<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
A.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
This invention relates to a device for supporting, in a vertical position, cycles, motorcycles or similar vehicles.
Apart from the general aim which we have just considered, the invention also aims at the possibility of housing motorcycles in a very limited space without having to spare, in height and in width, that is to say above and sideways to the vehicle, a sufficient gap to allow access for the user accompanying the vehicle. the.
In a very particular way, the invention makes it possible to park motorcycles and to arrange them one beside the other with the possibility of removing, in spite of this arrangement, any of these vehicles with the greatest ease. *
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention also makes it possible to accommodate the vehicle in a protective shelter having very limited dimensions and such as the height. of this shelter corresponds substantially to the height of the vehicle.
The device according to the invention is essentially characterized by support means presented by a base and coacting with the lower parts of the vehicle with a view to maintaining the latter in a vertical position.
Said base comprises a few lifting members capable of engaging with the lower parts provided on the two sides of the vehicle, for example the footrests, with a view to lifting said vehicle and maintaining it in a stable position.
This base has the shape of a rail and comprises elements with deformable parallelograms, the upper parts of which engage with the footrests or any other similar part of the vehicle.
According to the invention, the movable elements of the deformable parallelogram are interconnected and comprise means for their control, actuated by the combined action of the weight and the force of inertia of the moving vehicle, when the latter joins the desired position.
The invention will, moreover, be better understood in the course of the following description with reference to the appended drawings and concerning certain embodiments of the device as well as variations and modifications thereof, said description and drawings being given by way of reference. purely illustrative, in no way limiting, of the scope of the invention.
In the drawings: Figures 1, 2 and 3 show, in a basic fashion and in side elevation, three embodiments of the device applied to a shelter for a single vehicle.
Figures 4 and 5 show two other embodiments of the device.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure o shows a modification of the device according to Figure 2.
FIGS. 7, 8 and 9 show complementary members of the device, capable of being fixed to the vertical bottom wall and to the side walls, as well as to the bottom wall or floor.
Figure 10 shows a side elevation of another embodiment of the device, which supports a motorcycle shown in its initial approached position (figure in white ') and in its final or rest position (figure in black).
Figures 11 and 12 show, on a larger scale and in side elevation, the device shown in Figure 14, respectively in its initial and final positions.
Figure 13 is a plan thereof, and Figure 14 is a cross section thereof, while Figure 15 illustrates the member for resiliently retaining the handlebars of the vehicle.
Figures 16 to 19 show, finally, other embodiments of the vehicle handlebar retaining members.
With reference to FIG. 1, the device is constituted, in its simplified form, by one or two supports M, which coact with the ground of 1.'abri A which serves to house the vehicle.
These supports provide two inclined planes N, with which the footrests D of the vehicle engage, when the latter is introduced into the shelter.
The supports M are fixed to the floor of the shelter A so that they can be moved along the axis of said shelter, with a view to being able to be adapted to the different types of vehicles.
In the variant according to FIG. 2, the support M can slide on the lateral guides P, tiltable upwards, so that, when the vehicle is introduced into the shelter, at least one of the two wheels B, C are raised and removed from the ground.
This result can be obtained in an equivalent manner if the floor of the shelter is inclined towards the back wall, as well as
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is indicated by the dotted line in Figure 2.
In the variant according to FIG. 3, the support M is made in the form of a sliding carriage on the guides P which extend outside the shelter A.
The vehicle is placed beforehand on the carriage M and held in a vertical position by a support bracket Q or by any other means which may possibly be constituted by a carrying member (by the vehicle itself, so as to be able to be introduced into shelter A.
According to Figures 4 and 5, the vehicle is retained in the shelter A in a vertical position using the supports R, which coact with the sides of the wheel or wheels B and C.
In the case of figure 4, the supports R are presented by the floor of the shelter A, while in that of figure @ these supports are carried by the back wall, so as to be able to retain the. front wheel B at a certain height.
At least one of these supports can be adjustable in the transverse direction, with a view to producing a groove dela desired width, capable of corresponding to the width of the wheels presented by the different types of vehicles.
