Un premier de ces dispositifs connus se compose de deux parties, chacune fixée à une extrémité du collier et comportant, l'une, un pas de vis, l'autre, le filetage correspondant. Pour fermer le collier, il est souvent malaisé de visser une pièce dans l'autre du fait de la petite taille du fermoir. Un autre de ces dispositifs comporte une forme torique et se compose de deux parties circulaires. La première partie pleine coulisse dans la deuxième partie creuse. Un ressort logé dans la partie creuse repousse systématiquement la partie pleine en position fermée. Une minuscule poignée est agencée sur la partie pleine. Dès que l'on agit à l'encontre de la force du ressort, on fait coulisser cette partie pleine dans la partie creuse et on libère une ouverture qui permet d'enfiler les extrémités du collier. Puis, on relâche la poignée et les extrémités sont ainsi liées, le fermoir agissant à la manière d'un maillon d'une chaîne.
