<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
La fig. 5 représente l'outil de -nontage en position de préassemblage dans lequel le galet 10 va recevoir la coquille 1 introduite à la main dans le corps de matrice 11 par une opératrice qui le pousse à fond de matrice où il reprend sa forme initiale 1 ' figurée en traits mixtes ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to a button in two known elements, a shell and a base, the meeting of which is ensured so as to obtain a better fixation of the fabric in the case where the shell is covered with fabric and a better appearance of the edges in the fabric. the opposite case. It also relates to a tool for rapid assembly of the two constituent elements of the button.
The subject of the invention is a button composed of a shell optionally covered with fabric and of a base, at least one of which is in the shape of a bowl and constitutes of a material sufficiently elastic to allow it to flex under pressure in the direction axial button, characterized in that the shell and the base are respectively integral, one of at least one oil clement substantially parallel
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to the axis and the other as many conjugate female elements intended to engage by sliding and provided with conjugate stop means making it possible to immobilize them in a relative position generating a pressurized support of the [shell and of the base, at least at certain points close to their periphery.
Pressurized support allows; in the case of a button covered with fabric, a very effective pinching of the fabric between the shell and the base.
If the shell is bare, the pressure developed between the two elements gives the button the appearance of a molded button while allowing a significant saving in material in its production.
The tool intended to ensure the assembly of the elements of the button according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises, on the one hand, an assembly composed of a die body intended to receive, with gentle friction, the shell having its concavity towards the introduction opening and resting on a shaped roller whose concavity is studied according to that of the shell and, on the other hand, a set-composed of a centering sleeve capable of sliding in the body of the die and intended to receive the base with gentle friction, in the direction corresponding to the assembly and of a pestle slidably mounted in the centering sleeve and arranged so as to drive it during its movement in the direction of the die, so that the sliding of the ram assembly in the die assembly has the effect, first, of
to ensure the co-axiality of the base and the shell, then, to engage the male element in the female element up to a position allowing the locking of the shell and the base.
Some embodiments of the invention are shown by way of example in the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a view in section, in assembled position, of the button, the shell of which is covered with fabric, FIG. 2 is a similar view of the shell, FIG. 3 is a similar view of the base, FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view showing the deformed shell

14 is a sectional view of a button whose shell imprisons le'tissu on a rigid ring, FIGS. 15 and 16 show in section an embodiment in which the cutout for fixing the button is made if the base, FIG. 17 shows in section an embodiment in which the fixing of the button is obtained by interposing a canvas between male and female elements in stop engagement, and FIG. 18 shows another way of fixing the button.
The assembled button shown in section in FIG. 1 comprises a shell 1, a base 2 and a covering fabric 3, clamped between shell 1, and base 2.
The shell 1 (Fig. 2) comprises a shank 4, the end part of which constitutes the male part of the assembly. This male part is pierced, beyond the stop position, with a cutout 5 and has a boss 6 intended to trap the corresponding edge of the female part of the base after introduction.
The shell 1 is felt in the example with an edge 7 undercut.
The base 2 (fig. 3) comprises, in the vicinity of the bearing face,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
teeth 8 and at its center, a female part 9, of conical shape, intended to pass through the boss 6 of the male part and to come to be wedged by its outer end against said boss 6 during assembly.
To make the base 'penetrate the shell with undercut edges, it is necessary to elastically deform the shell as shown in FIG. 4; the edge 7 of the shell 1 is open until its apparent contour becomes larger than that of the base 2, which corresponds to a determined curvature of the shell, which constitutes the assembly curvature. To achieve this assembly a quick assembly tool wants to be used, although hand assembly is possible.
Fig. 5 shows the -nontage tool in the pre-assembly position in which the roller 10 will receive the shell 1 introduced by hand into the die body 11 by an operator who pushes it to the bottom of the die where it returns to its initial shape 1 ' shown in phantom;
the tube 12 then descends by sliding inside the body of the matrix so as to open the edges of the horned shell shown in FIG. 4, by elastic deformation under the pressure exerted by the tube, while the base 2 introduced beforehand with gentle friction into the tube is pressed by the pestle 13 in the direction of the shell so as to engage the male and female conjugate elements. fig. 6 represents in assembly bostion the various elements of the preceding figure:
the tube 12 has slid in the die 11 and the pestle 13 has slid in the tube 12 so as to pass the boss 6 to the base 2 which is at this moment beyond the stop position. fig. 7 shows the withdrawal of the roller from the rest of the tool which allows the release of the assembled button, in which the base is locked on the shell by the stop means, in the stop position, that is to say in the example, by wedging the outer edge of the female part 9 of the base 2 against the boss 6 of the shank 4 of the shell 1. The boss 6 is a fixed stop.
