<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Combined ring and clamp".
It is known to carry out the connection of cables to the terminals, for example, of lead accumulators, by means of the combination of a ring or flange and of a wire clamp provided with two clamping members, which are arranged to be tightened on each side on the terminal, by means of a pivoting actuating arm, so that the cable can be easily and quickly fixed to the terminal and detached from it, and this without danger that the connection members adhere or break, as is often the case with the usual screw connections.
The present invention relates to combined collars and clamps of the type in question and aims to provide a simplification of construction compared to previously known constructions.
The invention mainly consists in that the pivot actuating arm itself forms a ring which has at its outer end the connection part for the cable. This avoids the use of a separate actuating arm in addition to the ring, which results in a considerable saving in material, and, at the same time, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
easy handling, given that the ring, together with the cable, has a good grip for the hand, due to the fact that it is natural to grip the cable and the ring with one hand, when you fixes or loosens the clamp.
Other characteristics of the invention will become apparent from the following description, given with reference to the drawings which illustrate an advantageous embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a partially sectioned plan view of the device in the clamped position.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the device in the clamping position / and
Figure 3 is a side elevation, viewed from the opposite side of Figure 2, of a clamp in the released position, and partially broken away.
The device shown consists of the actuating arm 1, an intermediate piece 2 and a clamping member 3 having a pin 4. The members 2 and 3 are practically U-shaped, their middle parts are formed of a conical contact surface 5 and 6 respectively, corresponding to the shape of the operating terminal 7 and which can be moved on either side against this terminal, the intermediate piece 2 fitting between the lateral tabs 8 of the member 3 and being further guided by a projection 9 on each side in oblong holes 10 provided in the clamping member 3.
The arm 1 is journaled on the pivot 4 between the side legs 11 of the intermediate piece 2, which pivot spans the space between the side legs 8 of the member 3, and is screwed at its end into one of the arms. these. The arm 1 forms a lever with two arms, the long arm of which projects outwardly and has at its outer end a bore 12, in which the cable 13 is fixed, for example, by welding. The short arm of the lever advances inwardly from the Pivot 4, and has a camming surface 14, which cooperates with a cooresponding surface of the intermediate piece 2, when the operating lever is turned down, of the position of FIG. 3 towards the position of FIG. 2, so
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
pressing the intermediate piece inwards against terminal 7.
Around the pivot 4, the actuating arm 1 has on each side a cylindrical projection 15 arranged in an opening 16 made in each side tab 11 of the intermediate part 2.
These projections 15 are placed, in a known manner, eccentrically with respect to the pivot 4, so that, when the operating lever is turned upwards, from the position of FIG. 2 towards the position of FIG. 3, they engage with the edge of the respective openings 16, on the outer side; and thus force the part 2 outwards relative to the clamping member 3.
One of the tabs 8 of the clamping member 3 has an extension 17 / in cross section so as to be able to give elastically in the lateral direction, and having at the top of its free end, a tab 18 which grips the actuating arm 1 in its lowest position.
When the strain relief is to be fitted, it is slid over terminal 7 while the actuating arm 1 is held at an angle slightly less than 90 to the horizontal plane, roughly as shown in fig. 3. The arm 1 is then turned downwards, movement by which its cam face 9 forces the intermediate piece inwards with respect to the clamping member 3, so that the wire clamp clamps on the terminal with a sufficient contact. During this movement, the extension 17 tilts elastically so as to grip the upper side of the arm 1 with the tongue 18, when the arm has been fully pivoted downwards.
When the connection has to be loosened, the arm 1 is again pivoted upwards, and by this movement the eccentric protrusions 15 separate the members 2 and 3, so that they are detached from the terminal 7 and that the clamp can be easily removed.
