<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

annexed represent by way of explanation and not limitation an embodiment of a machine for straightening and grinding flat surfaces comprising the new features pointed out in the discussion of this presentation,
To this end, fig.I, shows a section in elevation in the upper part of the machine,
the lower part forming the frame housing the electric motor being shown in view,
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the table, the inner plate and the arm.
Fig.3 shows a sectional elevation along C-D, fig. 2
Fig, 4 shows a section in longitudinal direction along A-B, fig.1,
Referring to the figures above, 1 represents the frame of the machine, 2 the upper central part of the frame forming the base of the table 3 of the machine.
In 4 is shown the oentral inner plate of the machine supported by the arm 5, forming a rule, by means of the screws 6, In the ends of the arm 5, see fig.2 and. 3, are housed the internal screws 7 forming stops on the table 3 and the external screws 8 used for fixing to the table ¯3 of the arm 5 o therefore the central plate 4, At its center the latter is supported by means of an extensible ring 9 on the upper end of the support shaft 10 by means of an oonic head screw II engaged by threading in the support shaft 10,
On the other hand, the outer part of the arm 5 is fixed to the table by means of a locking handle 12 comprising a rod 13 engaged by its end in the table and passing through an internally threaded sleeve 14 into which the screw 15 penetrates. externally fitted with a graduated operating head 16,
The support shaft 10 rests by means of a ball bearing 17 on a cross member 18 engaged in the slot 19 of the drive shaft 20, the lower end of which is fitted

grooves 44 and engaged on the end of the correspondingly arranged shaft of the electric motor 21, 22 of which represents the starting device,
Cross member 18 rests by means of a washer
23 for example copper or fiber or other suitable on a ring 24 provided for example with three arms 25 engaged in the longitudinal slots 26 ----- a central bush or roller cage 27 and whose ends are housed in the notches 28 of a worm wheel 29 driven by the screw 30 moved from the outside by the handwheel 31. The central bush 27 is provided externally with a screw thread 32 on which is engaged a worm wheel 33 forming nut driven by the screw 34 controlled, from the outside by a handwheel as in the case of fig. 4 for the handwheel 31.
The central bush 27 is engaged by external thread 35 in the correspondingly threaded bore of a ring 36 inserted in and fixed in a corresponding bore of the central part 2 of the frame, of the machine.
37 and 38 show the lines for lubricating the upper and lower bearings of the drive shaft 20.
On the hollow shaft 20-is wedged a plate 39 provided at its lower face with blades 40. which will be discussed below, and a rim45. On this plate 39 is fixed by means of a crown of screws such as 41, the plate proper 'of the grinding wheel. 43.
The operation of such a machine is easy to understand and only the adjustment means peculiar to the invention deserve the explanations below.
Regarding the adjustment of the arm supporting the inner central plate, consequently of the latter, in relation to the machine table to fix the thickness or the height of the pass to be taken on the workpiece, it is includes as follows:
In the middle of the grinding wheel 43 being the plate 4 fixed on the arm 5, this one is horizontal and can go up parallel
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
himself. The setting is as follows:
the arm 5 is loosened by a screw handle 12 which is located on the rear part and by the knurled and graduated handwheel 16, by screwing it or unscrewing it the sleeve 14 forming the nut, by its rod 15 the adjustment is made, once this finished or re-lock the arm 5 in its final position with the handle. If you use the stops 7, you must first unlock the arm 5 by unscrewing the external bolts 8. By completely removing the screw handle 12. -can grab arm 5 and remove it if necessary with the inner central plate ± the via $. being removed.
In order to erect pieces of a certain thickness, and to avoid bending of the plate 4. we must use the stops 7 which relate the height of the plate 4., the two external bolts 8 blocking the plate 4.,
The function of the plate 4 is to receive the part to be machined as it advances, and to prevent it from tipping inside the grinding wheel. From this the machined part always remains perfectly flat.
If we have to take a pass for example of 5/10 it is therefore necessary to make the table 3, the grinding wheel 43 and the inner plate 4 protrude by this quantity and gradually compensate for the wear of the grinding wheel, Preferably the plate 4 is provided with the machine with a central support 10. In this way, even when lifting heavy parts, the plate 4 does not flex under their weight and allows machining always very precise and very flat.
To change the grinding wheel, proceed as follows:
The screw handle 12 is unscrewed and removed on the rear part of the arm 5, the latter is removed as described above with the plate 4 after having previously removed the tracks 8 of the arm 5 ------- - ---- and we unscrew the bolts 41 fixing the grinding wheel 43 on its plate support 39.
To adjust the grinding wheel 43, after having replaced it or in order to compensate for wear or to machine a part under other conditions, the wheel will be released by unblocking.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
, screw 33 forming a nut by turning the outer handwheel controlling the screw 34, the outer handwheel 31 will then be turned to move the wheel, via the screw 30, via 39. in the desired rotational direction to drive correspondingly via the three-arm ring 24 25 the sleeve or bearing cage 26 which consequently will be screwed or unscrewed at 35 and at the same time, the drive shaft 20 will rise or fall by the desired value.
Once the adjustment has been made, the wheel 29 will be blocked by the rotation of the wheel 33 to 32 on the socket 26 by its external control wheel.
It can be seen that all the adjustment maneuvers of the grinding wheel 43 can be stepped from the outside by the handwheels controlling the screw wheels 33 respectively 29.
It goes without saying that other details or variants of execution can be 'envisaged without departing from the scope of the scope of the present patent, which can be characterized by the following, CLAIMS 1). flat surfaces, characterized in that the inner central plate is supported on the one hand, at its periphery by the rule of the table, fixed in an adjustable manner with respect to the latter, on the other hand by its central part and also in an adjustable manner, by a fixed shaft ooaxial to the hollow wheel drive shaft and housed. in this last.
