Figure 1 est une vue en coupe axiale du dispositif montrant les organes de l'embrayage en position débrayée;
Figure 2 est une vue identique à la figure 1, montrant ces mêmes organes en position embrayée;
Figure 3 est une vue en coupe transversale suivant la ligne brisée III-III de Fige 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

PRESSURIZED FLUID CONTROLLED DISC CLUTCH DEVICE
The invention relates to clutches and its object is an improved fluid-controlled disk clutch device, which makes it possible to eliminate the complicated control mechanisms used in known devices. We know that these mechanisms, interposed between the clutch itself and the drive shaft, require ball bearings, levers, thrust springs, etc., which cause axial reactions in the transmission and require maintenance and adjustments.
According to: .3'invention, the disc plate of the clutch, which rotates integrally with the driven shaft of the transmission, is pressed between two friction plates under the direct action of a piston sliding in a cylinder with working fluid, concentric, with said friction plates and driven in rotation with them, by the motor shaft.
By way of example, one embodiment of the invention will be described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an axial sectional view of the device showing the clutch members in the disengaged position;
Figure 2 is a view identical to Figure 1, showing these same members in the engaged position;
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view along the broken line III-III of Fig. 1;
Figures 4 and 5 are schematic views of a fluid pressure regulator device for the progressive control of the clutch according to 1-'invention.
As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the plate 6, carrying the friction discs 6a and 6b, is fixed on a hub 7, guided to slide longitudinally in the grooves 8 formed in the outer cylindrical face.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the end of the driven shaft 9 of the transmission.
The shaft 9 rotates in bearings 10a and 10b, provided in the bore 11 of a hub 12 itself rotating in bearings 13a and 13b of a casing 14. On the hub 12 is keyed a crown 15 driven by an angle pinion 16 fixed on the motor shaft 17.
On the flange 18 of the hub 12 is fixed coaxially a cylinder 19 in which slides a piston 20 provided with a seal 21. The head 22 of the piston 20 is provided with radial extensions 23 which extend into windows 24. formed in the wall of the cylinder 19, to obtain the drive of the piston 20, during the rotation of the cylinder 19, as well as of the hub 12 and of the crown 15, under the control of the pinion 16 of the motor shaft 17. The piston 20 has the particularity that its surface 20a in contact with the internal face of cylinder 19 is a part of a sphere, taken astride its equator, and whose radius R is equal to the radius of its cylinder, minus the sliding tolerance .
This feature allows the piston 20 to take inside the cylinder 19 (like a ball joint) all the positions required by the irregular wear of the faces of the discs 6a and 6b of the plate 6.
The piston 20 is maintained normally supported on stops 25 formed in the bottom 26 of the cylinder 19, under the action of tension springs 27, fixed on the one hand at 28 in said piston and on the other hand to pegs 29 engaged in diametrical openings provided in bores 30 formed in the bottom 26 of the cylinder 19. Sealing end caps 31 keep these plugs in position.
The bottom 26 of the cylinder 19 is provided with bearings 32 rotating around a fixed tubing 33 provided for the introduction of hydraulic fluid into the cylinder 19. The shoulder 34, presented by the tubing 33 is supported on the corresponding face. from the edge of the base 26 and form joint by contact between said tubing 33 and said base 26.
It is easy to realize that when, during the rotation of the motor shaft 17 and of the members of the device driven by the latter, the pressure of the fluid introduced into the cylinder 19, will be established in the chamber 35, formed between the piston 20 and the bottom 26 of said cylinder, this piston will be forced axially against the action of the springs 27 and the friction surface formed by the head 22 of the piston 20 will act on the plate 6 with discs 6a and 6b, to make it slide along the splines 8 on the driven shaft 9 and to press it against the friction surface 18a adjacent to the flange 18 of the hub 12, with a force proportional to the value of the pressure developed in the chamber 35 of the cylinder 19, and produce the rotational drive of the plate 6 and of the shaft 9.