Especially in the case of figure 4. it is not to be excluded that one of the supports can be movable in the transverse direction, with the intervention of suitable controls, the actuation of which makes it possible to tighten the wheel or wheels of the vehicle between the supports R, so as to secure the vehicle in the desired position.
The device illustrated in figure 6 is similar to that of figure 2, with the difference that the guides P fixed to the ground; of the shelter A. are folded downwards and in contact with grooved rollers P1 'which the lower ends of the arm P2 At its upper part, each arm P2 ends with a bracket P3 capable of coming into contact with the upper part of the footrest D that the vehicle has.
In this variant, the guides P are provided inclined in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the proper direction to lower towards the back wall of the shelter. In this way, when the vehicle is introduced into the shelter, the arms P2 push the wheels of the vehicle towards the ground, keeping the latter in a vertical position.
The arms P2 can be provided to be adjustable according to the different types of commercial vehicles. In addition, these arms can each be constituted by a mesh which slides stably on the guide rails P, so that the stirrups P3 are placed in a suitable position to ensure their contact with the support. foot D of the vehicle.
In order to guide the vehicle into shelter A, the present invention provides for the installation of a guide member S (see FIG. 7) on the wall opposite to that of access, which, as of the illustrated case, consists of a plurality of elements nested in the other or produced in pantograph, the free end of which ends in a bracket 31 which can come into contact with the front part of the vehicle, for example with the handlebar tube.
The guide member S can be combined with spring means in order to promote the extraction of the vehicle from the shelter
AT.
According to FIG. 8, the vehicle is held in a vertical position using the arms T comprising at their end the hinges
T1 'which serve to connect them to the side walls of shelter A.
The free ends of these arms come into contact, when they are reversed, with a part of the vehicle, for example with the saddle G, in order to keep the vehicle in the worm position. tical.
It is obvious that the arms T can be made in such a way as to be able to vary their length according to the different types of vehicle.
To keep the vehicle in a vertical position, it is also provided, according to the present invention, the presence of a support trestle. Q port, usually carried by the vehicle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As seen in Figure 9, this trestle is connected to a control consisting, for example, by a rope Q1 connected, on one side to said head and, on the other side, to a lever accessible to the user, so that after having established the union between the rope Q1 and the support trestle Q, the vehicle can be introduced into the shelter A and, after the lowering of the trestle, the vehicle can be held in position. vertical position.
According to the variant shown in Figures 10 to 15, the device comprises a base, consisting of two longitudinal members 10, 12 of suitable length, corresponding substantially to that of the vehicle and connected to one another by means of sleepers 14 which press on the ground.
The opposite inner sides of the side members 10,12 are suitably profiled (see figure 14). so as to form a groove, the walls of which converge towards the bottom and the bottom of which is constituted by the upper faces of the traverses 14. In this groove are housed and aligned the wheels B, C of the vehicle.
To this base are fixed pairs of supports 16,18 suitably spaced between them, in which are housed the respective shafts 20, 22 ...
At the end of these shafts are fixed two pairs of and arms 24/27, the ends of which are joined together in an articulated manner by means of journals 30,32 and longitudinal bars 34,36.
These parts form a double system of articulated and deformable parallelograms, capable of constituting a lifting means for the purpose indicated below.
On the front shaft 22 (taking into consideration the position of the vehicle shown in figure 10) is directly or indirectly fixed a bracket 38, the middle part of which is arranged transversely to the side members 10, 12 c ' that is to say on the path of the 'wheel B of the vehicle.
In addition, the ends of the stirrup 38 have extensions 40, of suitable length, suitably bent for strength.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
mer an angle with the arms of said stirrup, so as to assume the position shown in Figures 11 and 12.
The longitudinal bars 34, 36 are provided of suitable length and such that they can contact any part normally projecting from both sides of the vehicle.
