<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Quick clamping device for silky cycles and the like.
Hubs for cycles and the like need to be able to be removed and reassembled very easily and very quickly by a device which can be operated by hand.
Known models of tightening nuts or butterflies can be replaced by a device that can be operated with one hand. The device that is the subject of the present patent meets this need.
In the accompanying drawing showing by way of nonlimiting example two embodiments of the invention:
Figure I shows an overall sectional view of a hub clamped between the dropouts of a cycle frame
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
using the clamping device ssEbn a first embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 shows an overall view in section of the clamping device according to a second embodiment of the invention.
This clamping device is thus produced: the hub of a known type 1 (FIG. I) is provided with a shaft 2 entirely drilled and traversed by a pin
At one end, cet.broche is blocked in a base 4 which it thus becomes integral with after assembly.
This base carries a breakout 5 which is applied to the frame lug 6. At its other end, the spindle 3 has a threaded part 7 onto which is screwed a toe nut fitted (or not) with a breakout 19. In the embodiment in FIG. I, this open-out is a cup rotated freely on the nut 8 so as to soften the tightening force.
The base 4 is provided with a lug 9 engaging in a corresponding groove of the end of the axis
2, which allows the lateral displacement of the base 4 but not its rotation. It goes without saying that any other type of lug or known method preventing the rotation of the base 4 relative to the tab 6 can be used.
The spindle 3 being integral with the base 4, cannot also rotate. Any rotational movement of the nut
8 will therefore lead to screwing or unscrewing on the threaded part and will cause the clamping or spacing of the spreaders 5 and 19 between the lugs 6 and 10. the hub axis carrying the cones II and 12 and the washers? 13 and @ 14 (ridged or open to increase grip),
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is therefore strongly tightened, but has no effect on the adjustment of the cones and the actual bearings of the hub.
As a variant (FIG. 2), the clamping device is made faster by increasing the thread pitch of the spindle. As it is easier to achieve a rapid step on a larger diameter, the spindle 3- is simply provided with a stop-forming head, and the rapid step is formed in the thickness of the butterfly 8, the single or multiple ramp taking support on a symmetrical counter-ram of a bowl 16. The bowl 16 can move laterally but not rotate, due to the presence of a lug 9 engaging in a groove of the axis
In order to allow easier reassembly when the butterfly is loosened, small springs such as 17 are provided to keep the bases away from the hub and allow the lugs 6 and 10 to be more easily engaged during reassembly.
The device that is the subject of the present patent therefore makes it possible to use a spindle of reduced diameter, compatible with the standards of cycle hubs for example, while allowing the use of clamping with the thread diameters as large as possible. necessary.
For existing hubs, it is easy to convert them by replacing the ordinary axle with a hollow axle of suitable length, through which passes the clamping device, the subject of the present patent.
The wing nut 8 can be of suitable shape, with a single or multiple wing.
