<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Dans le but de faire ressortir les caractéristiques essentielles des présents perfectionnements, un mode d'exécution non limitatif sera dé- crit ci-après avec référence aux dessins annexés dans lesquels: la figure 1 est une vue en élévation latérale avec coupe partiel- le suivant la ligne 1-1 de la figure 2 représentant le support perfectionné dans une ouverture de fenêtre; la figure 2 est une vue en élévation de face de ce support; la figure 3 en est une vue en plan; la figure 4 est une vue arrière en perspective du support;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Le moyen de support se constitue d'une cornière 26 présentant également une série d'orifices équidistants .2 à son extrémité inférieure (figure 1). La cornière de support 26 est fixée à son extrémité supérieure à la cornière horizontale 7. Dans ce but, ladite cornière 7 porte deux lan- guettes perforées 27 faisant saillie verticalement et vers 1'arrière, dis- posées et espacées en sorte d'être capable de recevoir l'extrémité de la flange 26A du suport 26, lequel dernier est solidarisé auxdites languettes 27 par un boulon et écrou'28. Le support 26 est, par son extrémité infé- rieure, fixé à deux languettes 29 faisant saillie verticalement et vers l'ar- rière du corps de l'élément horizontal 13;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"IMPROVEMENTS TO SUPPORTS FOR SCAFFOLDING".
The invention relates to improvements to supports for scaffolding,
According to the invention, the improved support comprises a first element designed to be arranged in the window openings of the walls so as to extend outwards, a second element - vertical - designed to end against the interior face of the wall surrounding said opening, means for connecting the interior part of said first element to the aforesaid second element, and means to said second element for supporting the first element at an intermediate joint, the scaffolding being able to be supported by the horizontal elements of such supports when they are arranged spaced apart from each other
More particularly,
the support improved in accordance with the present invention consists of a first member, disposed in the window opening of one wall and extending substantially horizontally outside said opening, of a second element arranged substantially perpendicular to said first element and terminating on the inner face of the wall, above and below said opening, with support means connecting the inner part of said first element to said second element, and means to the latter element to support the first element at an intermediate point,
the scaffolding can be supported by the horizontal members of two such supports mounted at a distance from each other.
Preferably, the support is designed so that it can be locked in its exact position between the upper face and the bottom of the window opening or between the upper face of the window and the solo
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In order to bring out the essential characteristics of the present improvements, a non-limiting embodiment will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view with partial section - the following line 1-1 of Figure 2 showing the improved support in a window opening; FIG. 2 is a front elevational view of this support; Figure 3 is a plan view; Figure 4 is a rear perspective view of the support;
Figure 5 is a schematic perspective front view showing the support in one mode of use; Fig. 6 is a schematic side view showing the support in another characteristic position; Figure 7 is a plan view of a support detail; Figure 8 is a partial section on line VIII-VIII of la'figure 7; FIG. 9 is a plan view of an alternative embodiment of the detail shown in FIGS. 7 and 8; Figure 10 is a section taken along the line X-X of Figure 9.
According to these figures, the improved support is made up of four main elements, in particular: an upright, clamping means, a horizontal element and support means.
The upright consists of two parallel angles 1-2 whose flanges are handled by a series of equidistant holes 3. These angles have a sufficient length so that their ends reach the inner face of the wall 4, surrounding the opening for window (figure 1).
The tightening means comprise two tightening screws 6 mounted on a horizontal angle 7, secured to the angles 1-2 by means of bolts and nuts 8. these bolts passing through holes in the angle iron 1,. aligned with the corresponding holes 3. of the uprights 1-2. The nut 2 of each clamping screw 6 is welded or secured in another suitable manner to the horizontal flange of the angle iron 7 and the body of the screw is guided by a support 10. Each screw has a head through which an orifice passes. 11, allowing the introduction of a clamping bar.
The end of each screw carries a plate 12, which can be removable, enlarging the bearing surface; this plate could also be replaced by a "U" shaped element (not illustrated) arranged so as to overlap the upper part of the window opening 2
The horizontal element can comprise two angles identical to those used to constitute the upright, and having the same length in order to promote production; however, in the example illustrated, the horizontal element is formed by an I-shaped cross member 13.