In the case of motorcycles, these parts can be made. advantageously killed by the D footrests, presented laterally by the vehicle. However, it cannot be ruled out that the longitudinal bars 34, 36 (possibly combined with auxiliary support members) may come into contact with the frame or with the lower parts of the vehicle, in the manner which will be explained below.
The device which we have just described is completed by means for resiliently retaining the front wheel B of the vehicle in a position aligned with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, which at the same time makes it possible to obtain some adjustment possibility.
This in order to avoid the contrary effect due to the property. self-correcting tee, characteristic of the front and steering forks of vehicles and motorcycles in general,
As can be seen in FIG. 15, these means are constituted by simple tie rods 50, 52, one end of which ends in a loop 54, which can be engaged on the handles of the handlebar F.
The other two ends meet together and are connected to the end of an elastic means 56, for example, a spring or any other similar member. This elastic member ends with a possibly adjustable hook 58 which can be fixed to one of the rear parts of the vehicle, for example to the saddle G.
In this way, the front wheel B of the vehicle is kept automatically aligned with the rear wheel C and it can perform only limited oscillations.

The operation of the device, or more exactly the positioning and extraction of the vehicle in and out of the shelter, respectively, is carried out as follows.
The device is normally in the position shown in Figure 1, that is, with the yoke 38 raised and with the longitudinal bars 34,36 lowered.
In this position, the extensions 40 of the bracket 38 constitute a stop, because they are in contact with the corresponding cross member 14.
: The vehicle is placed on the platform made by the elements 10,12,14, and its wheels are directed towards the groove formed by the side members 10,12.
This operation can be carried out by the user who is near the rear end of the device, that is to say without him being next to the vehicle near the handlebar F.
This is because the wheels of the vehicle are guided laterally, either by the inulin-like walls of the side members 10, 12, or by the tie rods (figure 15).
In addition, even if the vehicle is left on its own, it is still prevented from overturning due to the two longitudinal bars (in the lowered position), one of which would engage with the vehicle's footrest on the "reversal" side.
When the front wheel B of the vehicle comes into contact with the middle part of the caliper 38, the latter is pushed, under the effect of the live force imparted by the user to the vehicle, downwards in the position 38 shown in FIG. 12.
In this way the rotation of the arms 24, 26 and the resulting deformation of the articulated parallelograms is achieved, so that the longitudinal bars 34, 36 which constitute the upper side of the parallelograms, are raised to a maximum height and reach the maximum height. position shown in figure 12.
While the bars are moving, they come into contact with the supports = foot D or with any other equivalent part
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
of the vehicle, so that it is moved forward, lifted and retained in an upright position by virtue of this engagement.
The double articulated parallelogram system previously considered is held in a stable manner in the raised position, due to the fact that the arms 24, 26 have passed the vertical and that the stirrup 38 comes into contact, on landing, with the head cross member, in order to automatically guarantee the stability of the device when it supports the vehicle.
To get the vehicle out of the device, the user will lower the longitudinal bars 34, 36 and act directly on the vehicle in the opposite direction to the previous one.
The system of double parallelograms will appear in this way deformed in the opposite direction to the previous one and the parallelograms will again assume the initial position shown in figure 11.
The vehicle will then rest, by a combined movement of lowering and receding of its two wheels, on the bottom of the groove formed by the side members 10,12 and thus give a beginning to the disengagement and disengagement phase. device extraction.
This operation can also be carried out by fixing the end 58 of the tie rods 50, 52.
As for the operation of placing the vehicle on the dis. positive, the removal operation is done with the same ease, the user being at the rear end of the device.
According to the different embodiments of said device, especially according to the shapes illustrated in Figures 1, 2, 6, 8 and, these variants of the device require, for proper operation, to be completed by the reins or tie rods shown in Figure 15, called to retain the direction of the vehicle in an elastic manner,
Figures 16 to 19 illustrate some variations of the pulls according to figure 15.
At station 16, the elastic retaining members or rein @ for the handlebars F consist of tie rods 60,62, the ends of which are connected on one side in a removable manner (for example
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
by means of pliers or staples) to the middle part of the handlebar F, @ an- say that the other ends connect to the slides 64,66, which slide along the rails 68,70 'fixed to the side walls of the h- bri.
