COMPOSITIONS INCLUDING AGENTS WITH SURFACE ACTIVITY.
This invention relates to novel compositions comprising surface active agents.
It provides novel and effective compositions, suitable for use as spinning oils and comprising an alkyl metal sulfate obtained by converting into sulfuric ester a hydrocarbon material comprising an o; lefin having a boiling point of at least 200 C with water, a high molecular weight fatty acid, for example oleic acid, mineral oil and diethylene glycol alkyl ether.
The preferred diethylene glycol alkyl ether is diethylene glycol butyl ether, for example the material known commercially as "Butyl-Cellosolve".
According to a variant of the invention, the composition contains normal butyl alcohol instead of diethylene glycol alkyl ether.
Preferably, metal alkyl sulphates are employed which are obtained by converting into sulfuric ester a shale oil distillation fraction having an initial boiling point of not less than 200 ° C. and a final boiling point of not higher. at 350 C.
Preferably, the distillation fraction boils over the entire range from 200 to 350 C. It has been found that the use of metal alkyl sulphates derived from a shale oil distillation fraction of this boiling range allows production of good quality spinning oils, while low proportions of oleic acid and the ether or alcohol described above were used.

The preferred metal alkyl sulfates are the alkali metal alkyl sulfates and usually sodium alkyl sulfates are employed. A preferred material is obtained according to the
EMI2.2

to 330 a9 and by subsequent neutralization of the hydrogenated alkyl sulfate thus obtained by means of an alkali metal base, with or without hydrolysis

simultaneous dialkyl sulphates.
The nature of the mineral oil component of the composition can be varied depending on the specific purpose for which the composition is intended but in general the petroleum fractions are preferred. A suitable material is spindle oil, preferably from spindle oil. crude oil from Venezuela.
The high molecular weight fatty acid preferably contains at least 12 carbon atoms / molecule. A preferred acid is oleic acid. Oleic acid is advantageously a commercial grade olein and preferably an olein with 70% saponifiable material
A feature of the present invention resides in the
EMI2.5

It has also been found that when an alkali metal salt, for example a sulfate, is used as a complementary component of the compositions, the amount of said ether or alcohol required to form a single liquid phase product is substantially reduced.
Therefore, according to another aspect of the present invention, there are obtained compositions comprising said metal alkyl sulphates, water, a fatty acid, a mineral oil and an alkali metal salt, with an alkyl ether of diethylene glycol. and / or normal butyl alcohol.
Preferably, the constituents of the preferred compositions of the invention are used in the following ranges of proportions, expressed as percentages by weight of the compositions
