FUT RIGIDE, .
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

RIGID FUT,. CONTAINING A PLASTIC CONTAINER.
The present invention relates to a rigid barrel containing a closed plastic container having, on the one hand, a shape corresponding to that of the barrel and, on the other hand, a semi-rigid neck of the same composition as the container and which passes through one of the bottoms of the barrel.
Rigid drums are known, in particular wooden drums, dars which is disposed a plastic bag intended to contain solid material, in particular powder. The free edge of this plastic bag can be folded back on itself before placing a cover on the drum, like the edge of an ordinary paper bag. Such a drum is not suitable for transporting liquids.
It has also been proposed to carry out the transport of liquids in drums comprising, inside a rigid casing such as wood, a closed plastic container, provided with a neck passing through one of the bottoms of the drum and 'sufficient rigidity for a stopper to be clamped therein.
These drums have the drawback that if the neck is clamped in the opening in the bottom through which it passes through the latter, it is easily torn from the plastic container, in particular when the latter is only partially. filled and that the inertia of the liquid mass moves this container relative to the rigid drum under the effect of rough handling, shocks or falls.
On the other hand, if the neck is not tight in the aforementioned opening, it is quickly brought back inside the rigid barrel ,,
The present invention has as' object a barrel for the transport of liquids which does not have this drawback.
To this end, in the barrel according to the invention, at the periphery of the bottom of said closed plastic container which is crossed by the semi-rigid neck, there is provided a lip maintained applied against the wall of the barrel and the neck. aforesaid semi-rigid has a rim which is applied to the end of a bung that the said neck passes through and which has an external screw thread for receiving a plug,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Thanks to this barrel,
the bottom of the closed plastic container which is fitted with the neck is held along its periphery against the bottom of the barrel through which the neck passes. The latter must no longer resist the tendency for the container to move under the effect of rough handling and shocks.
It therefore no longer tends to be torn from the container. In addition, by clamping its rim between the bung and the plug thereof, the neck is prevented from being accidentally drawn inside the barrel.
The aforementioned lip is advantageously formed in the extension of the side wall of the container before being applied against the wall of the barrel.
It can be applied against the side wall of the barrel, either against the interior face or against the exterior face of this wall but, according to an advantageous embodiment, it is wedged between the edge of the side wall of the barrel and a bottom removable with which the barrel is provided and which is immobilized relative to said side wall.
The invention also relates to a closed plastic container provided with two bases, one of which is equipped with a semi-rigid neck of the same composition.
According to the invention, the bottom of the container which is equipped with the neck has a lip while the neck is provided with an outer rim.
This closed container can be the object of industry and trade. It can also be used successively in different barrels. In particular, after emptying, it can be returned in a reduced volume and weight to a filling point where it is again introduced into a rigid protective drum of corresponding dimensions. This solution can be considered when the rigid drum can be used without a plastic container at the destination of the liquid it has been used to transport or when the costs of transporting the drum to the place of origin are too high, with regard to the cost of the barrel in the latter place.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which represent schematically, and by way of example only, one embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view, after partial breaks, of the barrel according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view, after longitudinal section; of the plastic container contained in the drum according to figure 1.
Figure 3 is, on a larger scale, a section through the top edge and the drum cover according to Figure 1.
Figure 4 is, on a larger scale, a longitudinal section through the neck and bung of the barrel according to Figure 1.
In these different figures, the same reference notations denote identical elements.
The barrel shown in FIG. 1 comprises an actual barrel 2 made of sheet metal serving as a protective frame for a plastic container 3 placed in this barrel 2.
As can be seen in Figure 2, this container is closed like a barrel. It comprises a cylindrical side wall 4 to which two circular bottoms 5 and 6 have been welded, for example at high frequency. The outer dimensions and shape of this plastic container correspond exactly to the inner dimensions and shape of the barrel 2.
At the periphery of its bottom 5, the container 3 is provided with a lip 6 which, when the container is in place in the barrel 2, is kept pressed against the side wall of this barrel. This lip is formed in the extension of the side wall of the container before being applied against the side wall of the barrel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the embodiment shown, this lip is wedged between the edge 7 (Figure 3) of the side wall of the barrel and a removable bottom 8 serving. from lid to barrel. This removable f ond 8 is immobilized with respect to the side wall by means of a ring 9 clamped against the rim 10 of the bottom 8 by means of a device shown diagrammatically at 11 (FIG. 1).
The plastic container 3 is provided with a neck 12 (Figures 2 and 4). This neck passes through a bung 13 (Figures 1 and 4) with which the removable bottom 80 is fitted. This neck 12 is semi-rigid so that it can be inserted into the bung 13 and, at the same time, serve to hold against the bottom 8 of the barrel, the bottom 5 of the receptacle. The plug 13 has an external screw thread 14 for receiving a threaded metal stopper 15. A plastic pellet 16 covers the internal face of the stopper in order to put - be the metal of the stopper protected from chemical attack by the liquid to be transported.
The neck 12 is provided with a rim 17 at the end of the bung 13. This rim not only helps to hold the neck 12 in place but also to seal the container 3, by its clamping between the bung 13 and the pellet. 16 of cap 15.
In principle many plastic materials can be used to constitute the plastic container 3. The particular constitution of this container must obviously depend on the nature of the liquids to be transported. Polyvinyl chloride is ideally suited for the transport of acids and alkalis. Polyethylene is also suitable for the transport of acids and alkalis and is furthermore unassailable by a very large number of other liquids. In addition, it has a higher mechanical strength than that of polyvinyl chloride.
The neck 12 has the same composition as the bottom 5 of the plastic container 3, in order to facilitate its welding to this bottom.
The subject of the invention is also the closed plastic container, one of the bottoms of which is provided with a semi-rigid neck with an outer rim and has a lip at its periphery, said container possibly having the other characteristics of which. There has been talk about the receptacle 3 forming part of the barrel described above.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment shown and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of some of the elements involved in its realization, provided that these modifications are not inconsistent with the purpose of each of the following claims.
