" TRETEAU A REMONTE

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"LIFTING TRETEAU
The object of the present patent is a trestle with ascent intended to be used during the construction of walls or any other similar constructions in all kinds of materials to allow the establishment of work and service bridges used by the personnel, and from the floor where the materials used in the construction are distributed, which floor being at a height such that the materials accumulated on the floor are within reach of the working personnel.
In the lift trestle envisaged, this essentially comprises two columns with a support base, connected to / can their upper end, by a cross member on which / to rest. For example, a lifting device provided at each end of a lifting chain attached to the corresponding ends of the lower part of a movable frame forming the body properly
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
known as the trestle guided and retained by and in the planned columns, the upper cross member of the frame being provided with an automatic stop device, controllable by hand and forming the support of one end of the work floor the other end of which rests on the similar support of another similar trestle,
while the lower cross member of the same frame has two guided parts on which can slide and be retained against any transverse movement by means of pins, a cross member of desired length and therefore removable, the parts of which protruding outwardly from the uprights form the supports of the ends of the external working or service walkways, the other ends of which rest on the similar supports of the similar trestle mentioned above, concerning the working floor.
Any other lifting system can obviously be applied.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, one embodiment of a climbing trestle executed in accordance with the present patent.
To this end, FIG. I represents the trestle seen from the front in elevation, and FIG. 2 seen from the side.
FIG. 3 is a front elevational view of the upper cross member of the movable body of the trestle with its automatic stop device and the control of the latter.
Fig. 4 shows a partial sectional elevation along A-B, fig.3.
Fig. 5 shows on a larger scale a sectional elevation along C-D, fig. 3.
Fig. 6 shows on a larger scale a partial elevational view of one end of the upper cross member of the trestle along E-F, fig.5. Figs 9,10.11,12,13 relate to the application of another lifting system.