A movable stop not shown on the tail 4 devoid of boss, is} constituted by a pin,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
or a clips, or any other known means.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show that the lower edge of the die has, at the base juxing the roller 10, a recess 14 intended to receive the undercut edge 7 of the shell 1 when the tube 12 presses the shell towards the bottom. bottom, and in applying the outer face thereof against the roller 10, in the position of elastic deformation shown in FIG. 4.
In these same figures the edge 15 of the pestle 13 is chamfered in such a way that it can, after the Tail 4 has been threaded into the female orifice 9 of the base, up to beyond the stop position,. if necessary, fold back the edges of the boss 6 to perform an additional crimping, reinforcing the fixing of the base in a non-removable button; radial openings 16 allow the passage of pins (not shown) intended either to fold the fabric before presentation of the base, in the buttons coated with fabric, or to allow the establishment of a stop piece pushed by a brooch.
The use of this tool allows in particular with an elastic shell, as in the example, the use of covering fabrics of any thickness for the same inside diameter of the shell.
The f ig. 8, 9, 10 and 11 show the production of buttons in which the contact between the base and the shell at the peripheral part or at a part close to the periphery, is made on surfaces contributing to the correct relative centering of the two parts. , independent of the exact position of the male part and of the female part which engages to assemble the button.
Fig. 10 in particular shows an embodiment in which the rim of the cup is received in a tongue-and-groove assembly which enables the two-piece button to have the same finished appearance as a one-piece button.
Fig. 12 shows an embodiment of the shell and of the base comprising respectively projections (17 ', 17), terminated by teeth and maintaining the fabric extremely strong faoon by a baffle effect.
Fig. 13 shows the same embodiment as FIG. 12 but before assembly of the base 2 comprising two baffles 17, on a shell
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
also comprising two baffles 17 'arranged so as to interpose between the previous ones in the assembly position. This baffle construction allows, in the case of the coated button, to effectively tension and completely trap the fabric, and further, by using a base with a thinned bearing face, to obtain a total coverage of the fabric. by the base, giving the same appearance as that of a glued button, while masking the discontinuity of the assembly.
Fig. 14 shows an embodiment of a button in which the elastic effect of the plug 1 is used to press the fabric 3 on a rigid ring 18 placed inside the undercut edges 7 of the shell while the base 2 presses both on the ring 18 and on the shell, keeping the fabric trapped by the pressure existing between the bearing faces. This realization also offers the finished appearance of the glued button.
Fig. 15 shows an embodiment of a button in which the shell 1 has a short shank 21 carrying a male fixing device on which is taken the female fixing device 22 of the base 19 which carries the perforated hole 20.
Fig. 16 similarly shows an embodiment in which the shell 1 carries a female part 26 which grips the male part 25 of the assis.nblage, carried by the base 23, which is then pierced with the perforation 24 for fixing the button.
Fig. 17 shows an embodiment in which the button is fastened not by a cutout but by a canvas, wedged between the male part and the female part of the assembly, secured respectively to the shell 1 and the base 22, in this case , the tail 28 of the shell is devoid of adjourned, and the canvas 29 protrudes so that it can be sewn onto the fabric. This projection is obtained by simple adjustment on the tool described above, exceeding the stop position in the descent of the pestle pressing the base into the shell.
Finally, fig. 18 shows another embodiment of the fastening of the button on the fabric, in lanuelle a female part 30 integral with the tail of the shell (in the example) or of the base (not shown) indifferently, is attached to a male bar 31 integral with a stud 32; laprtie 31 pierces the tissue like a staple, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
is housed in the cavity made for this purpose in the tail 30 of the shell.
The part 31 can be constituted by the tail of a button of the type described above, the base of which then constitutes the heel 32, which allows to have on both sides of the same fabric a button according to the invention. with a male part 31 passing through the fabric, the other with a female part 30. This embodiment is particularly interesting for the fixing of the buttons, which are also interchangeable on the reversible garments.
