Multi-speed hubs are known for motor cycles, in particular for motorcycles. The change from one gear to another is generally carried out using a linkage, a chain, a cable or similar control. But this command only acts in one direction, therefore for engagement or release, while the operating movement in the opposite direction is produced by springs.
It is further known to produce the maneuvering movement in both directions with the aid of a linkage engaging in the hollow hub and exiting from one side thereof for actuation. This actuating device used for maneuvering is therefore requested either for traction or for thrust, depending on the maneuvering movement of each case.
The disadvantage of this known device is to be seen in its relatively large and complicated construction in that the maneuver actuation must be effected by means of a rack and a pinion or a lever. When springs are used according to the known construction last mentioned, disturbances can easily occur during the maneuver because the movement is not necessarily produced in one direction and therefore the safe engagement of the mechanism depends on the movement of the spring. It can then happen that when the locking claws become worn out, they are no longer fully brought into the extreme position.
But, if the spring is calculated to be much stronger to overcome this drawback in a safe manner, the maneuvering movement occurring against the action of the spring in the other direction is made more difficult.
The present invention avoids these drawbacks in that the maneuvering movement of the mechanism is necessarily produced in both directions by means of a chain, a cable, a linkage or the like which does not 'is only used in traction.
According to the invention, a chain, for example, is passed through the axis of the hub formed right through and through the actuation of the operating mechanism to which the chain is connected with force transmission, for example, by a ergot, or the like, is produced by pulling the chain in either direction.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of nonlimiting example, by the single figure of the appended drawing.
The axle 3 of the hub has the continuous bore 4 through which the chain 2 passes. According to the embodiment shown, the chain 2 is in two parts which are both screwed by means of a thread in a media piece. common 5. The latter carries the finger 6 which axially displaces the sun gear of the mechanism 1 and thus changes the speed in each case.
In principle,; chain 2 can also be established continuous, that is to say in one piece and, in this case. the mechanism is actuated in a similar fashion.
The actuation of the chain 2 peu.t for example be done by means of a Bowden cable 8 or a similar member; area, from a rotating operating handle disposed on the handlebars. vehicle, relatively strong springs 7 being advantageously interposed between the Bowden cable 8 and the chains 2. The role of these springs 7 is to compensate for any defects in the precision of the operating movement of the Bowden cable 8 or of the rotating handle, thus than the movement path of the mechanism,
