<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

VOLTAGE DEVICE FOR THE FLEXIBLE TRANSMISSION PARTS
FORCE.
The invention relates to a tensioning device for flexible force transmission members and particularly for controls by belts, chains, bands or cables.
The fundamental idea of the invention is that the drive motor is mounted on an axis eccentric with respect to the axis of its rotating part and preferably located below the horizontal plane containing the latter. axis. Thanks to this arrangement, any increase in load on the driven shaft or pulley results in the appearance of a braking force on the rotating part of the motor, for example on the rotor of an electric motor, and consequently a rotation of the stator of the motor in the direction opposite to that of the rotor.
On the other hand, given that the rotation of the stator in the opposite direction to that of the rotor tends to move the axis of the rotor away from that of the driven shaft, it follows an increase in the tension of the motor strand, for example of the lower end of a belt which transmits the traction force of a chain, a cable, etc ... so that the engine torque transmitted by the engine will automatically rise in proportion to the load on the trained part.
In the accompanying drawing various embodiments of the invention are shown schematically by way of example.
Fig. 1 shows an eccentrically mounted drive motor according to the invention, in side elevation.
Figures 2 and 3 show the same motor in different voltage states.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the engine and its eccentric suspension.
Figures 5, 6, 7 show, schematically, a variant of the engine suspension.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure 8 is a view of another embodiment of the engine suspension *
In Figures 1 to 4, the reference numerals 1, 2 denote bearings rigidly fixed to the base 3 and in which is mounted by its journals 5, 6 a frame 4 in the form of a stirrup o The frame 4 carries the frame 7 of an electric motor in which the axis 8 of the armature is mounted in the usual way and carries the various members intended to transmit the energy produced by the movement of the armature, for example a belt pulley 9, a chain wheel, cable pulley, or the like.
It is assumed that the armature of the electric motor, in Fig. 1, rotates in the direction indicated by arrow 10 so that the lower run of the belt (or the like) transmits the tensile force to the driven part while the upper strand 12 of the belt is soft
If now the load on the part not shown in the figure, for example on the transmission pulley of a machine tool, or the like, increases, this results in braking of the rotating part of the motor. drive, for example of the armature of the electric motor.
The necessary reaction of this braking in the whole system consisting of the stationary part and the moving part of the motor is a rotation of the stationary part, that is to say of the casing of the electric motor with the in- conductor in a direction opposite to that of the armature rotation, as indicated by arrow 13.
This rotation must take place around the support points 14 of the eccentrically mounted motor and the result is that the axis of the armature of the electric motor is moved away from the axis of the driven shaft. lower 11 of the flexible transmission member will be tensioned more strongly so that a higher torque corresponding to the increased load will be transmitted by the drive motor.
In Figures 5 to 7, there is shown a variant of the arrangement, according to the invention. According to these figures, the eccentric suspension point 15 of the motor is placed higher than in Figures 1 to 3, to namely at a height such that the axis of the armature 8 is between the axis of suspension 15 and the driven shaft. In this arrangement, the drive motor 7 takes,
as the belt 11-12 rotates, the position shown in Figure 6, where it is lifted from its static equilibrium position under the effect of belt tension.
This arrangement has the advantage that the motor can be rotated in both directions, to the left and to the right, obtaining the effect set forth above, and that if a higher load is applied to the driven shaft, the torque transmitted by the motor rises. The two possibilities for the direction of rotation of the motor are indicated in figure 5 by the reference number 16, the two possibilities for the balances of the motor housing, when the load on the driven shaft increases, by the double arrow 17. FIG. 6 represents the state of equilibrium of this system for the case where the armature of the motor is rotated in the direction of the arrow 18.
The reaction of the carcass, that is to say its oscillation when the input of the motor is braked, then occurs in the direction of the arrow 190 As a consequence, the lower run 11 of the belt will be tensioned more strongly. temento Figure 7 illustrates the reverse case, namely the reaction of the motor casing for a rotation of the armature in the direction of the arrow 200 The oscillation of the motor casing, for an increased load on the The driven shaft then occurs in the direction of the arrow 21. As a result, the upper run 12 of the belt or the like will be tensioned more strongly.
In FIG. 8, the end plates 22 and 23 of the motor casing are provided with bosses 24, 25, which are made of cast iron with them. On the boss 24 is directly fixed the journal 26. The boss 25 is extended by the arm 27 which surrounds the belt pulley 9 of the electric motor and carries the journal 28. The last imagined arrangement presents, with respect to the arrangement of FIG. 4, the advantage of a simpler and more stable as well as the possibility of giving both parties a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
lower height, so that the suspension of the engine 7 will be particularly stable.
The arrangement described can be modified and implemented in various ways without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, in particular, the structure of the drive motor of the rotor working in the motor, its drive device, its speed, etc ... can be modified within wide limits and adapted to the operating conditions. Likewise, the eccentric suspension of the motor frame can be made or modified in many ways.
We could also swap the roles of the inductor and the inductor or of the carcass and, for example, arrange the armature eccentrically and rotate the casing concentrically to the armature. In this case, the reaction of the induced stator also occurs as described for an increased load on the driven shaft and as a consequence of the braking force produced on the rotating carcass.
The arrangement described can be used for all applications in which energy transmission takes place by means of flexible and endless members, for example belts, chains, articulated chains, conveyor belts. steel, articulated bands., cables etc ...
The tension device described - can furthermore be employed 'for the control of any machines,. For example - machine tools working at different speeds and under different loads, for extraction and transport devices. , for the operation of a whole group of machines working under variable loads, for example for the operation of washing machines, textile machines, automatic machines, etc ... Thanks to the use of this new tensioning device can significantly spare the bearings of both the driving machine and the driven machine and also the transmission members.
In addition, auxiliary installations, which are expensive due to their cost price and wear, such as ball tension rollers, tensioning machines, etc., become superfluous. Similarly, auxiliary installations such as progressive clutches , will be considerably relieved and spared in their operation, and their operation made faster under varying load conditions.
Another advantage is the safety from the point of view of the work and the execution of the various joints of the driven machine, whereas with the tensioning devices known hitherto, which have to work with varying fatigue, it could happen that as a result of the sudden increase in the slip, serious disturbances occur at the working point which may cause faults or the destruction of the workpiece.
