Lifting device for vehicles. Lifting devices for vehicles are already known, comprising a bridge or a support device for the vehicle suspended from four uprights of a frame by means of cables or chains, the vertical displacement of this device being caused by the winding of the cables or chains on drums whose axis is controlled by a motor member.
These devices have the advantage of being of light construction, but the great disadvantage of being bulky since they must be provided for lifting vehicles of all sizes. It is, for example, necessary that the room in which they. are placed either large enough to allow vehicles of maximum expected length,
to be able to maneuver easily to come and place exactly between them. four uprights :.
The present invention relates to a lifting device which does not have the aforementioned drawbacks, in that it comprises at least one frame consisting of a cylinder and a piston, one being fixed and the other attached to the mobile support member of the vehicle which is disposed in cantilever with respect to the organ 'which carries it, the connection,
between the movable part of the frame and the movable support member of the vehicle being .constituted by an intermediate part connected to the latter member:
and guiding the length of the fixed part by resting on the latter so as to support the lateral thrust of the support member arranged in cantilever.
The attached drawing represents, by way of example and sohematically, an embodiment of the object of the present invention. Fig. 1 is an elevation; Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views.
With reference to FIG. 1 of the drawing, it can be seen that the frame is constituted by a fixed cylinder 10, in which slides a piston 11 intended to be actuated for example by pneumatic or hydraulic pressure by. means not shown in the drawing.
The piston 11 carries in its upper part a head 12 from which is suspended a tube 13 carrying in its lower part a lateral arm 14, to which the organ is attached. mobile support for the vehicle 15 consisting of a bridge formed by side members 16 and cross members 17. The bridge 16 -17 is connected to the arm 14, for example by a pin 18 passing through openings of the latter and the cross members 17.
The cylinder 10 serves as a guide to the tube 13 and the latter comprises for this purpose, in its lower part, rollers 19 (FIG. 2) in contact with the tube 10. In its upper part, the latter carries against rollers 20 (fig. 3) in contact with the inner face of the tube 13.
The operation of this device is as follows: Assuming that the members are in the position shown in FIG. 1, the bridge 16-17 being at ground level, the vehicle 15 to be lifted is placed, for example on the side members 16. The members producing the pressure in the cylinder 10 are then actuated and the piston 11 moves in this der negate from bottom to top, taking with it the tube 13 which itself drives the bridge 16-17 through the arm 14.
The cantilever of the bridge 16-17 attached to the arm 14 causes pressure from left to right of the rollers 19 on the cylinder 10, while the tube 13 exerts pressure in the opposite direction on them. rollers 20 of the upper part of the tube This device has the following essential advantages:
As it has only one fixed support, it leaves great freedom of maneuver around it for the vehicles. On the other hand, access to the vehicle is not hampered by any lateral organ.
The same apparatus can be used for the simultaneous lifting of two vehicles if an arm 14 is provided on the two opposite sides of the tube 13 or even also with a single bridge by operating as follows: a first vehicle is raised at the desired height and the bridge then placed on fixed trestles.
This bridge is detached from the arm 14 by removing the pin 18 and the piston 11 is allowed to descend into the cylinder 10, after which the tube 13 is rotated with the piston 180. It is then possible, by fixing another bridge to the arm 14, to lift a new vehicle.
For vehicles of significant weight, provision can be made for two devices actuated by the same pump to be placed opposite one another and to be attached by their arms 14 to the same bridge. The operation is then the same as that of a simple device.
We can naturally provide multiple variants of detail to the apparatus described, without departing from the scope of the invention; thus, the upward movement of tube 13 could also be controlled mechanically, for example by a screw. In order to lighten the construction and save material, the tube 13 could be divided in the longitudinal direction at least over a part of its length.
Instead of the rollers 19 and 20, one could also provide plain bearings bearing on the column 10 respectively on the tube 13.
In the example shown in the drawing, the cylinder 10 is fixed and it is the piston which moves upwards. One could of course also provide for the opposite case, with a fixed piston and the cylinder moving upwards. In this case, it is the cylinder itself which carries the arm 14 to which the bridge 16-17 is attached and the guiding takes place along the piston rod.
The side members 16 could be movable on the cross members 17 in order to be able to adjust their spacing.
