EMI1.1
dans laquelle :
Ar, R1, R11, R111 et RIV ont la signification sui- vante :
- Ar désigne un radical aromatique, simple ou substi- tué par un ou plusieurs substituants., ces substi- tuants pouvant être des groupes NO2, des halogènes, des groupes OH (libres, estérifiés ou éthérifiés), des groupes NH2 (libres, salifiés ou substitués par des radicaux àlcoyle ou acyle), des groupes COOH (libres ou estérifiés par des radicaux alcoyle); - R1 désigne l'un quelconque des groupes -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO2-, {CH2)n (où n = 1-3), -CO-, -NH- -0 (CH2)xO- (où x = 2-12), -CH2-0-CH2-;

mes ou être différents ou encore être fermés, de ma- nière à former un noyau); - R111 désigne un radical acyle, tel que -00-alcoyle) dans lequel le groupe alcoyle est substitué par un ou plusieurs atomes d'halogènes disposés de manière quel- conque dans la chaine; - RIV désigne de l'hydrogène ou la chaine latérale, tel que -CH2-N-R11 déjà indiquée dans la formule généR111 rale;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to novel nitrogenous organic compounds, as well as to a process for their preparation.
The research carried out by the Applicant has revealed that compounds comprising an aromatic group formed from two aromatic rings linked together and containing, in addition, substituents in the side chain have a strong antiprotozoal activity. The invention relates to the preparation of products of the following general formula:
EMI1.1
in which :
Ar, R1, R11, R111 and RIV have the following meaning:
- Ar denotes an aromatic radical, simple or substituted by one or more substituents, these substituents possibly being NO2 groups, halogens, OH groups (free, esterified or etherified), NH2 groups (free, salified or substituted by alkyl or acyl radicals), COOH groups (free or esterified by alkyl radicals); - R1 denotes any one of the groups -O-, -S-, -SO-, -SO2-, {CH2) n (where n = 1-3), -CO-, -NH- -0 (CH2) xO- (where x = 2-12), -CH2-0-CH2-;
-R11 denotes hydrogen or a lower alkyl radical, simple or substituted, the substituents being, in this case, OH (free, esterified or etherified), SH (free, salified or etherified) groups, halogens or basic groups, such as N (alkyl) 2 '(these alkyl groups possibly being the same
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mes or be different or be closed, so as to form a nucleus); - R111 denotes an acyl radical, such as -00-alkyl) in which the alkyl group is substituted by one or more halogen atoms arranged in any way in the chain; - RIV denotes hydrogen or the side chain, such as -CH2-N-R11 already indicated in the general formula R111;
in this case, the applicant claims products having a symmetrical structure, formed by an aromatic radical and two side chains, as mentioned above.
In this series, products with the following general formula:
EMI2.1
are of particular interest.
For the preparation of these compounds, the following processes are indicated: 1) An aldehyde, such as Ar-RI-Ar-CHO or OHC-Ar-R-Ar-
CHO, where Ar and R1 have the meaning given above) is condensed with an amine, such as R11-NH2 and the resulting Schiff's base is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation. The secondary amine thus obtained, or a salt thereof, is reacted with an acylating agent, substituted by halogens in the alkyl radical.
Anhydrides, chlorides or esters of aliphatic organic acids containing one or more halogens in the alkyl radical, or the acids themselves, can be used under suitable conditions; in the case of the di- - 3 -
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
chloroacetylation also pentachioroacetone or chloral and its derivatives can be used.
EMI3.1
2) An alkyl halide, such as Ar-R'-Ar-OH2 Cl or C1-CHZ-Ar-Rl-Ar-.CH2-Cl, is reacted with an amine, such as R11-NH2, in carrying out the reaction so as to obtain a secondary amine, which is then acylated as described above under 1).
EMI3.2
3) An amine, such as Ar-RI-Ar-CH2-NH2 or NH2-CH2-Ar-RIAr-CH2-NH2, is reacted with an alkylene oxide, such as, for example, ethylene or propylene oxide, or with an alkyl halide, such as R -halogen, then the resulting secondary amine is acylated as described in 1).
In the above-mentioned syntheses, the aromatic group is pre-constituted and the synthesis concerns the introduction of the side chain. However, many compounds of the above type can be synthesized by first forming the side chain and then suitably condensing the aromatic rings. For purposes of illustration, but not by way of limitation, we describe
