<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

When grinding without bar tips, the accuracy of the grinding result is critically dependent on the precise adjustment of the guides on which the bars are supported outside the actual grinding area. The more precisely these guides support the rods in the axis that is formed during the pointless grinding by the cooperation of the grinding wheel, the control grinding wheel and the workpiece support and the more precise can be the result of the grinding. regarding the diameter. The requisite is natural-

lely that the bars to be ground are aligned with precision beforehand.
It is common practice to support bars, depending on their diameter and weight, either in slides or on rollers. The invention advantageously relates to a device for the pointless grinding of bars of small diameter and light weight, for which the range of slides is sufficient. However, it can be extended to roller guides and has as its basis the problem of providing a bar guide as simple as possible but precisely adjustable, which should be used on a common machine for grinding cylindrical surfaces, without points and must therefore be produced in a quickly removable form, in order to also make it possible to grind other parts on the machine after a short conversion time.
The conversion time for various bar diameters must of course also be as short as possible, so that grinding only small series is already economical to carry out.
With the aim of solving the sketched problem, the invention proposes a device for grinding without bar tips, advantageously with slides, the novelty of which lies in that each of the ends directed towards the grinding machine of the supports receiving the slides. is supported to pivot about a vertical axis in the immediate vicinity of the grinding zone, in a bearing connected to the guide bridge of the machine, while the outer ends of the slide supports are supported to pivot on pillars or uprights.
According to a variant, the arrangement is established so that, for a more precise adjustment of the slide supports, each of the bearings arranged in the vicinity of the grinding zone is adjustable with precision in height and laterally and that the supports. Slide ports can also be adjusted in height and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
laterally at their outer ends supported on the pillars or uprights. Finally, it is ensured that the slide supports can, when converting the machine for other grinding work without spikes, be easily removed from their bearings and uprights.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the following description, given without limitation and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of the device according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view corresponding to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, taken along the line A-B of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view, on a larger scale, along the line C-D of Figure 2. '
The pointless grinding machine 1 as; such ', comprising a control wheel 2, a wheel 3 and a guide bridge 5 carrying the workpiece supports 4, is indicated here only to the extent necessary for understanding. The essential feature of the device resides in that the two supports 6, on which the slides 7 and 7 'are placed, are supported on their side facing the grinding machine in bearings 8 with vertical axis 9 (figure 4), the bearings 8 being fixed to the guide bridge 5 which carries out together with the control wheel 2 on a support carriage 10 the advance movement towards the wheel 3.
The second support of the supports 6 takes place near their other end by means of uprights or pillars 11, where the slide supports 6 are carried at 12 also in rotation (FIG. 3).
The very important passage from the bar guide to the grinding zone and from this to the bar guide is obtained
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
firstly by precise adjustment of the bearings 8 and therefore of the slide supports 6 on the side of the grinding machine 1.
For this purpose, the bearings 8 can be adjusted in height by the bolts 13 and laterally by the bolts 14.
In correspondence with this operation, the slide supports 6 are also adjusted on the uprights 11 by nuts 15 in height and by hand wheels 16 laterally. For small value corrections, which are frequently required when grinding bars with tolerances of a few thousandths of a millimeter, the adjustment can however be omitted, since the leverage ratio between the pivot axis 9 up to the The grinding area and from the pivot axis 9 to the pivot axis 12 is very large (about 1:30).
In order to facilitate the conversion from one bar diameter to another, the guides 7 located on the side of the control wheel are fixed, as shown in Figure 3, and on the contrary the guides 7 'located on the side of the grinding wheel. grinding wheel 3 can be fitted into elongated holes 17 on their supports 6. The fact that these slide supports 6, for the purpose of converting the grinding machine 1 to normal grinding work without spikes, can be removed without difficulty from their bearings 8 and from their pillars or uprights 11 is sufficiently clear from the accompanying drawings and does not require any further explanation.
