<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
cette rainure le tube 1, puis enfin, à l'aide de deux outils et .2. actionnas mécaniquement, de toute façon appropriée;
L'avantage essentiel du procédé selon l'invention
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The present invention relates to a method for fixing a tube on a support slap. The invention is also aimed at the applications of said method and, more particularly, that relating to the manufacture of heat exchanger or similar apparatus.
It is known that most heat exchangers and, in particular, evaporators and condensers for refrigeration devices
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Gorific household or industrial, comprise a tubular bundle produced, for example, by means of a tube wound in a coil or otherwise, this tube having to be in close contact with a support plate. It is also known that for the manufacture of such heat exchangers it has already been proposed to implement various processes. 1 making it possible to no longer use expensive metals, such as copper and stainless steel, but aluminum or aluminum-based alloys, which are cheaper.
Among the known methods, there exists more particularly one which will be described in more detail below and which essentially consists in fixing the tube by crimping on its support plate, so that, over the entire length of the tube. portion of the tube which is crimped, there is close contact between the surface of the support plate and the outer surface of said portion of tube.
The subject of the invention is a process similar to that which has just been indicated, but which provides, over the known process, various advantages of very particular importance for the manufacture of evaporators for refrigerating cabinets.
The method according to the invention,-according to which the tube is fixed, in the known manner, by crimping in a groove formed in the: support plate, is characterized in that it consists in forming in the plate- support one or more parallel U-shaped grooves whose branches are double-walled, to accommodate in each groove a tube or one of the rectilinear portions of a tubular coil, then to mechanically deform the branches aforementioned so that, on the one hand, the internal face of each internal wall partially matches the corresponding part of the external periphery of the '.

tube and, on the other hand, the inner face of each outer wall conforms to the outer face of the inner wall at.
contact with the tube.

Fig. 2-is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, the tube being crimped.
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view similar to that of FIG. 1, illustrating the method according to the invention.
La'fig. 4 is a view similar to the shovel of FIG. 3, the tube being crimped.
Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of an evaporator for a refrigeration cabinet produced by the second method.
Ion the invention.,. Fig. 6 is a profile view corresponding to that of the. fig.
Fig. 7 is a plan view corresponding to that of FIG.

Fig. 8 is a partial view, in section along VIII-VIII of FIG. 7.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a tube, of any material, suitable for use in any type of heat exchange apparatus for the circulation of a heating or refrigerant fluid, and 2 a plate. -support, in any material liable to be mechanically deformed and to which the tube 1 must be fixed.
Reference will now be made to FIGS. 1 and 2 which illustrate the known process for fixing the tube 1 by crimping onto the support plate 2, this process consisting in forming, on the plate 2, a groove 3 U-shaped, to be housed in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
this groove the tube 1, then finally, using two tools and .2. actuated mechanically, in any appropriate way;
in deforming the two vertical walls 6 and 2 of the groove 3, so that these walls, as results from FIG. 2, come to closely match the entire outer periphery of the tube 1 which is thus housed inside a casing of practically circular section formed in the plate 2.
The main drawback of an evaporator for a refrigerated cabinet produced by the known process which has just been indicated is that the water, which can accumulate at the place indicated by the arrow in FIG. 2, causes, when it freezes, the opening of the envelope formed by the walls .6 and 7, so that the outer periphery of the tube 1 is no longer in close contact with the internal face. Of the walls 6 and 2- It follows that the heat exchange between the fluid circulating in the tube 1 and the plate 2 takes place under bad conditions. here..
@
As regards the method according to the invention, which is illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, it differs from the known method described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, nar the fact that each wall of the groove formed in the plate 2. has two parallel portions 6 and 6 'and 7 and 7', respectively, so that after deformation by the tools 4 and ¯5 the inner face of the portions 6. and ß is in contact with the outer periphery of the tube 1, while the inner face of the portions 6 'and 7' is in close contact with the outer face of the corresponding portions 6 and 2.
Preferably, the height of the two walls of the groove is determined so that after deformation of these walls a portion of the outer wall of the tube 1 remains bare, as can be seen from FIG. 4.
The essential advantage of the method according to the invention
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
which has just been described is that, in the case of an evaporator for a refrigerated cabinet, the water which can accumulate at the places indicated by the arrows in FIG. 4 has a tendency, on freezing, to separate the walls 6 and 6 'and Z and, respectively, from one another, which has the consequence of applying more strongly the internal face of the portions 6 and 2. against the outer periphery of tube 1, resulting in a more intense heat exchange between the liquid circulating in tube 1 and support plate 2.
Another advantage of this method is that the bottom of the groove 3 is located approximately at the same level as the rectilinear parts of the support plate 2, which further increases the cooling efficiency of an evaporator.
Finally, it should be pointed out that 'the process' according to the invention makes it possible to use, for the manufacture of an evaporator for a refrigerated cabinet, a support plate 2 of small thickness, as well as than a thin tube 1, but of large diameter, any risk of this tube crushing when bent, even along very small radii of curvature, being eliminated. because it is firmly held by the double walls 6, 6 'and 7 and 7' of the grooves formed in the support plate 2.
With regard to figs 5 to b, they illustrate-, by way of example, the application of the process described with regard to figs 3 and 4 to the manufacture of an evaporator for a refrigeration cabinet of the household or industrial type. .
It should however be understood that the invention is not limited to this particular application, but that on the contrary it encompasses all the industrial applications of said process which can be used whenever necessary, in a heat exchanger apparatus. heat of any kind, to fix
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
a tube of any material or section, traversed by a fluid (liquid or gas) heating or cooling, on a support plate of a material identical or different from that used for the manufacture of the tube.
On said figs 5 to 8, the reference .8 designates the support plate on which are crimped, by the method illustrated in Figs 3 and 4, the portions 2 normally in contact with the support plate of a tube 10 wound in coil in the known manner.
