<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

CLOSING DEVICE (FOR CONTAINERS.
The present invention relates to a closure device for containers with liquid, pasty or other content.
This closure device is remarkable for the extreme simplicity of its constitution and its handling and ensures a completely hermetic closure, while eliminating the drawbacks of the usual closures, with cap or threaded cap, or other, d 'inconvenient handling and erratic operation.
The closure device forming the subject of this invention is characterized in particular by the fact that it comprises a dispensing part provided on the container, provided with a screw thread and traversed by a passage communicating with the interior. of the container and terminating externally at an outlet opening situated on one side of the axis of the dispensing part, and a closing member which is screwed onto the dispensing part and comprising a closing surface which, when the 'closure member is screwed tightly onto the dispensing part, is hermetically applied to said outlet orifice, said closure member having an opening which can be brought in front of said outlet orifice by angular movement of the closure member in the direction of its unscrewing.
Advantageously, said opening is large enough to discover, at the same time as the outlet orifice, the region of the dispensing part which surrounds the said orifice, so that the contents of the container can exit through this orifice without coming into contact. with 3 closure member, which gives this closure device its eminently hygienic character.
Other characteristics of the invention will emerge from the description which follows and from the appended drawings which represent, by way of non-limiting examples, some embodiments of the closure device according to the invention.

Fig. 19 is a section along the line XIX-XIX of FIG. 18.
Figs. 21 and 22 are perspective views of the distributor part and the closure member of a conical closure device.
In Figures 1 to 8, 1 is the dispensing part which is crossed by a passage communicating with the interior of the container and terminating externally at an outlet orifice 2 which is located on one side of the axis of the part. dispenser 1.
The dispensing part 1 can be integral with the container or can be attached to it in various ways, some of which will be described below.
The dispensing part 1 is provided with a screw thread 3 onto which is screwed a closing cap 4 threaded at 5. This cap 4 comprises a sealing surface 6 which, when it is fully screwed onto the dispensing part. 1, is applied to the outlet 2 so as to close it hermetically, as shown in figures 5 and 6.
When the cap 4 is unscrewed by about half a turn as shown in figs. 7 and 8, an opening 7 made in this cap is brought in front of the orifice 2, through which the contents of the container can then be poured in, or be brought out in any other way.,
The opening 7 is advantageously of fairly large dimensions in order to discover not only the outlet orifice 2, but, at the same time, the entire region of the dispensing part 1 which surrounds this orifice. Thanks to this arrangement, the contents of the container can come out of the orifice 2 without touching the cap 4, which is advantageous from the point of view of hygiene.
As shown in figs. 7 and 8, the wide opening 7 of the cap 4 makes it possible to uncover in particular also the edge 8 of the dispensing part 1 near which the orifice 2 is located, so that the contents of the container can be poured out. above said edge 8 without coming into contact with cap 4.
The rotation of the cap 4 in the unscrewing direction can be limited by any suitable stop means, for example by an ankle 9
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
which is provided on the dispensing part 1 and on which engages a notch 10 made in the cap 4.
To ensure a perfectly tight closure, seal gaskets can be provided, for example, in the cap 4, as shown at 11, pin 9, or on the dispensing part 1, as shown at 12, fig. 10.
It may be advantageous to adopt the arrangement shown in Figs. 11 and 12, in which the dispensing part 1 is provided with a stud on which the outlet orifice 2 is located, so that the latter is surrounded by a projecting edge 13, on which can be applied hermetically seal the sealing surface of the closure cap. On the protruding edge 13 surrounding the orifice 2 can fit a seal 16 having an inverted U-shaped section, as shown in figure 11a.
As shown in figs. 13 and 14, the dispensing part can be crossed by a second passage leading externally to a ventilation orifice 14. This is then arranged near the outlet orifice 2, so that the two orifices 2 and 14 can be closed. at the same time by the shutter surface 6 of the cap 4, and uncovered at the same time by the opening 7 of the said cap.
