<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
EXEMPLE I. -

The invention relates to the preparation of oximes from aliphatic and cycloaliphatic nitro compounds.
It is known that from aliphatic and cycloaliphtatic nitro compounds, the corresponding oximes can be obtained by reduction in the liquid phase using hydrogen. This reduction can be carried out both with reducing agents releasing hydrogen and catalytically with gaseous hydrogen.
However, it has been found that from aliphatic and cycloaliphatic nitro compounds, the corresponding oximes can be prepared by putting the nitro compound, in vapor form and at a temperature of 150-350 C, in contact with a solid salt. alkaline reaction of a weak acid.
When carrying out the process according to the invention, the reaction products contain water, which reveals the formation of oximes by dehydration of the hitre compound. However, one would expect to obtain unsaturated oximes. What is most remarkable is that the reaction products consist mainly of the corresponding saturated oximes and that in most cases no more than 20-30% non-oxime is obtained. saturated.
The vapor of the nitro compound is preferably mixed with an inert carrier gas. For this purpose, it is possible to use, for example, water vapor, carbon dioxide, hydrogen or nitrogen. Non-inert gases, such as oxygen and carbon monoxide, are not used.
It has been found that in comparison with other inert gases such as nitrogen, the use of hydrogen as carrier gas does not lead to a noticeable increase in the yield of saturated oxime, so that the use of hydrogen almost does not involve hydrogenation.
The amount of carrier gas to be used can vary greatly. Usually, large amounts of carrier gas are used so that no more than 5-10% by volume of nitro compound vapor is present in the gas mixture.
The temperature at which the reaction takes place is 150-350 C.
Higher temperatures are avoided to suppress the formation of untoward side products, which render the contact materials inactive.
Preferably, temperatures of 225-275 ° C. are employed. At these temperatures, a rapid reaction with a contact time of less than 5 seconds is possible, while few side products are deposited on the contact mass.
The nitro compounds are brought into contact according to the invention with a solid salt with an alkaline reaction of a weak acid. As suitable salts, carbonates, aluminates, borates or other alkaline reacting salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or other metals can be used. As examples of said salts, the following may be mentioned: sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, rubidium carbonate, calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, zinc carbonate, magnesium carbonate, thallium carbonate, cadmium carbonate , sodium aluminate, sodium borate, potassium borate, manganese carbonate and other salts of weak acids, which do not decompose at the reaction temperature. In addition, mixtures of said salts can be used.
Especially the alkali metal salts, such as potassium carbonate and rubidium carbonate, are very suitable contact materials for rapid reaction.
Moreover, these salts can be placed on a support. In
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For this purpose, it is possible to use both a salt of this group, for example, calcium carbonate, and another produced Good results are obtained with metal oxides, for example zinc oxide, manganese oxide and cadmium oxide, used as carriers.
When a carrier is used, the amount thereof is preferably such that the contact material does not contain more than 10% by volume of salt.
Contacting the vapor of the nitro compound with the salt can be accomplished by conducting the vapor through a layer of the contact material. The diameter of the solid particles is usually chosen, in this case, to be between 3-5 mm, although larger particles of irregular shape can also be used. Also, the solid material can be kept in motion for the reaction. Thus, the solid material in the finely divided state, for example in the form of particles having a diameter of less than 0.1 mm, and in the fluidized state can be contacted with steam.
This embodiment (ie using the solid material in the fluidized state) has the advantage of avoiding local overheating of the solid material, so that the temperature is easy. to maintain, constant, which favors a good progress of the reaction.
The process according to the invention can be carried out continuously by regenerating the solid material to remove the undesirable products which are deposited on this material.
Regeneration of the solid matter can be carried out in a simple manner by passing a gas containing oxygen, for example air. In order then to avoid large increases in temperature, the regeneration gas can be mixed with a gazinerte, for example with nitrogen or with steam. Regeneration can be carried out by keeping the solid material in a fluidized state, for example with the aid of regeneration gas.
The oxime can be separated from the gaseous reaction products by refrigeration, after which the oxime can be stripped, for example, by distillation. The carrier gas can be reused.
In addition, it has been found that the yield of the oxime can be increased by hydrogenation of the unsaturated oxime in the reaction products. To this end, the oxime obtained as the reaction product is subjected to a reaction product. hydrogenation treatment with hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst, for example palladium. It is preferred to carry out this hydrogenation at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of 15-25 Ce. use higher temperatures, for example 50-1100 C.
EXAMPLE I. -
To prepare a contact mass consisting of potassium carbonate on sine oxide as a carrier, fresh zinc carbonate was first prepared by precipitation from an aqueous solution of zinc nitrate using of potassium bicarbonate sulution. The resulting precipitate was filtered off and washed with water. Of the still wet product, 1000 grams were introduced into a solution of 60 grams of potassium bicarbonate in 500 grams of water. After filtering and drying the product, it was made into tablets, which were ground to 'to obtain grains with a diameter of 3-5 mm.
Then, these grains were heated for 4 hours at 400 C, passing to make The catalyst thus obtained contained 8% by weight of potassium carbonate and 92% by weight of zinc oxide.
38 grams of this catalyst were placed in a reaction tube.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tion (diameter 20 mm) and heated to the reaction temperature of 250 C.
Then a gas mixture was continuously prepared, vaporizing 7.25 grams of water per hour in 14 liters of nitrogen (measured at 0 C and 1 atm.) At a temperature of 80 C and 7.25 grams of nitro-cyclohexane at a temperature of 110 Ce After preheating, this gas mixture was passed through the reaction tube and the gases escaping from the tube were cooled, so that 3.2 grams of oxime per hour separated. 90% of the nitrooyclohexane was converted to oximes while the yield of oxime, calculated on the nitro-cyclohexane treated, was 56% by weight.
EXAMPLE II.-
As described in Example I, a number of tests were carried out with different catalysts. The preparation of the catalyst mixtures was carried out analogously, by impregnating a freshly prepared support (see Example I).
The results of these tests are shown in the following table.
In this table, the amount of nitro-cyclohexane which was conducted through the mass of catalyst with the aid of carrier gas was given in grams per kg of catalyst per hour.
The conversion rate was expressed in% by weight of the starting quantity of nitro-cyclohexane. The yield was expressed in% by weight of oxime formed, calculated on the amount of nitro-cyclohexane converted. The percentage of salt in the catalyst was also expressed in% by weight.