of the trestle, joined at their lower part to a cross member 20 resting on the ground, and to pushers 19 forming with said cross member 20 and the uprights 1 a rigid support base for the uprights 1 envisaged. At their upper part, the uprights 1 are joined by a spacer 37 on the ends of which are mounted, on one side a hoist 12 controlled for example by hand by a chain 13 with a lifting chain II and the other side, another lifting chain II driven by a pulley integral with a transmission shaft 14 moved in a rotational direction by the hoist 12 so that the two chains II move at the same time and in the same meaning.
The chains II are attached at 10 to the outer parts of the gussets 7 to which are fixed the profiles 4,5,6 which together with the upper cross member 3 form a rigid frame 2 constituting the movable body of the trestle. On the upper cross member 3 rests one end of the service floor 15, the other end of which rests on a similar climbing trestle installed later, just like the envisaged trestle, perpendicular to the construction to be built, such as for example the wall 18 see fig.I.
On, the ends of the cross member 3 guided between the uprights l, see fig. 4, are fixed by bolts 35 of the U-shaped retaining pieces 34, the wings 36 of which are arranged on the outside facing the uprights 1. These retaining pieces 34 are also intended to prevent buckling of the uprights 1. when pushing into the bottom of the notches 21 of the ends of the pawls 22 through which is transmitted the own weight of the movable body 2 and that of the gateways I5, I6, I7 with their respective load.
In this way, the crossmember 3 and the whole of the frame 2 of which it forms part cannot undergo any transverse displacement but can simply slide in the vertical direction.
On the web of the cross member 3 are articulated in 29 of the connecting rods
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
slats 28 on the other hand articulated at 30 to a bar or rod 27, which is thus disposed in parallel in the vertical plane of the web of the cross member 3, which is provided at 31 with a maneuvering handle that can be operated by hand of one of the floors 16 or 17. At the ends of this bar 27, see fig. 5 and 6, the ends of leaf spring 25 are fixed at 26, the other ends of which make contact with the inner faces of pawls 22 articulated by their journals 23 including the perforations of plates 24 welded to the right angles of the cross member 3 of T-section.
In the position shown in solid lines, the springs 25 push the pawls 22 outwards and force the ends of these to remain engaged in the notches 21 facing each other, formed on the edges or ridges facing the uprights. 1 forming the columns At the end of a chain 32 is fixed a pin 33 intended to engage in the bar or rod 27 and resting on the inner edge of the profile 4 of the frame 2 in order to constitute a safety device of the automatic shutdown device.
It is easily understood that if the pin 33 is removed and that by an action of the hand on the handle 31, the bar or rod 27 is made to occupy the position in dotted lines shown in FIGS. 3 and 5, that the springs 25, descending downwards with the bar 27, allow the pawls 22 to be able to follow this movement and consequently to leave the enooches 21 on the bottom of which rested the entire mobile part 2 as soon as a slight movement of The rise is initiated by the operation of the hoist 12 by the control chain 13, and thus, as long as this position of the bar 27 is maintained, the movable part 2 can slide freely but if during the descent it is replaced as shown in full lines,
the pawls 22 will come into operation and automatically stop the movable part 2 at the chosen level of the groups of notches 21 distributed at equal distances, see fig. 2, on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
uprights 1 forming the columns,
The lower part of the movable body 2, see fig.7 and 8 comprises on each side a gusset 7 for assembling the profiles 4,6,5, extending between and outwardly to the profiles 1 forming the columns. At 10 is shown the attachment of the lifting chains II, see fig. 7.
Guide pieces 8 are fixed to the lower part of each gusset 7, the inner faces of the projections of which are grooved so as to serve as a support and guide for the wings of a T-shaped cross member 9 which is slid over these pieces 8. This cross member 9 is removable and of the desired length and its ends protrude outwardly cantilevered from the columns of the trestle so as to constitute the supports for the work 17 and service catwalks 16. The transverse movement of the cross member 9 between the columns is prevented. by engaging a pin at 38.
In view of the above, the operation is easily understood as follows.
Two ascent trestles, as shown in fig. I, 2,3,5 6 being installed, if the personnel on the walkway 17 wishes to reassemble the walkways 16 and 17 and the floor 15, they exert traction on the chain 13 to maneuver the hoist 12 and the movable body 2 moves upwards by the traction of the chains II and the pawls 22 leave the notches 21 and slide upwards on the edges facing the profiles 1 while being held by the springs 25.
The movable body 2 arrives a little above the level of the group of notches 21 which must serve as a new support, the operator lets the movable body 2 go down which then automatically comes to rest at the chosen level of the endings 2I because, during the descent, the ends of the pawls 22 still biased by the springs 25 have come up against the bottom of the notches-2I and thus, the new level of tra-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
vail is established.
When it is desired to descend for example to the ground, without making use of the automatic stop device, the operation of which has been described above, the operator removes the pin 33, then grasping the handle 31 brings by a downward movement, the bar or rod 27, to take the position in dotted lines, see fig. 3 and 5, and thus / inoperative the automatic stop device.
Thus, depending on the need for the service, the automatic shut-off device will be put into action without placing or removing the safety pin 33.
A hand operated hoist 12 has been shown, but it goes without saying that an electrically operated hoist can be substituted for it with suitable operating equipment, or as shown by way of example in FIGS. 9, IO, II, I2, I3, another lifting device.
To this end, FIG. 9 shows an elevational view of a lifting device of which fig.10 shows a plan view and applied to the side of a column.
Fig.II shows an elevation view on a larger scale of the device supposed to be seen between the two uprights forming a column and along G-H, fig.IO.
Fig.13 shows in elevation on a larger scale a view of the mechanism of the lifting device shown in Fig.9.
Fig. 13 schematically represents the positions taken by the mechanism during the raising and lowering operations of the frame or mobile part 2.
Referring to figs. 9,10.11,12,13. between the uprights 1 forming the columns is arranged a shaft 38 held in bearings 43 fixed to the uprights 4 of the frame 2 or moving part. The ends of the shaft 38 terminate in square bearing surfaces 41 on which the perforators are engaged.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
corresponding rations 42 of plates 44 arranged outside the core of the profiles 1 forming the uprights of the column.
In the perforations 47 respectively 48 of the plates 44 are articulated the ends 49 of the brackets 45 respectively
46, the horizontal - upper edges of which have, on their inner lateral face, studs 60, to which the ends of springs 58 respectively 59 are fixed. The spring
58 @@@@ at its other end engaged on the stud 56 and the end of the spring 59 on the stud 57 of a part 55 articulated on a shaft 62 forming a spacer at the upper ends 54 of a twin part 50 of which the lower ends 52 are articulated on an axis 51 connecting two plates 44.
At 53 is shown a perforation of the part 50 allowing the insertion of a pin into a corresponding perforation of the plates 44 in order to allow the twin part 50 to be wedged and thus to make it fixed with respect to the plates 44.
The notches in the uprights 1 are represented by 61.
Externally to one of the columns is engaged on the square end 41 of the shaft 38 the corresponding perforation of a plate 40 forming the head of an operating lever 39.
The operation of the lifting device envisaged above is understood as follows:
The solid line diagram of fig.I3 shows the position of the mechanism at the start of the winding movement, and at this time the pin (s) is or are withdrawn from 53 making the paired lever 50 of the plates 44,. articulated at 51. During the raising maneuver of the movable part 2, the lever 39 being in the position shown in fig. 9,10.11,13 if the lever 39 is raised upwards, for example from the pass-tel 17, the movable part 2 of the trestle which is supported by the shaft 38 a, by means of the device envisaged, as a fulcrum the brackets 45 which seven engaged in the notches of the same side of the columns.

The calipers 45 and 46 basically act as a ratchet. It should be noted that in this maneuver the parts 50 were separated from the plates 44, by the removal at 53 of pins,

Now, if the lever 59 is lowered, the mechanism in position I, see fig. I3, assumes position II shown in phantom and in which the springs 58 are tensioned and exert a traction on their corresponding bracket 45
The other springs 59 are thus compressed and push their corresponding stirrup 46 towards one of the notches 61 of the upright side I / of the columns. Immediately engaged in these, if we continue to lower lever 39, the left callipers

on the other side of the uprights 1 / of the columns when the lever 39 is horizontal because at this time, the springs 58 acting in compression and the descent can continue in this way to the desired location.
It goes without saying that the springs 58 and 59 must be arranged in a suitable setting. It should be noted that if the twin part 50 was not made dependent on the plates.
44 by the engagement of the pins at 53, the parts 50 would always be held approximately vertically, the springs
58 and 59 then acting in compression, see position I, fig.I3, the brackets 45 and 46 being kept opposite.
The planned ascent trestle can be built in all dimensions in relation to its destination.
