ceramic, or paper loaded with TiO2, or porous felt.
