Il PERFECTIONNEMENTS CONCERNANT LES DISPOSITIFS DE SECURITE
POUR LES INSTALLATIONS DESTINEES A LA CIRCULATION DES FLUIDES." "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

II IMPROVEMENTS CONCERNING SAFETY DEVICES
FOR INSTALLATIONS INTENDED FOR THE CIRCULATION OF FLUIDS. ""
The object of the present invention relates to a safety device for installations intended for the circulation of fluids.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This is an automatic device that makes it possible to avoid liquid leaks and more especially water leaks, when, at the time of a cut caused by any circumstance or accident, a faucet, open, and that a leak occurs when water circulation is restored.
The essential idea of the invention, which was the basis of the successive improvements, consists in creating inside the claimed device two compartments, one for the entry of liquid, the other for its exit. tie, connected by a mouth closing under the action of a float piston when a pressure difference is established on both sides of said mouth, and opening when the pressures are equal; at this time a float piston rises in a cylindrical chamber arranged for this purpose.
The pressure is equal when the liquid which reaches the inlet of the device is introduced with a low but constant flow.
This low flow passes into the outlet oompartment by means of a second communication existing between the two compartments mentioned above; this communication, while sharing the upper part of the cylindrical chamber where the float pison is located, continues along a duct located longitudinally against the wall of said chamber to end in the communication port of the two compartments mentioned above, below the float.
We will give concrete form to the characteristics of the device claimed by means of the attached diagrams, which correspond to one embodiment, without any limiting nature, and strictly presented as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
example of realization.
- Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the device in a double-acting variant, obtained by a plane which is supposed to include the axes of the inlet and outlet ducts.
- Fig. 2 shows section II-II in figure 1.
- Figure 3 is a partial representation of the autonomous operating variant of the device of Figure 1.
FIG. 4 corresponds to another partial representation of a second variant of the device of FIG. 1.
- Figure 5 shows us another variant.
- Figure 6 shows another variant of the device of Figure 1.
- Figure 7 corresponds to the cross section VII-VII, shown in Figure 6.
With reference to said figures and to the numbers which designate the parts and details of the device shown, we can make the following description:
The device is mounted on a base element 1 connected to the liquid inlet pipe 2 and to the outlet 3. This base element 1 comprises an internal compartment, in which there is the internal mouth 4 intended for the passage of the liquid; this mouth can be closed at its lower part by means of the passage key 5, or at its upper part by means of a float piston which will be described a little later.
The device 5 intended for cutting off the liquid comprises, mounted on the body 6 and coupled to the 1, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
following items! the head 7 of the valve mounted on the piston 9 which is actuated with the key 5, provided with a crown 10 and a portion of packing 11 serving for closing.
The lever 12 allows the movement of the float piston 13 from the bottom to the top.
As regards the embodiment to which FIG. 3 relates, the basic element 1 has the same shape as that presented in the previous case, and instead of using the key 5, we uses the needle-piston 32, provided with a helical spring 33 and mounted on the nut 34, which blocks the space 35 between the base element 2 and this éorou.
The rod 36 of the needle-piston 32 is provided internally with a stopper 37 and a seal 38, This variant of the needle-piston as a device allowing the passage liquid, can be coupled to the normal interrupting device 5 described in the previous paragraph, as indicated in figure 4 where it suffices to place the needle-piston inside the pressure screw of the key 5.
This device, which operates autonomously, can be changed into a "double-acting system", giving it the possibility of serving as a normal passage key; for this it suffices to couple to the lower crown of the base element 1, the lever 5 as indicated in figure 1, instead of the needle piston 32 shown in figure 3.
The hollow float 13 is at rest when it is in the closed position, on the upper part of the communication mouth 4 and has an axial duct
14, which extends through channel 15 of the head
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
tubular float. This float 13 is located inside a cylinder 17 provided with a cylindrical head 16 also and hollow so as to allow the upward displacement of the float 13; this cylinder 17 is provided with a crown 19 allowing its junction with the base element 1, which thus provides easy access to the interior of the claimed device.
The entry of the liquid inside the device takes place through the mouth 20 and continues through the intermediary of the annular duct 21 which surrounds the cylinder 17 at its lower part. The passage of the liquid from the annular duct 21 to the chamber 22 takes place through the orifices 23 situated on its contour and at a certain height from the communication mouth 4. These orifices form a ring, which, although being formed in the figure of six or ten cylindrical orifices, may in reality have various shapes thereof, such as square or rectangular, and as many numbers and rows as may be deemed necessary.
The object of such orifices 23 is to force the liquid to enter the chamber 22 in a concentric manner so as to cancel the depression and the vortices which could be established between the upper part of said passage 4 and the float piston 13, thus obtaining a perfect mixture of water and air when the latter is present in the form of bubbles in the inlet ducts.