In the variant according to FIG. 17, the tie rods 60a, 62a are connected on one side (by means of caps, clamps, or similar members) to the ends of the handlebar F, and of. the other side to the sliders 64a, 66a, which slide along the guide rails 68a, 70a, fixed to the roof of the shelter
In this variant are provided counter-tie rods 72, 74 which, originating respectively from the sliders 64a, 66a, are attached by their other end to the middle part of the handlebar.
It is 'obvious that, in this case, it can be provided in only one guide rail, arranged in' an average position with respect to the two rails that we have just considered,
so that this rail is posed along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
In this case, the upper ends of the tie rods 60a, 62a will be connected to a single slide, and a single counter tie 72 will also be provided.
It is obvious that the guide rails 68a, 70a, can be (in this case also) inclined downwards corresponding to the access opening of the shelter, in order to facilitate the introduction. of the vehicle in it, and to keep the vehicle raised from the ground, when it is introduced into the shelter.
Figure 18 shows a double wishbone tie rod system.
The tie rods 60b, 62b have at their ends, on one side, a clamp or clip 58b, which can be fixed to the saddle G and, on the other side, caps 54b which can be threaded on the ends. handlebar F.
These caps are also connected the ends of the cons. tie rods 72b, 74b arranged so as to cross and terminate at
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
their other end by slides 64,66b coacting with the respective guide rails 68b, 70b.
It follows that the vehicle is held in a stable manner and can slide in the shelter along the guides formed by the ready rails previously considered.
In the variant according to FIG. 19, the handlebar coordination and stabilization members consist of a crossbar 71, provided with clamps 74, for fixing the handlebar.
The crosspiece 71 is fixed, at its two ends, to the two parallel prions 76 of an endless rope which winds on the pairs of pulleys 78,80,82, arranged so that the two portions 76 move in the same way.
The journals of the pulleys which we have just considered are parallel and are fixed to the ceiling of the shelter, so as not to hinder the movements of the vehicle.
It should be noted that the handlebar adjustment members according to Figures 16 to 19 make it possible to completely eliminate the supporting action of the part of the device which comes into contact with the footrests or with the wheels of the vehicle, causes that the tie rods which we have just described keep the vehicle in a vertical position while maintaining alignment with respect to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle itself.
The advantages that can be achieved by the device dice. written above and illustrated in the drawings are obvious. Apart from the possibility of sheltering the vehicle in a very limited space in height and width, we have the advantage that the wheels of the vehicle are practically not in contact with the ground, while the shock absorbers and the vehicle's spring system is largely unloaded from the weight of the vehicle.
Other variations and modifications are applicable to the said positive in question. Thus, for example, this device could be constituted by two arms 24 or 26 only (FIGS. 11 to 14), interconnected by a journal articulated The free ends of these
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
arms are shaped so as to come into contact with the foot of the vehicle.
The control of the double system of parallelograms can be effected by hydraulic or mechanical means, arranged in a suitable position with respect to the device. This parallelogram system can optionally be mounted directly on the ground and not on the base formed by the side members 10, 12 and by the bushings 14, since the tie rods of FIG. 6 could be responsible for keeping them aligned. the wheels of the vehicle during the work
Depending on the construction characteristics of the vehicle, the width of the arms 21F, 26 or the height of the bars 34, 36 can be modified in order to obtain the desired conditions for the restraint of the vehicle.
The bracket 38, which automatically controls the deformable parallelogram, can be constituted, in an equivalent manner, by an inclined plane hinged to the front end of the base and connected by means of references to the movable part of said parallelogram.
In this way, when the wheel of the vehicle comes into contact with the inclined plane, the latter lowers in the direction proper to its alignment with the plane of the base and thereby actuates the parallelogram.
In addition, the device can be incorporated into a shelter of very limited dimensions, allowing only the entry of the vehicle, while the operations of removing and introducing it into said shelter can be done by the user, who is the exterior of this shelter.