The protruding edges surrounding the ports are optional, but if the outlet port 2 is surrounded by a protruding edge 13, the ventilation port 14 is also surrounded by a protruding edge 15, of the same height as the edge 13, so that the closure surface 6 of the cap can ensure the simultaneous closing of the two orifices 2 and 14.
By giving the passages leading to the ports 2 and 14 a suitable narrow section, the closure device according to the invention can be used as a dropper. The manufacture of the dispensing part 1 in molded material makes it possible to calibrate very exactly and with minimal tolerances the sections of said passages, so that the dropper obtained is of great precision.
The closure device according to the invention can be combined with elastic means acting on the cap or other closure member, in the direction of its fully screwing on the dispensing part, to ensure the automatic closing of the device, after use. . An embodiment of this type is shown, by way of example, in Figs. 15 and 16.
Between the dispensing part 1 and the cap 4 is disposed a spiral spring 16, one end 16a of which is embedded in part 1 and the other end 16b in the cap 4. This spring 16 always tends to screw the cap 4 fully on. part 1, in the closed position shown in FIG. 15. Resilient means of this type can naturally be applied to all variants of the closure device according to the invention and can also be combined with stop means limiting the angular movement of the closure member 4 in the direction of its unscrewing.
As has been said previously, the dispensing part can be integral with the container. However, it can also be attached to the container and a few embodiments of this type will be described below by way of example.
According to fig. 17, the dispensing part 1, with its orifice 2 and its screw thread 3, is made separately, of metal or other suitable material, and is fixed on the container, for example on a bottle 17, by crimping its edge. 19 below the bead 18 surrounding the neck of the bottle.
According to figs. 18 and 19, the screw thread 3 is formed directly on the neck of a bottle 20, while the portion of the distribution part 1 comprising the orifice 2 is attached thereto. In this. In this case, part 1 must be prevented from rotating with respect to the neck of the bottle 20 carrying the screw thread 3, so that the fully screwed position of the closure cap (not shown) always corresponds to the closure of the 'orifice 2. For this purpose, part 1 carries inside ribs 21 which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
engage in corresponding grooves provided on the neck of the bottle 20.
Instead of covering the neck, part 1 could naturally also be inserted therein, in the manner of a stopper, while being prevented from turning, by ribs or similar means.
Fig. 20 shows another similar arrangement. Here, the screw thread 3 is formed on the neck of a bottle 22 to which the portion of the dispensing part 1 having the orifices 2 and 14 is applied from above. Notches 24 provided at the edge of the neck of the bottle 22 receive teeth 25 which the part 1 comprises, so that the latter is prevented from rotating, for the purpose specified above.
If part 1 is made of an elastic material such as polyethylene, for example, it can itself act as a gasket.
Instead of being flat, the dispensing part 1 may include a cone on which the outlet orifice is located and, where appropriate, also the ventilation orifice. An embodiment of this kind is shown in FIGS. 21 and 22.
The dispensing part 1, which carries the screw thread 3 and can be in one piece with the container 29 or be attached to it, comprises a cone 26 on the surface of which are the outlet orifice 2 and the orifice d. ventilation 14. The closing cap 4, which is screwed by its internal thread 5 on the screw thread 3 of part 1, comprises an extension 27, the internal surface of which is conical and applies exactly to the cone 26. The the extension 27 of the cap is cut so as to form the opening 7 which allows the orifices 2 and 14 to be exposed, while, when the cap 4 is fully screwed onto part 1, the conical inner surface of the extension 27 covers the orifices 2 and 14 and is strongly clamped on the cone 26, so as to ensure a tight seal.
The aeration orifice 14 is especially useful when the container 29 contains a liquid. If this container is a flexible tube containing a paste, the aeration port 14 can be omitted.
The opening 7 is wide enough to uncover not only the orifice (s) on the cone 26, but at the same time the entire region of this cone which surrounds the said orifices, which is advantageous from the point of view of hygiene, since the contents of the container 29 can exit from the orifice 2 without touching any part of the cap 4 or of its extension 27.
The embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying drawings constitute only examples to which the invention is in no way limited. This invention can, on the contrary, give rise to other embodiments in accordance with its principle.