The grid 24 promotes this mixture of air and water and serves as a protective filter for the ofifices 23.
The channel 14 serves to expel the air existing inside the device and the pipes and allows equalization of the pressures in the compartments 20 and 25
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
liquid inlet and outlet. This channel 14, as we have already explained above, extends through the channel 15 placed in the tube head 16 of the float and opens into the other conduit 26, which regulates the entry of liquid from the float. nozzle duct 27. Enveloping the entire tube head 16 of the float and part of the nozzle
27 and integral therewith is a grid filter 28; it should be noted that one must ensure that the orifices of the grid are smaller than the opening of the small channel 26.
At the upper part of the cylindrical chamber 22, an inlet valve 29 of known type has been placed, so as to facilitate the entry of atmospheric air through an orifice 30 located at the upper part of the cylinder 17. The inlet valve 29 is coupled to the walls of the cylindrical chamber 22 by means of a screw 31 perforated along its axis and having a diameter greater than that of the nozzle 27, with the aim of allowing the float to move.
Also float 13 (Figure 5) may lack a transom duct and communication between the deposits is established through channel 39.
In FIG. 6 is shown a simpler variant of the claimed device which has been the subject of successive improvements before arriving at the device described in the preceding figures. the device which is the subject of this variant is connected to the inlet duct 2 and to the outlet duct 3; moreover, it has an internal compartment in which is placed the mouth 40 intended for the passage of the liquid; this mouth also closes by means of a float piston. In this variant, the device consists of the duct
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
longitudinal 41 and integral pistons 42 and 43, the first being filled with air in order to move the float and the second filled with water in such a way that it has the shape of a glass.
The small annular channel 44, adjustable at will, communicates with the 41.
The lower part of the piston 42 has a conical or equivalent shape, which allows the closure of the. mouth 40. In the housing of the pistons 42 and 43, the upper end part can be closed by means of a screw cap 45 and between which and the piston 43 is an air chamber 46 in which a filter 47 consisting of a circular filter made of plastic or the like is placed. This filter only concerns the water intended to pass through the small channel 44. This small channel
44 and the longitudinal conductor 41 are in communication by means of a regulating device 48 connecting two conduits and capable of rotating in a certain limited area.
The lower part of the longitudinal duct
41 opens into a siphon 49 then into the mouth 40, which, once the pressures have been balanced in the system, prevents the return of the air bubbles which have remained in the outlet pipes.
At the lower part, a needle piston 50 similar to that described in the previous paragraphs has been mounted.
Since the various parts of the claimed device have been sufficiently described, we will briefly detail its operation later.
This device is specially intended to be
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
used as a key of passage and in order to control the exit of the liquid of a determined number of taps such as tank taps, of an apartment etc ... or fluid, and at the highest possible point in the duct. If for some cause or for some accident the water supply is stopped and one or more taps remain open under these conditions, all the pipes as well as the device in question will be filled with air, and, under these conditions, the hollow piston 13 falls by its own weight and closes the mouth 4.
If in such circumstances, (rollers, remained open) the water circulation resumes with a normal flow, the water flows into the device in question, flows through the grid 24, passes through the annular duct and from the latter into the chamber 22 through the orifices 23. As the water rises in the chamber 22, the air which is in the device is exhausted. As it is desired that there is a vacuum on the mouth 4 the hollow piston remains in the closed position. When the water has reached the nozzle 27 through the grid filter 28, it filters through the latter through the conduits 26 and 15, then descends through the channel 14 of the piston 13, but flowing slowly. , because, will pass only the small flow allowed by the nozzle, until the mouth 4 has inopdé the cavity to reach the compartment 25.
This same water flow will circulate in line 3 until it exits via the open tap; by flowing this thin stream of water can not produce flooding because previously the nozzle was adjusted according to the drain hole of the bathtubs, sinks, etc ... of the apartment considered and at the same time
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
this system will make it possible to warn the inhabitants of the apartment that a tap has been left open. Once the valve has been closed, the small flow of water will build up inside the pipes and there will be an increase in pressure on port 4 which will slowly release the vacuum. existing. When the pressures are equal, the hollow piston rises leaving the normal passage for water which passes from compartment 20 to compartment 25 through mouth 4.
If we needed a normal volume of water, when, through the open tap, the small stream of water allowed by the nozzle flows, we would have to close the tap and wait for the existing vacuum on port 4 to disappear. , that is to say wait for all the valves of the tank to close and for the pipes to fill, which would involve a waste of time. To avoid this we would start the piston-needle 32 which would produce a mechanical watch of the float 13 and would cause an instantaneous outflow of water. The coil spring 33 would actuate the needle piston to bring it to its rest position.
The nature of the invention having been sufficiently described, vomme being a practical embodiment; It is obvious that modifications could be introduced, both in the whole and in the constituent parts, the shape, the arrangement and the material used, without however departing from the scope of said invention.
