<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

We know that in large automobile factories assembly lines are used to speed up the pace of production. It is quite obvious that in factories or workshops with low flow, such an apparatus cannot be employed although it is advantageous to facilitate the operations to be carried out by placing each vehicle on a bench allowing the access of all the parts of it. latest.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The object of the present invention is precisely an assembly bench of this type, which is particularly suitable, in particular for the production of automobile bodies made of synthetic material. The assembly bench according to the invention is essentially characterized in that its bearing surface is mounted on a spherical ball joint surmounting the movable member of a lifting device with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical control, so as to be able to take easily all desired positions.
The drawing appended to this specification shows, by way of example only, a pneumatically or hydraulically controlled assembly bench. In this drawing:
Fig. 1 is a section in vertical elevation through the ball joint support and its lifting device; Fig.2 is a section through II-II of fig.1; Fig.3 is a section through III-III of Fig.1; Fig.4 is a section through IV-IV of fig.1.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, at the top of a tubular piston 1 capable of sliding vertically in a pump or cylinder body 2 fixed to the ground, for example by its base 3, a sphere 4 is mounted on which can be tightened a ball head.
This head consists essentially of two crowns 5 and 6, one 5 pierced with notches 7 at its lower part is in contact with the upper part of the sphere 4, while the other 6 is in contact with the lower part. of it. These two rings are fitted into a vertical sleeve 8 with which the latter is in contact respectively by its conical internal surface, that 8 'and by its cylindrical external surface 8' '.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The sleeve 8 is enveloped by a box 9 of square shape, itself inserted between two double T-beams 10 intended to support at its upper part the platform receiving the vehicle to be completed. On their lower face, the profiles 10 are joined by a disc 11 fixed to them by screws 12. Vertical springs 13 arranged in a circle (fig. 1 and 4) are compressed between this disc 11 and the lower ring 6, where they stay in suitable forais 14.
Cer reports 13 therefore support the crown 6 and press it against the sphere 4; the crown 6 has a cylindrical redont 6 'on the outside on which the sleeve 8 can rest; this retention is because on its underside of a cavity intended to lace the springs 13.
On the other hand, the upper crown 5 ′ is located in the sleeve 8 by the lug 15 carried by the sleeve 8 and protruding into cavities 5 ′ provided in the crown 5.
On its outer surface, the sleeve 8 has a square thread 16 onto which is screwed a concentric threaded ring 17 inserted into the housing 9. Screws 18 passing through the profile 10 and the housing 9 make it possible to block the latter in a determined position.
The springs 13 compress the crown 6 against the sphere 4 by bearing on the crown 11 which is integral with the head (5-6).
The pressure of these springs causes friction of the head (5-6) on the sphere 4 sufficient to maintain the assembly in the desired working position.
When this position is reached, it suffices, after loosening the screws 18, to operate the crown 17 by means of a lever 19 to lock the system in the desired position.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Indeed, the circular displacement of the threaded ring 17 on the threaded sleeve 8, held in place by the lug 15, causes the sleeve 8 to move downwards which, by its taper, forces the notched part 7 of the ring 6, acting as a tightening tassel, to block the corresponding part of the sphere.
To modify the position of the whole of the head, it suffices to move the threaded ring 17 in the opposite direction and the head (5-6) is sufficiently blocked for the assembly to be able to move and resume a new position. sition.
As the lifting mechanism of the bridge described above, a jack 2 has been chosen in this embodiment, the tubular piston 1 of which is closed at its lower part by a bottom 20 equipped with a packing 21 under which is exerted the pressure of the pressure fluid used, air, water or oil. The vertical movements of the piston 1 are guided by a rod 22 fixed to the bottom 20 of the latter and sliding in a guide 23 carried by a sleeve 24, which is extended by a tubular cap 25.
