<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Parallèlement, une came
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

during handling and its mechanical loading on the support arms of the user machine.
In an advantageous embodiment, the frame of the mobile carriage has a very wide U-shape and comprises two end frames connected by a single side member.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the handling device: the;:; spools comprises a lifting mechanism consisting of pivoting brackets mounted at the ends of the frame on the aforementioned end frames.,
According to another characteristic of the invention, the lateral side member of the chassis of the carriage is telescopic so that the length of the latter is adaptable to the length of the reels to be transported.
The invention is obviously not limited to the characteristics of a general order stated above; it also extends to the particularities which emerge from the description which follows, which, made with reference to the appended drawings, given on a window pane of non-limiting examples, will make it clear how the invention can be put into practice. .
Fig 1 is an elevation with partial section of a handling device according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to figure 1, the right and left parts however showing differences in design.
Fig. 3 is an end view of this device.
Fig. 4 is a view on a larger scale with partial section of a variant of fig 2.
Figs. 5 and 6 represent respectively in section and in front of the operating lever of the lifting device.
Figs. 7 and 8 show an end and plan view of an embodiment of the invention in which the carriage is provided with a side member and additional wheels.
Fig. 9 shows, seen from the end, the carriage provided with a .surélevée jib crane and a support stand, allowing the stacking of beams, or the loading of coils at great heights.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the handling device according to the invention comprises a frame formed of two end frames 1 joined by a strong tubular spar 3 and 4. The assembly is presented, -n in plan, under the shaped like a horseshoe or better still a very wide U-shoe so as to leave a lateral opening in the frame, in order to allow the easy introduction of a coil between the two end frames 1.
This chassis is provided, for example, with a four-cycle rolling system allowing it to roll on the ground both longitudinally and transversely, and to turn on the spot.
In order to allow pivoting in place of the handling device, its center of gyration is brought relatively close to the center of gravity of the rolling system, instead of being transferred to one of the ends of the carriage.
To this end, the four carrying wheels 5 are mounted only to pivot on the end frames 1, their pivot not including any locking means. To these load wheels is added a fifth central wheel 6 called "pilot wheel, fixed substantially in the middle of the telescopic spar 3 - 4 ..
This pilot wheel comprises a rubberized roller mounted on a yoke 7 articulated around a horizontal axis 8 carried by a support 9, integral with one of the tubes of the telescopic spar. A strong spring of tension
10, the ends of which are respectively integral with the support 9 and: of the yoke 7, gives the rubberized roller of the pilot wheel 6 sufficient pressure
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on the ground, whatever the unevenness, so that this roller constitutes a true pivoting center of the rolling system.
The pilot wheel 6 remains in operation as long as there is a need to move the device over a long distance requiring precise driving :, such as moving through narrow corridors full of obstacles to avoid.
On the other hand, when it comes to moving the device transversely, which is the case, when the reel is largely on the ground and the reel is unloaded on the user machine, the pilot wheel will be placed. out of service by slipping away from the ground. For this purpose, the yoke '7 is, # united with a pedal 11, which, by lowering at the foot, is blocked by a cleat 12, thus maintaining the pilot wheel 6 raised.
To put this pilot wheel back into service, it suffices to give a blow, with the foot, on an overhanging little finger 12a, integral with the cleat 12, so as to release the pedal and to allow it to go up, thus putting the roller back on. pilot wheel in contact with the ground under the action of the spring 10.
In addition, with a view to limiting the bulk of the apparatus, the latter is provided not with an operating drawbar but with a push bar 13, as shown in fig 1, said bar being integral with the 'one of the extreme frames 1.
In the case of particular uses of the handling devices according to the invention, in particular in the case of their use in screw connections, the wheels 5 are provided with thread guards consisting either of a stamped sheet hub cover, either, as shown in :: fig. 1 and 3, by concretes 14 integral with the enveloping screed 15.
