<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Il est mentionné ci-avant que lors de la formation d'un tissu, l'eau des matières premières est éliminée dans une grande mesure .à partir de la surface exposée de ces matières premières et l'expression "dans une grande mesure" est utilisée, parce que dans une machine Fourdrinier du type décrit, l'élirai- nation de l'eau à partir d'une première couche de matières premières, en supposant que la bande n'est pas imperméable, s'effectue en substance d'une manière égale à partir des deux surfaces, une moitié passant par la bande et l'autre moitié pro- venant de la surface exposée, mais néanmoins à partir de chaque couche et principalement à partir de la première si la bande est imperméable;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements made or relating to machines for the manufacture of paper, cardboard or similar fibrous products". the present invention relates to the manufacture of paper, cardboard or similar fibrous products (hereinafter referred to as oarton) in a Fourdrinier-type china, in which pressure is applied to the raw materials advancing on the conveyor belt or on a shaped fabric which, in turn, is found on the conveyor belt, during the transformation of the raw materials into a cohesive fabric, and in which the water, thus
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
separated from raw materials, forming this fabric,
This removed to a large extent from the exposed surface of the raw materials. By removing water from the exposed surface of the raw materials, a board with any number of folds can easily be made, since the water for forming the second and subsequent layers must not pass through another layer. of raw materials or shaped fabric *
A single ply or multiple ply Fourdrinier machine as described above is hereinafter referred to as a urdrinier machine of the type described.
By the term "exposed surface" of the raw materials in a single ply machine is meant the surface which is not in contact with the web. In the water of a multi-fold oarton, the raw material exposed area refers to the area which is not in contact with another raw material layer which is in oontaot with the strip, or which is not in oontaot with a shaped fabric which is in contact with the web,
or which is not in contact with the exposed diaper or the fabric formed from more than one diaper or cloth of this nature or different combinations thereof.
In the present patent application, a maohine of the yourdrinier type has its normal meaning, for example it must be distinguished from a roll molding machine (sometimes referred to as a tank machine), in which the transformation takes place. on the periphery of a cylinder and where the shaped fabric is transmitted, at least partially, to a felt or to a wire mesh.
With regard to the above-mentioned "transformation of raw materials" or shaped fabric it should be pointed out that the raw materials for the manufacture of cardboard
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
normally contain 1/2 to 1 1/2% solids; when this amount has been increased to about 4% solids, upon removal of water, the fibers in the resulting fabric begin to intertwine and assume a relationship. structural to each other which then remains substantially unaltered, i.e. such that a cohesive tissue is to be shaped.
Of course, a shaped fabric is then dehydrated, under pressure and / or by suction, to about 20% solids and is then subsequently dried by heated rollers and other devices.
It is mentioned above that in forming a fabric, the water of the raw materials is removed to a large extent from the exposed surface of these raw materials and the phrase "to a large extent" is used, because in a Fourdrinier machine of the type described the removal of water from a first layer of raw materials, assuming that the strip is not impermeable, takes place substantially equally from both surfaces, one half passing through the tape and the other half coming from the exposed surface, but nevertheless from each layer and mainly from the first if the tape is impermeable;
a smaller proportion of water, brought in from the first layer, passes through the strip in fact, with! .a third or in all cases with a fourth layer, a very small amount of water paused by the strip, although a large amount of this water was absorbed by the second and by the third layers as appropriate.
An example of a Fourdrinier machine of the type mentioned above is that described and claimed in UK Patent Application No. 748,597, the raw materials advancing to the pre-application position of a Fourdrinier machine of the type described. usually form a puddle behind this position and,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in certain circumstances, this is not a disadvantage, because a reserve of raw materials for processing into a fabric is thus provided.
However, it is desirable that the top surface of the puddle be as level as possible as it is advanced to the pressure application position.
In other circumstances, however, a puddle can be a disadvantage, because if the volume of this puddle is too large, it sometimes extends straight up to the drainage boot from which the raw materials come and thus interferes with the feed, which can result in flow of raw materials from the edges of the conveyor belt and therefore loss thereof.
This puddle may also become too turbulent and very agitated and thus interfere with the formation of the tie; volumes of air can be introduced into the puddle and trapped in the tissue during formation, resulting in deleterious effects on the final product.
On the other hand, if the belt only turns slowly, the puddle may be insufficiently turbulent, so that the fibers in the raw materials tend to agglomerate into pieces, again resulting in malformation.
An object of the present invention is to control a puddle of raw materials occurring behind a pressure application position during the processing of these raw materials in a Fourdrinier machine of the type described.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a leveled pool of raw materials located behind, a pressure application position during the processing, of these raw materials in a Fourdrinier machine of the type described.
Yet another object of the present invention consists of

this device includes in
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
in addition to a raw material removal member located behind the pressure application member for removing excess raw materials from the puddle thus allowing only the required amount of raw material to be supplied. to the pressure application device @
The organ for the elimination of raw materials in exobe consists of a sucking device.
Alternatively, excess raw materials can be removed by gravity.
According to another alternative, raw materials in an exoe can be ejected from the puddle.
In yet another alternative, excess raw materials can be removed by gravity in combination with suction.
The pressure application member may comprise a roller designed to guide a fine metal strip towards the conveyor belt forming an angular vacuum, while the member for the removal of water perpendicularly through the wire mesh is mounted. downstream of the vacuum, the arrangement being such that the pressure of the upper wire mesh acts on the vacuum to separate the water from the raw materials, which reaches the elimination member.

