improvements to the carriages with clamping elements for drawing benches, the present invention relates to the carriages used on drawing benches for drawing tubes or other workpieces through dies, the carriages being of kind with clamping elements in the form of a pair of sliding jaws adapted to grip between them the anterior end of the workpiece or a traction pin attached to this workpiece.
The object of the invention is to provide improved means for automatically closing the jaws.
The invention comprises in combination a lever adapted to engage the jaws, a sliding bar for the operation of the lever, and means for temporarily holding the bar during the initial part of the movement of the carriage separate from the die.
In the accompanying drawings, given by way of example:

at their lower ends by a cross member which engages the grooves j in the jaws c.
In order to allow the lever 1 to be raised, or lowered out of engagement, or into engagement with the jaws c, when it is desired to change the jaws, the lever is carried by a transverse rod k which passes through notches m formed in the lateral elements of the lever and which issupportée at its ends, so as to be able to turn, by n bearings provided on the carriage a. the part of the rod k which passes through the notches m formed in the lateral elements of the lever 1 has a rectangular section such that it is incapable of a rotational movement with respect to the lever. Likewise, the part of the rod k located between the lateral elements of the lever .1 is formed or provided with a pinion or toothed segment o.
The longitudinal movement of the lever i with respect to the rod k to effect the engagement of the lever with, or disengagement of the lever from the jaws c, is effected by screws p inserted through the upper ends of the lateral elements of the lever and engaging threaded holes in the rod.
One or each of the screws p is provided with an operating handle q and is connected to the other by means of a chain and wheel mechanism r, so that a rotation of the handle or each fist simultaneously rotates the two screws. alternatively, the screws can be connected to each other by worm gear and worm.
In bearings s of the charoit a is supported so as to be able to slide a horizontal bar t arranged longitudinally, on which is formed a rack u engaging the pinion or segment o on the transverse rod k. This bar t is surrounded at the remote end

In order to allow leséachoires jg to be actuated alternately by hand, a hand lever 4 is provided on one of the ends of the rod k which carries the lever i.
By the present invention, the jaws can be actuated in a very satisfactory and proper manner, and at the same time these jaws can be changed rapidly.