The length of the handling device can be fixed. However, preferably, this length is made variable in order to adapt the device to the handling of coils of various lengths. As shown in figs 1 and 2, the outer end of the tube 4 receives a cushion 16 in which the cylindrical end 17 of a screw 13 driven by a crank 19, with adjustable crank pin or not, journals. , pinned or keyed to this screw. The screw 18 engages with a nut 20 mounted inside the tube 3 and is provided at its end inside the tube 3 with a limit stop 21.
A split collar 22, fixed to the end of the tube 4 through which the tube 3 slides serves to maintain the relative position of these tubes, with respect to one another.
The adjustment of the spacing of the two frames 1 can also be used with a view to adjusting the roller loader for a given reel by leaving side clearances in the most suitable direction, or to lift the reel from the ground, or to make the device penetrate between the support arms of the user machine. This adjustment can be made after loading the reel on the roller loader.
The end frames 1 each carry a small bracket comprising a body 23 in which is housed the lifting control device which will be described later. This body is pivotally mounted on a tube 24 integral with the telescopic spar. The pivot of this jib crane can also be telescopic in order to obtain a height as great as is necessary to supply the user machine. The lifting mechanism enclosed in the body 23 actuates a cable or a chain 25 which, after passing over a return pulley 26, serves to hook the hub of the spool which is thus raised in a substantially vertical upward movement.
This cable 25 preferably ends in an adjustable loop 27, which itself adapts to all hub diameters. This loop can, moreover, be provided with a sheath of leather, rubber, or any other adherent material, in order to cause sufficient friction to oppose the rotation of the hub of the spool during lifting.
In other cases, it is also possible to replace the closed loop 27 by an open hook, and the leather sheath by a rigid collar without friction action, if one has in order to precisely facilitate the rotation of the strap.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
reel, for example, at the area where the crew of frames transported with the reel must be removed, in the case of weaving,
The lifting device operates as follows:
The carriage is extended by operating the telescopic spar
3-4 by the crank the, so as to completely embrace the coil.
The two brackets are oriented towards the interior of the frame at an angle sufficient for the loops 27 to be mounted on the ends of the hub of the spool.
After a sufficient rise of the latter, and to avoid any swinging of the load during the rolling of the device, the frame is tightened by actuating the crank 19 until the cheeks of the reel come to bear against the frames 1.
The perfect immobilization of the reel can be ensured by making it come down again on the frame itself, or preferably as shown on the left part of the pin 2, on a support finger 28 mounted on the end frame 1, this finger possibly being able to slip out thanks to its pivoting about a vertical axis 29, so as not to interfere with subsequent maneuvers. In this case, the spool also rests on the side member 3 - 4.
Likewise, it would be possible, in order to facilitate the unwinding movement of the beams when they are presented to the user machine, to replace as shown on the right-hand side of FIG. 2, the support finger 23 which can be eclipsed by a fixed cylindrical axis 30 provided with a cylindrical sleeve 31 on which the periphery of the cheeks of the reels could easily roll. In this second case, the coil rests on the other hand on a second axis 30 identical to the first.
In this way, the coil will be substantially centered relative to the frame, as shown in phantom lines at 32 in figs 2 and 3, thus reducing the transverse bulk to a minimum.
Figs 5 and 6 represent the control mechanism of the lifting device according to a preferred embodiment,
The operating lever is articulated on the bracket formed by the body 23 and the tube 24, around a shaft 33 which carries a crazy drum
34 on which is wound the traction cable 25. A cable guide device such as 25a, integral with the body 23 maintains the layer of cables on the drum 34, when no load is stretching the lifting cable. The lever itself is formed by two arms 35 joined at their end by a handle.
36 mounted on a pin 37.
The idle drum is integral with a ratchet wheel 38 which is controlled by two pawls, the pawl 39 articulated around a shaft 40 carried by the lever, and the pawl 41 articulated around a shaft 42, integral with the body 23. The lever also carries a cam 43 which cooperates with the pawl 41, at the end of travel.