This horizontal element 13 is provided with an intermediate support, consisting of a plate 14, secured to the uprights 1-2 by bolts and nuts 15. As shown in Figure 1, the plate 14 carries., Internally and along its lower edge, an angle bar 16 welded or fixed by bolts and arranged so that the element 13 rests on its upper flange 16A, while the plate 14 also has an upper flange 17.
The horizontal element 13 is therefore guided between said flanges 16A and 17.
The plate 14 also has .. on the opposite side and towards its lower edge, a horizontal angle iron 19, secured to the plate 14 by bolts and nuts 15, the lower flange 19A pressing on the inside face of the window opening. Reinforcing elements 19B are provided on the angle iron 19.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Element 13 is further supported by parts 20 fixed with bolts 21 to the horizontal flange of angle iron 19. The upper ends of these complementary support parts 20 are secured to the lower flanges of element 13. using bolts and nuts 22.
Supports 23, provided on either side of element 13, also constitute an additional guide element for element 13; they are fixed to it by a bolt and nut 24. The lower ends of said supports 23 are fixed at 25 to the flange 16A of the angle bar 16.
The support means consists of an angle 26 also having a series of equidistant holes .2 at its lower end (FIG. 1). The support angle 26 is fixed at its upper end to the horizontal angle iron 7. For this purpose, said angle iron 7 carries two perforated tabs 27 projecting vertically and rearwardly, arranged and spaced so as to be. capable of receiving the end of the flange 26A of the support 26, which latter is secured to said tabs 27 by a bolt and nut'28. The support 26 is, by its lower end, fixed to two tabs 29 projecting vertically and towards the rear of the body of the horizontal element 13;
this connection is ensured by a bolt and nut 300
A complementary clamping means excluding any possibility of accidental displacements of the uprights relative to the walls is constituted by an angle iron 35, the vertical flange of which is provided with a series of holes and which extends horizontally through the opening. window 5 to end against the outer face of the wall at the side faces of the opening 5. Said angle bar 35 is immobilized by a pair of threaded rods 36, passing through the orifices of the vertical flange of the angle iron 35 and the orifices of the uprights 1-2, and tightened by nuts 37.
This clamping means is, purely as an indication, shown above the horizontal element (figs 1-2-3 and 5) but normally, it will be arranged below this element, as shown in fig. 4 unless the horizontal element 13 would be arranged, very low on the uprights.
Fig. 5 schematically shows two applied supports, the scaffolding boards being indicated by 39.
Of course, the preferred embodiment, described above can be modified without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Thus, for example, the supports 10 can be replaced by a single angle iron secured to the angle iron 1 by bolts and nuts; likewise, the flange could be replaced by an angle iron. The plate 14 can also be removed and the element 13 would then simply be clamped between the angles 16 and 19, secured to the amounts 1-2 by bolts and nuts
However, it has turned out to be simpler to apply this plate 14 with flange 17 and angle brackets 16-19 added so as to be able to adjust them at will.
It goes without saying that said c rnières could as well be replaced by other metal profiles, poexo in the shape of "T".
The horizontal element 13 has a series of holes allowing the fixing of the boards or of the platform of the scaffolding.
In the drawings, the element 13 is shown schematically as supported by the angle iron 19, resting on the bottom of the window opening, but it is obvious that said angle iron can also rest on the ground, if necessary.
For the formation of a scaffolding, at least two supports are used as described above, one being poexo arranged in a window opening, while the second is mounted in the neighboring window opening, the number of applied supports depending essentially on the length of the scaffolding to be supported by the horizontal elements
By providing for the application of different angles, combined
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
with the series of holes in each flange, the support can very easily be adapted to any size of window opening, while
EMI4.1
that the length of the part of the element 1.:2., protruding from the window opening ± can also be adjusted as desired.
In fig. 2, the uprights are arranged at the ends of the plates 14 and 31 and of the angle iron 7, but the amounts can also be closer together, or further apart when said plates and said angle iron are longer than those shown in the drawing.
The holes in the angles are heated so that the heads of the bolts are flush with the said angles, the bolts
EMI4.2
28 and O for the 3Z tabs. are made of high tension steel and they are secured to the corresponding tabs by a chain, in order to avoid loss and in order to systematically exclude the use of ordinary bolts which is not desirable to the point from a safety perspective.
