Description

The present invention relates to a bracelet clasp comprising at least one leaflet. It is known that foldable bracelet clasps do not offer all the desirable security against inadvertent opening of the clasp, for example when during a movement of the arm, the bracelet hangs somewhere.

Consequently, the object of the present invention is to produce a bracelet clasp comprising at least one leaflet, offering great security against inadvertent opening when the bracelet is worn. In addition, the clasp must be able to be used for metallic or leather bracelets and, at least in certain embodiments, allow an extra-flat execution of the bracelet. To achieve this object, the clasp according to the invention is produced as described in the characterizing part of claim 1. Claim 3 describes an embodiment for a metallic bracelet with triple leaflet, claim 5 an embodiment for a leather strap and claim 7 a third embodiment of the clasp.

In the closed position of the cover, when the leaflets are folded down on the base, this laterally folded cover immobilizes either a thin end portion of the ends of the strands of the metal bracelet, or means provided on a lateral face of a loop receiving one of the strands of the leather strap of the second embodiment, by strongly pressing these parts, resp. these means against the base. This gives great security against any untimely opening of the clasp. By the fact that in the first embodiment, the closed cover does not trap the metallic strands or the leaflets of the bracelet between it and the base, but only a thin terminal part of these strands, the height of the clasp in closed condition is less than twice the thickness of the strands of the bracelet, which allows an extra-flat execution of the clasp used for a bracelet with triple leaflet.

Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of the clasp according to the invention. This clasp is designed to lock a metal bracelet with triple leaflets 1, 2 and 3, the free ends of the leaflets 1 and 3 being articulated to the last links 4 and 5 of the strands of the bracelet. As indicated in FIG. 1, the articulation of the leaflets 1 and 3 to the strands of the bracelet is produced by an axis supported between the branches 8 of a stair-shaped part 6 articulated itself at the end of the last link 4 or 5 of the bracelet strands. The part 6 has a thin part 7 on the underside of which are fixed the arms 8 supporting the hinge pin. The length of the thin part 7, measured in the direction of the axis of articulation, is greater than the distance between the external faces of the branches 8, so that the ends 7 ′ of the thin part 7 project towards the outside, resp. to the left and to the right with respect to the branches 8 between which the leaflet is articulated.

When the leaflet 1 and / or 3 is folded over the central part 2, it engages in the opening 9 between the branches 2 ′ of the part 2 and the lateral branches 8 engage in a T-shaped housing 10 from the base 11 of the clasp. In this folded-down condition of the leaflets, and as indicated in FIG. 3, the ends 7 ′ of the thin part come to rest on the base 11, on either side of the lateral ends of the opening 10 which prevents the leaflets to rotate further. To lock the bracelet in the closed condition described above, it then suffices to close the cover 12 on the base 11 to which it is articulated. It is noted that, relative to the longitudinal direction of the strands of the bracelet, the cover 12 folds laterally on the base 11. In the folded down condition of the cover 12, the folded end 13 of the latter engages with notch (see fig. .3) with the end 14 of the base 11. Such a fixing is extremely safe in that the leaflets 1 and 3 are firmly pressed and held against the base 11 by the thin parts 7, themselves strongly pressed against this base by cover 12 folded down and closed with notches. The "pull-out" torque C indicated in fig.2, seeking to spread the folded leaflets is extremely high, which prevents any untimely opening of the bracelet by pulling on the strands thereof. It is visible that the closed cover does not trap any strand or link of the bracelet, but only the thin parts 7 of the piece 6, so that the height of the clasp in closed condition is less than twice the thickness of each strand, which allows an extra-flat execution.

Figures 4 to 6 show a second embodiment in which the clasp allows the strands of a leather strap to be locked. FIG. 4 shows a strand 20 of a leather bracelet articulated at the base 21 of the clasp, this base comprising two branches 22 at the end of which a leaflet 23 is articulated. The clasp also comprises a cover 24 articulated on one side of the base 21, so that with respect to the longitudinal direction of the strands of the bracelet, the cover folds laterally on the base. FIG. 4 shows a loop 25 provided for receiving the second leather strand 26 of the bracelet. The loop 25 comprises a base 27 carrying a stud 28 engaging in one of the openings 29 of the second strand to put the latter in the worn condition of the bracelet. Figure 6 shows that the base 27 of the loop 25 is linked to the free end of the leaflet 23 by a hinge 34. When the second strand 26 is introduced into the loop 25 as illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6 and that it is held by the stud 28 in this loop, the bracelet can be locked by folding the leaflet 23 over the branches 22 of the base 21, this leaflet 23 engaging between the branches 22 of the base 21 and the articulation of length greater than the width of the leaflet engaging in an opening 35 of the base 21. In the folded position of the leaflet, the lateral ends of the loop 25 are placed next to the wall 30 (fig.1) of the base 21, in the thickness of the latter. As shown in Figure 4, the loop has a tongue 31 mounted on the side face facing the clasp of the joint 34. In the folded position of the leaflet 23, this protruding tongue is applied to the base 21, next to the opening 35. In the locked position, the cover 24 is folded down on the base 21 and its end 32 engages with notch with the end 33 of the base. The folded cover presses strongly on the tongue 31 and keeps it firmly against the base, which prevents any untimely opening of the bracelet in worn condition.

Figures 7 to 10 show a third embodiment of the clasp according to the invention. In the embodiments according to Figures 1 and 4, the cover 12, resp. 24 closes with notch (13,14; 32,33) on the base (11,21) of the clasp. This solution, which is easy to carry out in manufacturing, has the drawback, however, that after a few thousand manipulations, the notched hooking becomes tired due to wear due to metal against metal friction. The embodiment according to Figures 7 to 10 does not have this defect.

A pusher 43 is slidably mounted in the base 41, on the side opposite that of the articulation of the cover 42 provided with a clearance 44 in its folded part 45. FIGS. 7, 8 and 10 show that the pusher 43 has a U shape with an upper part 46 and a lower part 47. The lower part comprises on each side a folding 48 which engages in a groove 49 of the base 41, which keeps the pusher in place. The groove 49 is wider than the folds 48, which allows lateral movement of the pusher in the two directions indicated by the arrow F in FIG. 7. In the rest state, a spring 50 acts on the pusher so as to force the latter to maintain itself in the outermost position. When the cover 42 is folded down on the base 41, the ends 51 of the folded part come to face the lateral edges 52 of the pusher and, by pressing on the latter, against the force of the spring 50, the ends 51 pass in front of the edges 52 and allow the cover to be folded down entirely on the base 41. This shows that the cover is folded down on the base without notch closure, that is to say without friction. It acts as a lock bolt to lock the cover at the base. By releasing the pusher, the edges 52 engage under the action of the pressure force of the spring 50, in clearances 53 at the inner face of the ends 51 of the folded part 45. The cover is thus held in its position folded down on the base. It is visible that the third embodiment does not have the defects due to the wear of the parts of the notch closure, but that the closure is done without friction thanks to the presence of the pusher 43 and its return spring 50 .

The above shows that the clasp according to the invention can be used for several types of metal or leather bracelets and that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described.
