Sur la fig.2, les deux coquilles constitutives de la matrice sont indiquées en 5. Elles comportent, sur leur plan de raccordement, des cavités ou empreintes 7 et 8 dont on voit la forme générale sur la fig. 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Buckle and its manufacturing process.
The present invention relates to buckles and similar articles of the type comprising a ring-shaped body and a barb or equivalent coupling member, movably mounted on said ring-shaped body.
The invention relates more particularly to a loop, the constituent elements of which are shell-cast on top of each other and permanently connected, while being able to pivot freely on one another.
The invention also relates to the process for manufacturing loops or similar articles defined above:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the attached drawing, given only by way of example:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of one of the shells of the die used for the manufacture of a loop according to the invention:
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1 and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a completed buckle attached to a belt.
In fig.2, the two constituent shells of the matrix are indicated at 5. They comprise, on their connection plane, cavities or indentations 7 and 8, the general shape of which can be seen in FIG. 1;
The cavity 7 is intended for molding the barb 9 and the cavity 8 for molding the buckle body or ring 10, this barb and this buckle body being an integral part of one another, given that the cavities 7 and 8 are connected by a common pouring duct 11 into which the molten material is injected by means of a nozzle 12.
The shells 5 of the die also include a cavity or recess 13, intended to receive part of the barb 9 of a pre-molded element, when the latter has been lowered, by means of a rod 14 forming a core, which passes through the eye 15 of the barb and the inner end of which penetrates slightly into the aforementioned pouring duct 11, near the cavity 8 serving to form the loop body 10. In a simplified embodiment of the invention, the rod or core 14 forms, during molding or casting, the hole or eye 15 of the barb 9. In the example shown, a pad 16 is mounted on the rod 14 and it is on this pad that the eye 15 of said barb will be cast.
If the barb is metal, the pad may
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
be of a suitable harder metal, or fibrous material; while if the barb is plastic, the pad can be metal, fiber, or other suitable plastic material. In other words, the pad will be made of a material contrasting with that constituting the barb.
The loop body 10 comprises, in the embodiment shown, a rectilinear part or cross member 17 comprising, on both sides. on the other side of the eye 15, an annular collar or bead 18, these beads being intended to hold the barb in place in the central part of said cross member 17.
Referring to fig. 1, it can be seen that the die shells are notched at 19, so as to leave the weight 11 'exposed when a preformed assembly. is placed in its lowered position in the die. When this assembly is again released from the die, its barb and the loop body of the adjacent assembly to which it is connected by the weight 11 'can be separated by trimming, a complete loop thus being formed, with its barb 9, secured to the cross member 17 and able to pivot or rotate freely on it between the two beads 18.
Note that each complete loop is formed with the barb of one cast assembly and the buckle body of the next assembly. By operating in this way, the part 20 of the cross member 17 included between the annular beads 18 contracts sufficiently inside the bearings 16, to leave a certain clearance between its periphery and the eye of the rod 9. It will be noted also that during the successive molding or casting operations, the rod 14 forming the core is withdrawn from the cast assembly when the latter is brought into its lowered position and the shells are in the partially closed position. When the rod 14 is returned to its normal position, the shells are again closed and the seed

next ble is formed, and so on.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the details of execution described above, which have been given only by way of example. The very simple, and more or less conventional type of loop, shown in the appended drawing, is obviously given only by way of non-limiting example. It goes without saying that loops or similar articles comprising several movable or pivoting parts with respect to one another can be obtained by the method described above. An ordinary belt 21, shown in phantom in Fig. 3, can be used in combination with the buckles made according to the present invention.
