"CLEF A ECROUS A MACHOIRE COULISSANTE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"SLIDING JAW NUT WRENCH
The present invention relates to a key with jaw nuts sliding along a guide forming the handle of the key and carrying a fixed jaw.
The main patent relates to a key of this kind in which the sliding jaw carries a pivot for a lever which is arranged on the side of this jaw opposite to that where the fixed jaw is located, the said lever being pivoted relative to a pivoted link on the other hand at an adjustable position point with respect to the aforesaid fixed guide and located further from the fixed jaw than the pivot of articulation of the link to the lever.
The aim of the present patent is in particular to bring out a particularity common to this key and to various'variants which will be discussed later.
-This common peculiarity which is at the basis of the realization of these different keys consists in that one of the jaws carries a pivot for a lever which is connected by a rod to a pivot of adjustable position with respect to the another jaw, said link being inclined with respect to the handle so that when it is brought closer to the latter at the same time as the aforesaid lever, it brings the sliding jaw closer to the fixed jaw.
In a new variant, the sliding jaw carries the pivot for the aforesaid lever which is located on the side of the fixed jaw opposite to that where the sliding jaw is located and the aforesaid adjustable position pivot is carried by the handle and is located closer to the fixed jaw than the link pivot to the lever.
This variant has the advantage of being more economical to produce than that which is the subject of the main patent and of giving rise to the same displacement of the sliding jaw for a smaller angle of the operating lever associated with a rod having the same length as in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the first achievement.
According to another variant, the fixed jaw carries the pivot for the aforesaid lever which is located on the side of this fixed jaw opposite to that where it is located, the sliding jaw and the aforesaid adjustable position pivot is carried by the sliding jaw and is located farther from the fixed jaw than the lever link pivot pivot.
According to yet another variant, the fixed jaw carries the pivot for the aforesaid lever which is located on the side of the sliding jaw opposite to that on which the fixed jaw is located and the aforesaid adjustable position pivot is carried by the jaw. sliding and is located closer to the fixed jaw than the link pivot to the lever.
The present invention also has as an object a key with jaw nuts sliding along a guide forming the handle of the key and carrying a fixed jaw, in which one of the jaws carries a pivot for a lever which can be brought closer to the handle in exerting a reaction on a part of adjustable position parallel to the aforesaid guide, along the handle of a part integral with the other jaw, said part being able to be immobilized in different positions by the engagement of a toothing which it has, in a corresponding toothing of said part.
According to the invention, the two teeth are kept in engagement by an eccentric carried by the aforesaid part and bearing against the part along which it can be moved.
By using an eccentric of this kind, the aforesaid part can be quickly blocked and released with respect to the handle.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which schematically represent, and by way of example only, four embodiments of the nut wrench according to invention.
Figure 1 shows in elevation, after partial section, an embodiment of the nut wrench according to the invention.
FIG. 2 represents, in a manner similar to FIG. 1, part of a further embodiment of the key according to the invention.
Figures 3 and 4 are diagrams of two other embodiments of the nut wrench according to the invention.
In these different figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
In Figure 1, there is shown a nut wrench comprising a fixed jaw 2 integral with the handle 3. A part of the latter serves as a guide for a sliding jaw 4. The latter carries a pivot 5 for a lever 6 which is connected by a pivot 7 to a rod 8. The latter pivots around a pivot 9 carried by a part 10 which can occupy different positions along the handle 3. The movement of the part 10 along the handle 3 can be caused by the rotation of a nut 33 on a threaded portion 38 of this handle.
The rod 8 is inclined with respect to the handle so that @ when it is brought closer to the latter at the same time as the lever 6, it brings the sliding jaw 4 of the fixed jaw 2 closer. The phantom lines in the figure 1 show the main elements of the key in the position they occupy when the two jaws are brought together as much as possible, for the given position of the part 10-shown.
As can be seen in the drawing, the lever 6 is located on the side of the fixed jaw 2 opposite to that where the sliding jaw 4 is located and, moreover, the pivot 9 is carried by the handle and is located closer to the fixed jaw 2 than the pivot 7.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
With a key of this kind, the part of the lever 6 between the pivots 5 and 7 is subjected to traction during the tightening of a nut, while in the key according to the main patent, this same part is subjected to compression.
With the relative position of the pivot 9 with respect to the pivots' 5 and 7 which has just been defined, for the same length of connecting rod 8, the angle of movement of the lever 6 necessary to cause the loosening of a given nut is less than with the key of the main patent for which the pivot 9 is further from the pivot 5 than the pivot 7.
A spring 15 fixed, on the one hand, to an arm 16 integral with the lever 6 and, on the other hand, 'at a fixed point' with respect to the handle 3 urges this lever to move away from the handle.
In Figure 2, there is shown a variant of the key according to the invention in which the part 10 can occupy different equidistant positions along the handle 3 serving as a guide for the sliding jaw 4.
This heel has a set of teeth 11 engaged in a set of teeth 12 of the handle. The two teeth are held in engagement by means of an eccentric 39 pressing against the face 14 of the handle opposite to that where the teeth 12 is provided.
The eccentric shaft 40 is mounted in the part 10. A lever 41 wedged on this shaft can be used to maneuver it.
An eccentric of this kind obviously gives the same advantages as that pointed out above when it is used with a key according to the main patent.
In Figure 3, there is shown another key according to the invention in which the fixed jaw 2 carries the pivot 5 for the lever 6. The latter is located on the side of this jaw opposite to that where the sliding jaw is located. 4. The adjustable position pivot 9 is carried by the sliding jaw 4. It is located farther from the fixed jaw 2 than the pivot 7 by which the link 8 is articulated to the lever 6. By bringing the lever closer. 6 of the handle 3, the pivot 9 is forced to move away from the pivot carried by the fixed jaw, and, consequently, the jaw 4 moves closer to the jaw 2.
In the variant shown in FIG. 4, the fixed jaw 2 carries the pivot 5 for the lever 6. This is located on the side of the sliding jaw 4 opposite to that where the fixed jaw 2 is located. The pivot 9 of adjustable position is carried by the sliding jaw 4 and is located closer to the fixed jaw 2 than the pivot 7 by which the link 8 is hinged to the lever. By bringing the lever 6 closer to the handle 3, the pivot 9 is forced to move closer to the pivot 5 and, therefore, the jaw 4 moves closer to the jaw 2.
It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiments represented and that many modifications can be made in the form, the arrangement and the constitution of some of the elements involved in its realization, provided that these modifications not contradict the purpose of each of the following claims.
