APPAREIL ELEVATEUR POUR LA MANUTENTION DE TUYAUX:o
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ELEVATOR FOR HANDLING PIPES: o
The invention relates to lifting devices for handling pipes and has as a particular object the production of a hydraulic lifting device, with semi-automatic operation, intended to be supported by the hook of any device. lifting, for lifting in a vertical position and transporting pipes.
According to 1-'invention ,, the lifting device comprises longitudinal friction elements, 'intended to be pressed on the inner cylindrical face of the pipe to be lifted, said elements being forced radially by Inaction of the pressure developed in a hydraulic system. under the effect of the load to be lifted.
By way of example, one embodiment of the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic view in axial section showing the device in its inactive position.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1, showing the device in its active position.
As shown in these drawings, the device consists of a main cylinder 1 to which is connected a series of auxiliary cylinders 2, 2 ', placed in one or more rows and uniformly distributed around said cylinder 1.
In the cylinder 1 slides a piston 3, the rod 4 of which has at its upper part an opening 5, or other hooking means intended to be engaged, for example, by the hook of a lifting device (not shown).
On the head of cylinder 1 are provided two levers 6, 6 ', with counterweight 7, 7', articulated in 8, 8 ', These levers 6,6' are controlled by two connecting rods 9, 9 ', articulated between them by one of their ends, the other end of these connecting rods respectively articulated to said counterweights 7, 7 '.
The levers 6 and 6 'are provided respectively with nozzles 10, 10' which, in the inactive position of the device, cooperate with a disc 11 ;, in the form of a cup, fixed concentrically on the rod 4 of the piston 3.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The head of cylinder 1 is provided with a series of radial arms 12, 12 'forming brackets, distributed uniformly around said head, the angular position of said arms around cylinder 1 corresponding exactly to that of cylinders 2, 2 ', around the main cylinder 1.
In openings 13, 13 ', formed le.long said arms 12, 12', are articulated, by one of their ends, connecting rods 14, 14 ', which are articulated by their other end in bearings 15, 15' , integral with longitudinal thrust plates 16, 16 ', furnished on their outer face with bands, respectively 17, 17', of rubber or similar material.
In the cylinders 2, 2 'slide pistons, respectively 18, 18', which are connected to the thrust plates 16, 16 ', using connecting rods 19, 19' of adjustable length.
Tension springs 20, 20 'are provided between the plates 16, 16' and the edge of the cylinders 2, 2 '.
The operation of the device is as follows: Suppose, for example, that the device is suspended through the opening 5 of the piston rod 4, on the hook of a lifting device. In the inactive position of the device (fig. L), the jaws 10, 10 'of the levers 6, 6' are engaged in the hollow of the disc 11, while the longitudinal plates 16, 16 ', as well as the pistons 18, 18' are brought back towards the axis of the device, under the control of the tension springs 20 and 20 '.
The position of the connecting rods 14 and 14 'having been adjusted, along the arms 12, in the openings 13, 13', as well as the length of the connecting rods 19, 19 'of the pistons of the cylinders 2, 2', according to the diameter inside the pipe to be lifted, the device according to the invention is lowered, by the lifting device, into the hollow of the pipe 21, placed vertically on the ground, up to the moment when the stop pads 22, 22 ', provided on the lower face of the arms 12, come to rest on the upper end of said pipe 21.
To now operate the lifting of the pipe 21, the operator first orders the release of the jaws 10, 10 'of the disc 11, by pulling on a cable 23, connected to the common articulation of the connecting rods 9. Under the effect of this traction, the counterweights 7, 7 'are lifted, while the levers 6, 6' tilt around their articulation 8, 8 ', freeing the disc 11 from the jaws 10, 10'.
The lifting device is then put into action and drives upwards the rod 4, the piston 3 of which moves in the cylinder 1. As soon as the disc 11 has exceeded the height of the jaws 10, 1d; the cable 23 is released, allowing the levers 6, 6 'to return to their normal position, under the action of the counterweights 7, 7', while the arms 12 of the elevator still remain momentarily at rest on the upper end of the tube 1, under the action of the weight of the device.
In the meantime, under the effect of the displacement of the piston 3 upwards in the cylinder 1.1, the oil contained in the latter is discharged into the cylinders 2, 2 ', the pistons 18, 18' of which move outwards by transmitting , by means of the connecting rods 19, 19 'their movement to the thrust plates 16, 16', of which the rubber bands 17, 17 'come to press progressively along the inner wall of the pipe 21 ( fig. 2).
When the bands 17, 17 'are fully pressed against the inner wall of the pipe 21, the movement of the pistons 18, 18' stops and the oil can no longer enter the cylinders 2, 2 ', the main cylinder 1 is driven in turn by the piston 3, with lifting of the device as well as of the pipe 21, which is supported by the rubber bands 17, 17 ', with a force proportional to the weight of said pipe.
In order to release the device from inside the pipe 21, the lifting device is caused to descend and, when the pipe is placed on the ground, it suffices to let the rod 4 of the piston 3 fall back down. the cylinder 1, until the inclined edge of the disc 11, after having separated the nozzles 10, 10 ', allows the latter to engage automatically above the disc 11, under the action of the counterweights 7 , 7 ',
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The descent of the piston 3 in the cylinder 1 also allowed the pistons 16, 16 'of the cylinders 2, 2', to return to their normal position, shown in fig 1, under the effect of the flow, vers. cylinder 1, the oil contained in said cylinders 2, 2 'and the traction of springs 20, 20'.
The plates 17, 17 'no longer being in adhesion with the pipe. 21, the lifting device can then raise the device to remove it from said pipe, the cylinder 1 being driven simultaneously with the rod 4 of the piston 3, thanks to the engagement of the automatic hooking system constituted by the plate 11 and the nozzles 10, 10 'of the respective levers 6, 6'.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the device as described and illustrated in the drawings, but that numerous constructive modifications can be made thereto without departing from the spirit of the invention.
