<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Device for feeding the inlet of a conveyor comprising an Archimèd® screw surrounded by a sheath.
The present invention relates to a device for feeding the entry of a conveyor comprising an Archimedean life surrounded by a sheath. Lifetime conveyors * used up to now with a fixed sheath, in which an Archimedean screw turns, have only low capacity and low efficiency. However, it has also been suggested to use conveyors in which the screw and the sleeve either rotate around the longitudinal axis of the conveyor, in order to increase the capacity and efficiency of the conveyor.
In order to exploit these advantageous properties, in particular, at high speeds at which considerable centrifugal forces develop, it has been found necessary to take measures to positively guide the materials.

towards the entrance of the conveyor.
The quality of the via conveyors used up to take, which have a fixed gait in which a via turns, can pull considerably improved by such positive guidance of the material to be transported. the originality of the device according to the invention * and that oelui-oi comprises, au) Mine, a guide surface, at least part of which rotates around the longitudinal axis of the conveyor, independently of the via de oelui-oi , and that this rotating guide surface is in the form of a helical or spiral vane located in an open cap formed by the entire guide bar around the inlet of the conveyor.
Other and advantageous characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description which will follow, given solely by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the appended drawing. in which: - Figure 1 is a side view, partially in section, of a conveyor equipped with a first embodiment of the device of the invention, shown schematically - Figure 2 is a schematic section of the device of Figure 1 - Figure 3 is a schematic sectional view of a second embodiment of the invention;

The conveyor shown by way of example in Figure 1 comprises an Archimedean life 3 which is designed to rotate in the direction of the arrow 2 around an axis 1 shown by a dot-and-dash line, and a conduit or a gai- which is also designed to rotate, mata in the direction of arrow 4 around the same axis 1. It is therefore seen that in operation, the screw 3 and the sheath 5 rotate in opposite directions, substantially at the same periphery speed as . thus transporting the materials from the inlet 6 to the outlet 7 of the conveyor, where the materials leave the latter via a slide 8. The conveyor comprises a body 9 which has, at its upper end, above the outlet 7, a chamber 10 intended for a gear 11.
This gear comprises a toothed wheel 12 fixed to the shaft 13 of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the screw and a toothed wheel 14 fixed to the sleeve 5, these two wheels being: mounted in the body 9. The bearings of the screw 3 and of the sleeve 5 have not been shown.
With the wheels 12 and 14 mesh pinions 15 and 16 which are fixed to the shaft 17 of an electric motor 18 carried by the body 9. The means supporting the conveyor, in the desired operating position, are designated by 19.
At its lower end, near the inlet 6, the conveyor comprises a feed or guide device, designated in its entirety by 20, and which comprises a guide surface 21 (FIGS. 2 to 4) e @ means of in which a divided material for example (not shown), is directed towards the inlet 6, which makes it possible to feed the conveyor positively, with material to be transported into it by means of the screw 3 and the sheath 5 The guide surface constitutes an open cover around the inlet 6 of the conveyor.
The guide surface 21 consists of a fixed surface 23 and one or more vanes or wings 24 which, in the embodiment shown, are located outside the sheath 5, near entry 6 and rotate with this sheath 5 around axis 1 of the conveyor. The blade or blades 24 are driven and rotate independently of the life 3. The blade or blades 24 have a helical or spiral shape, as will be seen below.
The anterior end 24a of the rotary vane 24 (Figures 5 and 6), which is disposed on the outer surface of the sheath 5 of the life 3, extends radially and,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
therefore, forms a right angle a with the longitudinal axis 1 of the conveyor. The rear end 24b of the blade 24 is located outside the end 3a of the screw 3 which projects out of the sheath 5 and forms an acute angle b with the axis 1 of the conveyor. The posterior end 24b describes a truncated trajectory during the rotation of the vane 24. The angle a of the anterior end 24a is much more obtuse than the acute angle II which the posterior end 24b makes with. axis 1 of the convector.
The blade 24 is thus progressively folded from the sheath 5 towards the end 3a of the life 3 which projects out of the sheath, so that it constitutes the ouyert cover surrounding the inlet 6 of the conveyor. The shape of this open cap is even better when, as shown in Figure 7, the rear end 24o of the vane 24 extends largely parallel to the longitudinal axis 1 of the conveyor. In the embodiment shown in Figure 6, the vane 24 is connected to the edge 25 of
26 a receptacle / whose wall 27 and bottom 28 surround one end 3a of the screw 3 which projects out of the sheath 5.
The receptacle 26 has a shape gradually narrowing from the edge 25 towards the bottom 28. Thanks to this device, the materials to be transported are separated from the bearing 29 of the life 3 and from the sheath 5, which contributes to di @ i - reduce maintenance spawning. In this case, the wall 27 and the bottom 28 form a connection between the sheath 5 and its bearing 29.
It is advantageous, as shown in figure 6, to give the end 3a of the protruding life 3 hore of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
sheath, a conical shape widening towards the free end of the life. An even more advantageous shape is obtained when the end 3a of the core 3, located inside and outside the end of the sheath 5, comprises a double yarn and has a pitch greater than the rest of life.
The embodiments shown in Figures 5, 6 and 7 are able to feed the conveyor and keep it full even when the screw and the sleeve 5 are rotating at high speeds resulting in intense centrifugal bores which tend. to project the materials out of the inlet 6 of the conveyor.
An additional helical vane 24d is provided in Fig. 7 and should be considered as a means of allowing a certain amount of material, suitable for all operating conditions, to reach vane 24.
In the embodiments described above, the rotating guide surface is formed by helical vanes which attract the material towards the inlet 6 of the conveyor. However, it is also possible to realize the guide surface in the form of a spiral vane, as will be seen later.
Figures 8 and 9 show such a spiral vane 30, the front end 30a of which forms an acute angle b with the longitudinal axis 1 of the conveyor.
The rear end 30b of the blade 30 is substantially parallel to the axis 1 of the conveyor. The blade 30 tapers from its anterior end 30a towards its posterior end 30b. Experiments have shown that the part taken by the anterior end 30a is gradually attracted towards the screw 3 and towards the entrances 6 and that during
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
this movement, the lower edge of this way follows a line which coincides, roughly, with the lower edge 3 of the blade 30.
Figures 10 and 11 show another embodiment of a spiral vane, denoted in the oourrea- oe by 32, and which has the width marl between its anterior end 32a, which makes an acute angle b with the axis. 1 of the conveyor, and its rear end 32b, which extends parallel to this axis 1.
The rear end 32b is connected, at the base, to a bar 33 which extends diametrically to the axis 1 of the voyeur oon and which serves to carry a bearing 34 to mount 1 lower end of the screw 3 in the sheath 5 .
Finally, Figure 12 shows an application of the invention. In this example, the conveyor is mounted vertically in an eilo 35 in order to aerate the grain stored there. The conveyor comprises a fixed sheath 36, the upper end of which opens into a distribution hopper 37. To turn the screw 38, a motor 39 is mounted at the upper end of the conveyor and eet connected to the life 38 by a coupling 40. At its lower end, the conveyor comprises a rotating sheath 41 which is driven by a motor 42 by means of a transmission 43.
The rotary sheath 41 is equipped with. its lower end, with a positive dia 20 according to the invention.