Conversely, during the reduction or elimination of the pressure of the fluid in the chamber 35, the piston 20 will be brought back against the stops 25, under the action of the springs 27, while the plate 6, under the action of the spring 36, will be forced against the stop ring 37 fixed on the end of the shaft 9. When the pressure in the chamber 35 is removed, there is therefore never any friction of the friction discs 6a and 6b of the plate. 6, against the friction surfaces 18a and 22.
The fluid-controlled disc clutch device according to the invention therefore has the advantage of eliminating all mechanical controls requiring levers, thrust ball bearings, thrust springs, etc., causing axial reactions and requiring maintenance and lubrication.
In addition, it does not cause any axial reaction at any time, neither during work, nor during the clutch maneuver - the fluid bearing on the bottom 26 of the cylinder 19 integral with the hub 12 - nor during the disengagement maneuver. , not more than when the device is at rest.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The specific pressure of the fluid can be regulated by means of any known fluid distributor device and the resulting pressure on the friction discs will be constant regardless of their wear, or can be made variable, using a pressure regulator to obtain a progressive clutch at the discretion of the operator.
An embodiment of a pressure regulator for the progressive and adjustable control of the clutch according to the invention will be described below with reference to Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings.
In these figures, the regulator comprises a piston 41 sliding in a hollow cylindrical body 42 ′ provided with openings 43 and 44 communicating respectively with a reservoir 45 and with the chamber 35 of the cylinder 19 of the clutch device. The reservoir 45 supplies a pump 46 which delivers the pressurized fluid, for example oil, into the body 42 of the distributor. The piston 41 thereof is integral with a spring 47 which bears on an adjusting nut 48, engaged on the threaded rod of a connecting rod 49. The latter is articulated at 50, to one of the arms 51 of a lever 52, itself articulated at 53, to a fixed support 54, the other arm 55 of this lever carrying a control pedal 56.
The end of the arm 51 of the lever 52 is maintained normally supported on a fixed stop 57, under the action of an appropriate tension spring 58, articulated on the one hand at 59 to the arm 51 and on the other hand at 60 to a fixed support 61.
In the position of the regulator elements shown in Fig. 4, the oil delivered by the pump 46 enters through the opening 44 in the chamber 35 of the cylinder 19 of the clutch device and acts to force the piston 20, against the inaction of the springs 27. when this piston 20 is in contact with it. the discs 6a and 6b of the clutch plate 6, by pressing these discs between the friction surfaces 18a and 22 the oil which continues to be injected by the pump 46 must lift the piston 41 of the distributor by compressing the spring 47 to discover opening 43 and return to tank 45.
The specific pressure of the oil thus obtained will be greater or lesser in the chamber 35 depending on the setting determined beforehand by the nut 48 compressing the spring 47 to a greater or lesser extent.
The disengagement operation is shown in Figure 5. By pressing on the pedal 56, and angularly moving the lever 52, the spring 58 is compressed, while the spring 47 is decompressed until the piston 41 is released from its action, which piston is then pushed back by the oil pressure until completely uncovering the conduit 43. The oil delivered by the pump 46, then passing freely through this conduit 43, to return to the reservoir 45, the oil pressure is canceled out in the chamber 35 of the clutch device and the piston 20 thereof returns to its initial position, under the action of the springs 27 with disengagement of this device.
Between the two extreme angular positions of the pedal 56 (Figs. 4 and 5), all the intermediate positions on the spring 47 determine pressures ranging from zero to the maximum chosen, which gives the oil specific pressures in the same direction, and the clutch piston 20 which receives them applies to the clutch discs 6a and 6b, corresponding progressive, decreasing or stable loads, at the option of the driver.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the fluid-operated clutch device as described and shown in Figures 1 to 3 of the drawings, but that numerous constructive modifications could be made to it without departing from the idea of the invention.
It should also be noted that the invention can be applied with the same advantages to a multiple-disc clutch.