When the lever 35 is lowered, the pawl 39 drives the wheel
38 and consequently, the tamboar 34 while the pawl 41 is raised as each tooth of the ratchet wheel 38 passes. When the lever is raised, the pawl 39 no longer works and the pawl 41 blocks the wheel 38. The cam 43 ensures the locking of this pawl 41. In parallel, a cam
39a ensures the latching of the pawl 39 during the descent.
A release device comprises two cables 44 and 45 which slide in sheaths 46 and 47. These two cables are fixed respectively to the pawls 41 and 39 by locking tabs 48 and 49. Springs
50 and 51 which rest on these tabs 48 and 49 and on the ends of the sleeves 46 and 47, push back the pawls by applying them elastically to the wheel 38.
ORIGINAL The other ends of the cables 44 and 45 are integral with a bar 52 mounted on a control rod 53. This rod 53 passes through a .plate 54 fixed to the lever 35 by rivets 55 in which are blocked
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the ends 56 and 57 of the sheaths 46 and 47. The control rod 53 is pushed elastically downwards by a spring 58 which rests under the plate 5.:,. and on a nut 59 screwed onto the threaded end of said rod 53.
This:; :: '8 rod is bolted at 60 at its opposite end to a .SI maneuvering handle articulated around a pin 62 fixed to two consoles
63 integral with lever 35, manually tightening both the handles
36 and 61, on. pulls upwards, the rod 53 which drives the cables 44 and 45, and the pawls 39 and 41 are urged to disengage from the teeth as long as the pressure exerted by them on these pawls is zero, which cannot occur only on one pawl at a time.
The loading of a reel on the device, taking into account the description of the lifting operation described above, therefore requires a back and forth action on the lever 35 by holding only the handle.
36.
The unloading of the reel on the other hand, always requires a back and forth movement but in this case, the handle 61 being tightened constantly with the handle 36, whatever the number of alternating maneuvers to be performed, without having to release the handle 61.
Another characteristic of the device according to the invention is to be able to deposit the reel directly by its hub, on the support arms of the user machine.
In certain cases, the machine is congested at its base by various obstacles preventing a sufficient approach of the handling device to ensure the direct loading of the reel.
To remedy these difficulties, the handling device according to the invention can be supplemented by two small springboards each adapted to the end frames 1 of the carriage, one of the ends of said springboards being secured in any suitable manner on each ex- frame. treme while the other free end has a beak coming to rest at the entry of the cradle bearing in which each end of the hub will rest. These removable springboards allow the reel to cross these various obstacles (sleepers, trees, etc.). These unloading stepping stones could also be replaced by unloading bars of a known type.
In the embodiment shown in figs 7 and 8, the U-shaped frame comprises a telescopic spar 64 and two end frames
65 - ,: anise each with a maneuver bar 66. Wheels 67 are mounted around vertical pivots 68 carried by these frames, these pivots not being in the same transverse plane but being offset forwards or forwards. rear, which distributes the impact points of the wheels on the ground and ensures good stability of the truck regardless of the level of the ground.
For the transport of two half-beams mounted on the same shaft, one can add to the main spar 64, an additional spar 69 also telescopic, which rests on the frames 65, but which is only used during transport. This spar can carry fixed wheels
70 non-orientable, used in combination with the pilot wheel 6 to create an intermediate center of gyration.
Finally, when you want to use the trolley as a stacker for bundles, a raised jib 71 is provided (fig. 9); the lifting device comprising a drum winch 72 mounted on a shaft 73 carried by a casing 74 fixed to beams 75. At the end of the shaft 73 is keyed a crank 76 provided with a safety system, for example a proportional brake 77 of a known type. The traction cable 25 passes over the pulley
78 of a spreader 79 which carries the hooking loop 80 of the beams, In co case the cable 25 is fixed at 81 in the body 23 and passes over two return pulleys 2 and 83.
On each frame 65 is mounted a stability crutch 84 which