The forming roll is a roll covered with metal wires, so that water can pass through its periphery. Behind the pressure application device 5, 7, a suction duct 12 has been mounted, the orifice 13 of which (see FIG. 2) is parallel to the strip 2 'this duct is arranged in an adjustable manner so that the The orifice 13 can be located at a predetermined height above the strip, this duct extending over the entire width of this strip 2.
The pressure application mechanism and suction conduit for the second layer of raw materials, for example to the right of Fig. 1, is a replica of those described above and therefore needs no explanation.
The machine described above works in the following way: the raw materials are constantly given up by the boot 2 * and the conveyor belt 1 and the metal belt 3. are controlled in the direction of the arrows, although the metal belt .2 can be ordered for cash. tion by band 2.

It is clearly visible if a longer rida. : xti.- ty of raw material than that capable of passing below the roll .1 is supplied to a roll, this quantity of raw materials forms a puddle and this one, designated by the number 15, is represented in particular on figures The flow of raw materials can be controlled so that just sufficient quantity is supplied to the vacuum

in accordance with the belt speed. and the metallo quë.2t strip to meet the requirements of the fabric being formed;
however, precise control is difficult to achieve and this may result in too small an amount of raw materials supplied.
Therefore, in accordance with the present invention,
EMI9.5
the raw materials are delivered exoee to those necessary for the formation of a tissue, this excess being eliminated * This is carried out by means of the suction duct 12 in connection with the speed of flow of the raw materials on the belt 2.
For example, suppose that the puddle, formed in con-
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
formed with the speed of the raw materials supplied, has a depth of 4 "(10.16 or) and that only a puddle with a depth of 2" (5.08 cm) can be introduced into the vacuum µ in order to manufacture the particular tissue being formed, the suction duct 12 being adjusted so that no orifice 13 is located 2 "(5.08 cm) above the strip 2.
It is clearly visible that by using this means, precise control of the quantity of raw materials supplied is readily available, since the machine can be set in motion at the desired speed by first keeping the duct out of service. 12 and then lowering it into the puddle 15, so that its orifice 13 is at the desired level of the raw materials, thereby removing the excess above this level and further leveling the upper surface of the puddle when 'it advances to the pressure application position 5.7.
the shape of the conduit 12 shown in Figures 1 and 2 is a desirable shape, because it allows the orifice 13 to extend into the vacuum 8, however a suction conduit 12, as shown in Figure 3 is also suitable *
Instead of directing the orifice of the suction device 12 towards the vacuum 8, it can be directed towards the discharge box 1 and, in this case, it does not need to be activated for a suction. but includes a spoon which foams the raw materials according to their acquired speed.
Figure 4 shows an alternate method for the removal of exoiled raw materials. In this case, a curved plate 16 extends through the strip ± and a blade 17, at right angles to the plate 16, is develops backwards in the direction of flow boot 1.
A collector 18 is mounted on each side of the strip 2. Bans this
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
device, the blade 17 is adjusted to the desired height of
EMI11.1
so that the excess raw materials are emitted from the puddle 15 and are deflected by the curvature of the
EMI11.2
plate 12 towards the collectors; i, 8 Figure 5 shows a device which removes excess raw materials by gravity.
In this case, a
EMI11.3
flywheel frame 22 is mounted on either side of the strip and oee frames, which are preferably curved (for example at point z so as to extend into a vacuum, are punched with a series of holes li, so so that the excess raw material located above the bottom of the holes flows by gravity into the rollers, "8 ,.
If necessary, gravity disposal of materials
EMI11.4
Excess raw materials can be increased by an aucaion, although this is not shown. In this case a tubing of
EMI11.5
suooion is attached to the outer surface of the flywheels 19 in order to remove excess raw materials by suooion.
Excess raw materials can, in any case, be returned to flow boxes 1 or be returned to a bulk raw material tank which codes them back to flow boots *

In the drawings the forming roller .1 is present such that it guides the upper wire mesh.

5 directly onto the web. 2 "so that the void, µ encompasses the periphery of the roll on However, it is evident that this roll 1 can be moved away from the strip 2, so that a long narrow gap develops. from roll to slice 10.
In this case, the greatest pressure is applied to the raw materials at the edge of the wafer 10, so that the latter constitutes the pressure application device,

the puddle It has been, starting from this edge towards the rear

beyond the periphery of the roller 7. At the point where the raw materials exceed the height of the angular void, they are obviously under a certain pressure coming from the forming roller 1 and / or the metal strip 5,
For explanatory purposes, the parallel parts of the bands% and 1 have been shown close to each other.
However, it is evident that in practice the lower metal strip yields under the pressure of the raw materials entering the vacuum 8, so that although the forming roller 1 is shown by firmly pressing the two metal strips against each other. the other, an angular, narrow and long void 60 extends, when the machine is in operation, from the periphery of the forming roller 2 to the water removal device ±, where the tranohe 10 gives firmly the two metal bands against each other and thus constitutes the pressure application device *
