PANNEAU D'ECOUTILLE.

verture du panneau;
La figure 3 est une vue en coupe du bord d'un panneau et de son cadre construits conformément à l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

HATCH PANEL.
The present invention relates to hatch covers of the type comprising three elements connected to one another by means of pivots, one of the two end elements being connected to the frame of the hatch by pivots, while the The adjacent element is adapted to the opening of the hatch so as to be lowered with its lower side against the lower side of the above-mentioned element, connected to the frame. When opening a panel of this type, we will proceed so that the second of the two end elements, for example, pivots substantially by 180 to bring it to bear with its upper side against the upper side of the intermediate element, on which each of the three elements would be washed in a substantially vertical position.
Particularly when considering the use of relatively large elements it may be found difficult to rotate the extreme element 180 because, after a lifting movement having described an angle of 90, a critical position is reached, in which the winches should be handled with some caution.
The hatch cover according to the invention is distinguished mainly by the devices which make it possible to lift, with respect to the frame, the element or elements connected to the first two elements mentioned above, to facilitate the movement of this or these elements along the frame in a substantially folded position.
Other characteristics of the invention will result from the description below with reference to the appended drawing given by way of non-limiting example and in which
Figures 1 and 2 show a hatch cover constructed in accordance with the invention, in two different positions, during operation.

panel green;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the edge of a panel and its frame constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 4 shows, in elevation, some details of the panel according to Figures 1 and 2.
In Figures 1 and 2, 1 denotes the frame of a three-piece sash panel, which are denoted by 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
Element 2 pivots on one end of the frame by means of a hinge 5, and the pivot axis between sections 2 and 3 is shown at 6. Element 4 is pivotally connected to section 3 by means of the pivot pin 7.
Guide rails 8 extend along the sides of the frame 1 and cooperate with the supports 9 and 10, the configuration of which appears more clearly in FIG. 4. The latter figure shows in elevation certain parts of the elements 3 and 4. while the hatch cover is in the fully folded position. In this position, the support 9 projects downwards into a recess 11 of the guide rail 8, while the rounded end of the support 10 fixed to the element 3 exceeds the pivot axis 7, and projects towards the bottom in another recess 12 of the guide rail. Provided on the latter is a wedge-shaped cam 13, which can be moved and which is designed to be locked in different positions for a purpose indicated later.
Figure 3 shows in section a panel and its frame. As shown in this figure, a gasket 14 is provided on the lower side of each panel member, said gasket preferably being made of rubber or a similar material. When the panel is in the lowered position, the trim is pressed against the upper side of the frame 1 by means of bolts 15, and for this reason the brackets 9 and 10 must be allowed to move somewhat. in the vertical direction. When the panel is to be removed, the bolts 15 are loosened, while the brackets 9 and 10 still protrude somewhat downward into their recesses.
Before the lifting operation begins, the cam 13 is brought to bear on the support 10, and it will easily be understood that the pivot pin 7 will be lifted so that the lining 14 is lifted from the frame 1, when the Elements 2, 3 are raised in the manner shown in figure 1. At the same time, a displacement of the element 4 towards the hinge 5 occurs, the support 9 sliding upwards on the guide rail 8.
In this way, section 4 will slide along frame 1 in a substantially horizontal position, but with trim 14 lifted from the frame.
Figures 1 and 2 show a winch 17 disposed on a mast housing 16, the cable 18 of said winch passing over a roller - guide 19 with which the mast 20. Attached to the pivot pin 6 is a pulley 21, in which passes the cable 18 so as to be extended by passing through a pulley 22 which is arranged on the mast 20, above the guide roller 19.
The free end of the cable 18 is fixed by means of a hook 23 to the free edge of section 4.
The method of opening the panel will be easily understood from figures 1 and 2. As soon as the pivot pin 6 commands to rise, section 4 lifts up in accordance with what has been said above, said section then sliding along frame 1, until sections 2 and 3 assume the position shown in figure 2, while prolonged pulling of cable 18 causes element 4 to pivot upwards towards two other elements. Due to the fact that the cable 18 is also fixed to the element 4, the pressure exerted by this section on the guide rail 8 will be considerably reduced, as a consequence of which the friction between the support 9 and the guide rail 8 will decrease.
Due to the weight of the various elements and other parts, it may in certain circumstances be found suitable to fix the hook 23 at a certain distance.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tance inside section 4, so that the latter does not completely leave the guide rail 8, whereby the panel opening operation would be hampered.
In the example described, special devices are provided for the operation of the panel, but the latter can obviously also be operated, for example by means of one of the loading masts of the ship.
If desired, use can be made of two supports fixed to the element 4, these said supports being substantially of the same type as the support 9, the support 10 then being omitted. It will likewise be easily understood that substantially identical advantages will be obtained if an additional element is added to element 4; said additional section must of course be provided with supports.
As in FIG. 4, the support 9 has a length greater than that of the recess 12, which is why the support 9 easily passes over the recess in question, without falling into it.
As indicated above, the embodiment described can be modified in its details without departing from the scope of the invention; tion. Thus, the guide rails and the brackets can be placed inside the frame without inconvenience should such a location be deemed suitable. Additional modifications can also be devised without the need to mention them.
