<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements to pressure dyeing machines"
This invention relates to improvements to pressure dyeing machines.
Turnstile dyeing spines have been proposed in which the fabric to be dyed passes in a form collected over a tourniquet which pleats it in the dye from which it is removed by means of a roller situated on the rise.
It has also been proposed to raise the temperature of the dye to establish a pressure inside the machine, but difficulties have been encountered * for the hermetic closing of the lids which open outwards from the openings through which the fabric is fed into and taken out of the machine and which are provided with a safety mechanism preventing their removal before the internal pressure has been reduced to atmospheric pressure.

A turnstile dyeing machine A lend. one or more openings., to introduce the fabric and remove it, which are arranged in the upper part. of the casing, above the fabric passage from the front roll to a variable turnstile a.
The openings are formed by doors or covers pivoting inside the casing of the machine, on a shaft b, in order to open inwards. Each cover B has a periphery in contact with a seat b around the opening, a seal ring b2, of rubber or other elastic material, is housed between the peripheral edge of the cover and the seat around the opening and fixing to the door with a b3 ring,
The shaft b, on which the door or the cover B pivots, is provided with an arm 3 1 extending outside the machine and connected to the piston d of a cylinder D, hydraulic or pneumatic, capable of turn the cover approximately 160 to open or close it.
The arm B1 can be curved, to allow the movement of the door or the cover B and the cylinder D pivots, on a bracket d1 fixed to the outside of the machine.
The doors or covers B as well as the openings may be elliptical in shape, with their major axis parallel to the axis of the machine, which allows the minor axis to be reduced to facilitate movement of the fabric during opening. cover, while ensuring adequate space for insertion and removal.
In a machine with more than two doors. or covers B, the shaft b passes through the curved ends thereof and is mounted to rotate, at each end, in sockets b4 of a casing b5 welded to the casing of the machine and containing a jam b6. The shaft b is driven in rotation by cylinders D operating
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in synchronism at each end of the chine @
When only one or two doors are planned. or covers B, as shown in Figure 6, a single cylinder D is installed at one end of the machine and the opposite end of the shaft b is inside it.
The machine can be equipped with a safety valve a2, a sight glass a3 for an examination during operation, a pump a4 injecting the dye, a chamber a5 for the addition of colourant, an emptying of the dye. liquor and condenser a6 a low pressure outlet a7, an exchanged heat inlet a8, a turnstile control a9, an inspection sight a11, a low voltage lighting a12 a steam inlet a13, a water inlet a14, a condensate outlet a15 and a variable speed control a16.
The invention applies in particular to fabrics to be dyed at high temperature, since the pressure prevailing in the latter maintains the. door, or the cover. B on the seat (s) b1 and the cylinders. D, hydraulic, or pneumatic, can only open the doors or the covers when the internal pressure is reduced substantially to atmospheric pressure, in order to prevent premature opening thereof.
The machine such as it deorites above can be built at a cost price substantially lower than that of existing pressure machines with doors. or covers, not opening outwards and the safety factor is greatly increased.