The different angles may optionally have the same transverse dimensions in order to facilitate their preparation; however, the holes in the angle bar 26 will be closer together in order to obtain a tighter fit.
The vertical branch of element 13 can also be provided with orifices, to facilitate the attachment of an additional member, such as p. ex. a pulley 38 (see fig. 1) or for the placement of a platform
EMI4.3
The clamping member 5, -3-T. described above is, in another variant embodiment replaced by a means shown schematically in figs 7 and 80
According to these figures, this clamping means consists of a cord
EMI4.4
nière 1 &; welded to a 4.0A plate, secured to uprights 1-2 using bolts and nuts o Two arms AI are, by their inner ends, pivotally fixed to the horizontal flange of angle ¯40 ,, using rivets ± ±; it follows that said arms 41 can oscillate in the horizontal plane.
Each arm 41 is formed of an angle iron, the free end of which is straightened perpendicularly downwards (figa 8), and is connected to the vertical flange 44 of the angle iron 40 via a threaded rod
EMI4.5
AT 5. These A5 threaded rods are pivotally attached to the arms 1J :, using A6 rivets. while their other ends pass through the flange M and carry a wing nut A7 and a semi-spherical washer o The angle Ml is provided with reinforcing ribs 49. When using the assembly, the arms 41 make window opening protrusion and nuts
EMI4.6
wings A7 are tightened so that the arms / 1 pivot until their straight down parts come into contact with - and rest firmly on - the front wall around the window opening.
The arms 41 may, if deemed useful, be straightened laterally instead of inferiorly, so that the straightened parts would then rest on., The wall next to the window opening.
Figs. 9 and 10 show diagrammatically yet another embodiment of this additional clamping means.
In this embodiment, the vertical flange 50 of a horizontal angle iron 51 is welded to a vertical plate 52 extending between the uprights 1-2 of the support, being secured thereto by bolts and

a part which is angularly straightened towards the rear .52-A .. On each tongue .21 is pivotally mounted an arm 55 These arms are formed of a corner and the pivot assembly is achieved by a rivet 69 passing through the tongue 53 and the vertical flange of the arm .55 .. The arms 2.2 extend posteriorly to the uprights 1-2 by a reduced distance, and their ends pos-

teriors are connected by a transverse angle 57.
This angle bar 57
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and the angularly straightened part 52-A of the plate 52 are connected by threaded rods 58. Each rod 58 has a lower eyelet through which it is pivotally fixed to the wire angle by means of a rivet 59, passing through tabs 60 welded to the angle bar 57.
The upper end of the threaded rods 58 passes through a hole provided in the straightened part 52-A of the plate 52, and carries a wing nut 61, as well as a semi-spherical washer 62, pressing on the portion 52- A from plate 52.
By this arrangement, the arms 55 can pivot in the vertical plane by adjusting the wing nuts 61.
As shown in fig. 10, the arms are towards their inner ends curved downwards and their lower ends are mutually connected by a transverse angle 63. When using the clamping device, the arms are arranged in the window opening and in tightening the wing nuts 61, the arms pivot until their lower ends and / or the angle 63 come to rest on the lightening of the window opening or on the outer wall directly adjacent to this opening.
In figs 7 and 9, the axis of the horizontal element 13 of the support merges with the mixed lines, resp. VIII-VIII and X - X.
The sophisticated support is made of steel and experience has shown its considerable advantages from the point of view of safety, efficiency and ease of assembly and installation. The stand is portable when it is completely or partially dismantled.
In a suitable embodiment, the horizontal member is approximately 2.75 M in length, the posts approximately 2.45 M, and the connecting bracket approximately 2.35 M, the weight of this assembly being. approximately 106 Kg.
It is obvious that these dimensions can vary, according to the envisaged application case.
It will be noted that by means of the improved support according to the present invention, the scaffolding can very easily and in complete safety be erected from inside the building, the need to mount a structure resting on the ground therefore being systematically excluded.
Finally, the improved support, object of the present invention can very easily be dismantled and transported; is very simple and extremely adjustable, resulting in easy and economical manufacture and eminently easy to use.
