valve pour pneus sans chambre à air.
La présente invention se,rapporte à une tige de valve en caoutchouc et particulièrement une tige de valve en caoutchouc à utiliser avec une jante et un pneu sans chambre à air;

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

@@ massaging under the action of the inflation air pressure on the base of the valve to ensure the airtightness of the valve hole under all operating conditions.
To fully understand the invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawing in which
Figure 1 is a cross section of a rim with tubeless tire, showing in elevation the valve stem according to the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section of the valve stem according to the invention.
FIG. 3 is a section similar to that of FIG. 2, of another, the embodiment of the invention.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the valve stem shown in Figure 1, partially inserted into the valve hole of the rim.
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the valve stem shown in Figure 1 in place in the valve hole of the rim, tire inflated, showing in broken lines the position of the valve before the tire is inflated.
Figure 6 is a sectional view of the valve stem shown in Figure 3, in place on a rim.
In figure 1 of the drawing, the number 1 indicates a rim on which is mounted a tubeless tire 2. The rim 1 has a valve hole 3 of standard dimensions through which protrudes the valve stem, indicated as a whole by the number 4 .. The rod 4 has an axial hole in which is engaged and welded, substantially over the entire length of the rod, a metal valve body 5. The outer end of the body 5 protrudes from the rod 4 and carries a net ? to receive a cap, not shown. The interior of the metal body 5 is threaded at 8 to receive an ordinary valve valve (not shown).
The valve stem 4 has an upper part 9 and a

lower part or base 10, gradually thinning, that is to say, the diameter of which decreases towards the inner end 11 of the metal body 5. A slot 12 extends in a conical plane in the upper part 9, forming a head 13 and a tubular or annular part 14. The tubular part 14 comprises a shoulder 15 whose diameter is considerably larger than that of the neck 16 engaging the periphery of the valve hole 3 of the rim. The shoulder 15 rests on the outer face 17 of the rim adjacent to the valve hole.
The shoulder is relatively thick and; preferably 3 to 6 times thicker than the rim, and therefore forms a relatively rigid positive stop to maintain the valve, in its axial plane with respect to the valve hole, during assembly and ensure that it is perpendicular to the face of the rim.
To maintain a tight seal between the inner periphery of the rim valve hole and the stem, the neck 16, or the tubular part immediately adjacent to the shoulder 15, has a diameter of 18 to 40% greater than the diameter of the rim valve hole 3, The seal at the inner periphery of the rim valve hole 3 and at the outer face 17 of the rim, near hole 3, is ensured by the pressure of the neck 16 and 1 ' shoulder 15, respectively. In addition, as shown in the section in Figure 5, the strong compression of the neck between the periphery of the rim valve hole and the metal body 5 deforms the rubber of the neck and causes it to rest on and around the face. internal rim 18 adjacent to the valve hole.
The rim valve hole is thereby made airtight.
As described above, the groove or slot 12 serves to increase the radial pressure of the neck 16 against the inner periphery of the valve hole 3 of the rim. The slot 12 extends in a conical plane symmetrical with respect to the axis of the body
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
metal 5. The outer face 19 of the head 13 and the inner face 20 of the tubular part 14 are parallel and take the form of truncated cones. The slot 12 extends from a radial plane substantially outside relative to the neck 16 to pass through the thickness of the neck 16 and terminate on a plane substantially inside relative to that of the neck 16. The bottom 21 of slot 12, or the end of the slot having the larger diameter, is lower than neck 16 and is in the same radial plane as the widest part of base 10.
The tubular part 14 is therefore connected so as to form a body with the rod, by a relatively narrow section 22 at the base 21 of the slot 12.
As shown in figure 4 of the drawing, the valve stem is easily fitted onto the rim 1, by hand, by inserting the base 10 into the valve hole 3 ,, from the outside 17 towards. the inside 18 of the rim 1, until the widest part of the base 10 is engaged in the valve hole.
A force is then exerted axially on the upper end of the metal tube 5 or head 13 to pass the base 10 and the neck 16 through the hole 3 and put the neck 16 and the shoulder 15 in place respectively in and around the rim valve hole. As the tubular part 14 is connected to the rod by a relatively thin section of rubber 22 and the friction between the outer face of the tubular part 14 and the periphery of the valve hole 3 of the rim is very high, the rubber at height of section 22 elongates in the axial direction and the diameter of the tubular part 14 is reduced when it passes through the valve hole of the rim, when the shoulder 15 presses on the upper face 17 of the rim around valve hole 3,
the head 13 descends below the level of the end 23 of the tubular part 14 as is shown in solid lines in FIG. 5. When we stop exerting the force necessary for the introduction of the valve in the hole of rim valve,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The rubber hoe stretched from the tubular part 14, and particularly at the height of the section 22, collects axially, thus increasing the pressure exerted at the height of the neck in and around the valve hole of the rim.
While the head 13 passes from the recessed position shown in chain lines in Figure 5, to the position shown in solid lines in Figure 5, its outer face 19 shoulders against the inner face 20 of the tubular part. laire 14, thus reinforcing the pressure of the neck 19 on the periphery of the valve hole 3 of the rim. In addition, when the tire 2 is inflated, the pressure tends to push the head 13 back into the valve hole 3, thus strengthening the wedging of the face 19 of the head 13 against the face 20 of the tubular part 14, thus increasing the thrust of the tire. neck 16 against the periphery of the rim valve hole.
Figure 3 shows a modified embodiment of the invention. Reference numerals denote parts of the shank fulfilling the same functions and similar in construction to the corresponding parts of figure 2. The embodiment shown in figure 3 is similar to that shown in figure 2, except that the neck 16 of the tubular part 14 is defined by shoulders 15 and 24 parallel to each other and forming an acute angle with the radial plane.
In this modified embodiment of the present invention, the shoulder 15 bears against the outer face 17 of the rim 1 and the shoulder 24 bears against the inner face of the rim 1. t
The various embodiments of the invention described and shown solely by way of examples are in no way limiting, modifications can be made to them without departing from the scope of the invention.
